Q: Approximately How long do you have to crank to get a full charge without plugging it into an outlet, or using the sun?

A: Hi! Happy to help! It can take up to 16 hours to fully charge the battery using only the hand crank. The purpose of the crank is not to fully charge the product, but to get enough charge in the battery to run the radio for weather announcements or charge a phone enough to make a call.

Q: What is the point of a Bluetooth hand crank device that does not have a USB port to charge your phone so that you can actually use Bluetooth from your phone when the power is out?

A: Hi! Happy to help! The ION Survival Scout does feature a USB port for charging. This is located under a rubber panel above the master volume control on the right.

Q: Is this waterproof & what is the crank for? Also are these items available for purchase during quarantine?

A: Hi, I'll be glad to assist! The Ion Audio Survival Scout is IPX4 water-resistant. The hand crank allows the speaker's battery to be charged by hand when connection to an outlet is not available.

Q: What frequency range does the radio portion receive?

A: Hi! Happy to help! The ION Survival Scout has AM, FM, Shortwave and Weather band radio options.

Q: Does this speaker come with a cord for charging? Is solar and cranking the only methods to charge it? If there is a cord, how long does it take to charge by being plugged in?

A: It comes with a charger that has an attached cable that plugs into the back. Note, this unit uses a lead-acid battery -- not Lithium-ion -- so it is best to leave it on the charger when not in use. Most importantly, my unit came with a worn-out battery (probably sitting around too long in the box, discharging) so you need to check that the battery will hold a charge (full bars on front of radio after charging) when not on the charger immediately or consider returning. I got the unit on sale and wound up replacing my battery ($30 at Amazon) so ate the charge. It will take hours to recharge the battery normally.
