Posted .Hey and thank you for reviewing the JCD383. I regret to hear about the experience you had. We can assure you this is normal. Due to electricity running through the hub while in use - this is considered normal. In the case where the hub is smoking or harming you due to the hot touch, we recommend contacting support on the casing and seeking an exchange under the manufacturer's two year warranty.

Posted .Laptop manufacturers are removing network ports to keep laptops as thing as possible. Wi-Fi does not always provide a good enough connection. The JCD383 will not only give you the Ethernet port, but it also has USB-A ports and an HDMI port for another display.

Good expansion options, but gets really hot!

She called me the next day telling me that it wasbgetting really hot. I made some research and it turns out that everybody's complaining about this particular product.

Overheats and somehow blocks wifi connection

It overheats often and for some reason it, at times, blocks my laptop from connecting to wifi. It's weird. I'll be connected just fine and then randomly the wifi disconnects. I thought it was my overall wifi but other devices were still working fine. The only thing that fixed it was disconnecting the J5, and re-connecting to wifi. I'm curious if anyone else experienced this. I don't recommend.

I apologize for the inconvenience that the adapter is causing. This adapter may get warm during normal operation and it will get warmer as more devices are plugged into it. The device should not get so hot as to burn when touched nor should it create an acrid odor.
Regarding the issue that you are seeing with the WIFI disconnecting; that sounds like you may be encountering radio frequency interference. USB 3.0 devices like this adapter can emit 2.4GHz wireless interference. If possible try moving the dock further away, or to a different side of the MacBook. Another solution that may work for you is that if your router supports 5GHz vs 2.4GHz, I recommend switching to that so then the adapter will not interfere with the WIFI frequency.
