Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the iTrip Auto Lightning FM Transmitter's convenient charging capabilities and ease of use. However, many express concerns regarding sound quality and the effectiveness of the FM transmitter, citing issues with signal strength, static, and reception. Some users found the device simple to operate and appreciated its charging function. Despite these positive aspects, the audio performance proved to be a significant drawback for a substantial number of customers.

Good design, poor quality. Save your receipt!

I owned an iTrip long ago and had high hopes for this product. The iTrip with lightning connector is well-designed. I liked being able to use the app on my iPhone to download a list of clear channels and change the channel setting. The sound quality is mediocre, which is endemic to all these FM transmitters. You have to find a clear station, and even then the sound is muddy and the bass is lacking. Every once in a while there is a burst of digital static. If you are driving long distance, you have to re-tune the iTrip and car radio as you move into the area of new radio stations. I could live with all of this, but what disappointed me was that the unit failed within two months of purchase. My iPhone began to occasionally report that the device was not supported when I connected it, and the radio functions wouldn't work. Sometimes it still charged the phone. Finally it stopped transmitting at all and just worked as a charger. When I contacted Griffin for warranty support, they quickly agreed to replace the unit. However, I had not saved the receipt (dummy me!), so they are giving me a one-time warranty replacement and no further support. The process for obtaining the replacement was unnecessarily complex - I had to create an account on their website (which returned a 404 error after I registered), take a photo of the product after destroying it by cutting the wires, and submit the photo (see attached image). I am grateful that Griffin is replacing the unit even though I don't have a receipt, but very disappointed in the quality, especially given the price. I see other reviewers had similar problems. If you absolutely need this product, SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!

The iTrip worked well as a charger but below average as an FM transmitter. I actually had to return the thing because it stopped working after 2 months. Best Buy did an exchange that was against policy but they did it anyway. The stations would often drop and you'd have to look up another station to tune to. The Belkin FM transmitter worked much better.

It took me a while to find a station that would last more than a block or two. Other stations would be strong enough to overpower this device. Even though I do like the fact that this device will charge your iPhone while in use, getting the audio from the lightning connecter has some issues when switching apps. Cuts out, having to unplug and plug the unit back in to get sound again.

This item is good as a starter or beginner item and charges your iPod or iPhone well and played music through your car well but one problem it has is that you have to keep changing stations to get a clear reception with your music. Once you drive awhile and have clear receptionist will stay that way.

This functions as both a phone charger and a an FM transmitter but be warned, you have to put this in a place in your car where your car can then receive the same signal without major static. I found the signal to be pretty weak and easily disturbed, therefore quality was low

The charger works without fail. However, when I plug in the the unit, it will play for about a minute, then the station will be overcome by static. To fix this all I need to do is unplug the unit (either from my phone or the outlet) and plug it back in. Another issue is that, because this model uses a wired connection to your phone, or iPod, there is increased interference, and thus, there is always a little static in the background. Most of the time it is unnoticeable but on road trips it can become a neusence. But perhaps the worst part is that when you travel into an area that is using the station that you are, you have to change your station. This can be a problem/safety concern while driving. All that being said, the upside of not having to listen to te radio play the same 5 songs over and over again, is more than enough to keep me using this product.

I love the FM transmitter I purchased at Best Buy. I have an older model truck and was looking for an inexpensive way to listen to the music on my phone. The associates recommended this product and it works well for me. Although there is a slight hissing noise when stopped, I like that it charges my phone while listening to my music. Overall, I would recommend this product.

It works for what it is intended to do, but the audio quality isn't the best. The sound does come through the speakers in the car, but often has static and needs to be re-positioned to get the best signal. There are only about 2-3 channels that actually work to pick up the sound.

A must if you have an older car without Bluetooth or an auxiliary input. It's the only way to play your music from an Apple device. Sound quality could be better but it does get the job done

It's pretty good. I thought for the price point it would be better. The plus is it charges your phone while using it. Other cheaper ones have the same sound quality but doesn't charge during use.

The quality of this product is okay for the price. I live in Pittsburgh now and it doesn't pick up the channels as easily as my Belkin did, but it was worth it for a marginally cheaper replacement.

This would be a great product if it worked. We have had other FM transmitters and they worked relatively well playing the music clearly through the car stereo. This one however doesn't hold stations very well and provides a static-filled playback. We have to keep adjusting the stations in hopes of getting a clearer signal.

I bought this product to use in my 2005 BMW that does not have an aux connection. I was difficult to find a station that would work acceptably with the transmitter, my car, and my phone. You had to hold the transmitter steady in one position in order to get it to work properly. If you can get a hardwired aux connection for the phone to the car, then I suggest you do that.

We go this fm transmitter because I was going on a trip and did not want to bother learning radio stations. The moment we plugged it in it worked but then it would start to give off static in the back round now there is always static but in the long run sometimes it is hardly audible so we kept it all in all good product.
