If you want it to power your notebook, you'll need the optional AC adaptor to power the hub and will also need to make sure your notebook can receive a charge through your notebook's USB Type C port. Otherwise, it works like any other hub without need for the optional AC adaptor.

I've not noticed any issues with interference which has been an issue with other adapters. There was a required firmware update in order to use power passthrough, but it was easy to install.
