Great usb c multi powered port.

Other than that it works great for downloading videos and pictures quality wise it has sped up my downloading of my videos. I look forward to using it.

But, it gets VERY VERY hot I'm not sure why - I've googled the subject and it is common with this device, but nobody knows why or how to fix it It works - And, will replace it with a bigger one with more ports soon

Posted .Hello Glenn, thank you for the input you have on the JCD383. Unfortunately because electricity pass through the device while in use, it will slightly become warm and that is normal. However, if the JCD383 is becoming too hot, we definitely recommend exchanging it for safety purposes. Another really good device we recommend looking into would be the JCD381 as well.

This adapter is a great addition to a newer laptop that supports display port alternate mode over USB C. This adapter is plug and play so there are no drivers to install. It provides an array of ports that are not frequently included on newer laptops. I hope that you have a great day.

Gets the job done

I'm rating it as average because it heats up quite a bit. Maybe it's the devices I'm plugging in but the temperature is high enough that I do what I need with it & then unplug quickly.

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.We do expect that the device will get warm to moderately hot, but this is well within normal ranges. Our device has been stress tessed and we have found that the average max opeational temperature for this product is ~106 °F / 41 °C, this is also while the adapter is under a full load or is being used continuously for >~ 1hr.Please remember that ambient temperatures can also affect the unit as well as your computer. Manufacturer's recommend that computers be used where the temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C)." If you are finding that your device is exceeding the average temperature of 135 °F/57 °C, for periods > 30 minutes, it may be defective and we'd be more than happy to help with an exchange. While testing, we haven't found this product to run at anything higher than 112°F/44 °C, for periods <10 minutes.If you would like to speak to our customer service representatives, our information can be located on the back of all of our product boxes, as well as on our website on the support page. Posted .Newer computers lacking USB-A ports may have difficulty using external hard drives and more; thanks to the JCD383, you may add displays, Ethernet, SD card readers and USB ports for accessories.

Posted .Roger, I regret to hear the JCD383 caused any type of concern in regards to the hot touch. It is expected that the JCD383 USB Type-C Mini Dock will get very warm-to-moderately hot, but is certainly no need for alarm. We have stressed tested the JCD383 USB Type-C Mini Dock and have been able to determine that the average maximum operational temperature for the adapter is ~106 °F / 41 °C, while the adapter is under full-load or being used continuously for periods >~ 1hr. Please also take into consideration, the ambient temperatures will also affect the temperature that the adapter, as well as the computer, will operate at. Apple recommends that you "use your Mac notebook where the ambient temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C)." https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201640
In our testing, we have found that for Macbook Pros, the average maximum operational temperature for the adapter is ~100 °F / 37.78 °C to ~140 °F / 60.00 °C, while the computer is under full-load or being used continuously for periods >~ 1hr. The temperature that the Macbook Pro is running at, may also affect the operating temperatures of our USB Type-C multi-adapter. However, if you are noticing that the JCD383 is exceeding the average temperature of 135 °F/57 °C, for periods > 30 minutes, your product may be faulty and may be needing to be replaced.
In our testing, we have not found the JCD383/384 to run anything higher than 112°F/44 °C, for periods <10 minutes. If you would prefer to speak with a rep on this situation, please feel free to reach out to us and we'll gladly assist.

HP told me it is best to plug it into the regular type c port rather than the thunderbolt type c. Thunderbolt drivers are updated more frequently and this caused me a problem initially, because the latest driver was not installed.

Glad to hear that you got the JCD383 working with your computer. This adapter does not require any drivers itself. However it does require that you plug it into a USB-C port that supports display port alternate mode. Not all USB-C ports support this mode.
