One of the best blockbusters of all time in HD? Worth it.

First off, this Steelbook edition looks great on your shelf, and definitely is a nice thing for those of us still antiquated enough to actually collect physical movies. Of course, the movie is great, up there with the best of Spielberg's blockbusters, and enjoying it in blu ray you can appreciate just how well the look of the movie holds up. Thanks to the blend of practical effects and early CGI, most of this movie looks better than many of the CGI-filled special effects-laden movies of the past decade. Beyond looking great, the film is as engaging as blockbusters get, one where the wonder and joy of nature and scientific discovery sit next to the danger of it all, and neither is ever able to completely banish the other.

Husband bought this movie because we did not own it.

According to director Steven Spielberg, this film was originally shot with 3D in mind, but the level of technology required was not available at the time. Now that it is, the conversion is absolutely astonishing! It is unbelievable that this level of 3D conversion can be done from a 2D source. No "cardboard cutout" look to this one! Everything has the proper depth applied. The film stands on it's own as it did in 2D but the 3D makes it so much more immersive of an experience. I highly recommend this version if this type of action film is your cup of tea.

i wasnt sure what to expect. Tins arent really a good thing for me to collect since they are round and can't stay on my movie shelf unit. but bestbuy's packaging sort of makes up for it. its basically the plastic sleeve that acts like a stand for the tins to be placed in, which will hold them up nicely on your movie shelves. but even still i wouldn't buy a tin casing again. the only reason i did was because it included an ultra violet code so that i can use it with my flixster account which i love. bestbuy, move away from the tins and just continue with steelbook bluray releases. i love those! either way, still very much love this, it was affordable and well made. the bluray/dvd each come in their own plastic sleeve inside the tin.

Here's the question: I think you all know the storyline, but is the 3D worth it? In a word: YES! Although not shot in 3D originally, the conversion is one of the BEST I have ever seen. Spielberg has an uncanny knack for depth-of-focus compositions which allow 3D to really POP! Characters stand out from their backgrounds and often foreground elements stand out from the characters - to give you a fully immersive sensation. You have never seen JURASSIC PARK like this -- and I believe you will be hard pressed to want to view it in 2D again afterwards.

What more can one ask for that the original Jurassic Park in BD. Classic Spielberg movie for the ages.

Imagine my surprise to see that the 3D conversion on Spielberg's JURASSIC PARK is waaaay better than the 3D for the new JURASSIC WORLD! Shows that Spielberg's visual acumen is much stronger than most of today's moviemakers. The new dino movie was made with 3D already in place. But that wasn't the case when JURASSIC PARK was made...yet JP's 3D easily trounces JW. Probably the best 3D conversion of an older film I've seen since WIZARD OF OZ.

Besides its ground-breaking visual effects that brought believable CG dinosaurs to the screen, "Jurassic Park" is an engaging story full of interesting characters the viewer can actually care about. (Which I can't say about "Jurassic World".) Things happen during the course of the film that were unexpected on first viewing, and remain fun to see on subsequent viewings. One example is when 2 characters must climb down a large tree while being chased (down the tree) by a Land Rover. Or a lawyer being eaten by a T-Rex while hiding in a port-a-potty. (That itself is worth the price of admission.) All in all, a modern classic well worth owning on Blu-ray.

The first time I saw Jurassic Park when I was a kid I was absolutely blown away. The dinosaurs were so realistic for the time. And the movie still holds up today. Even though and texture and skin rendering looks a little dated everything else it spot on. This blu ray transfer is also excellent. It ticks all of the boxes with great, natural color; rich, clear sound; and a good selection of extras. The steelbook is also very cool. I love the matte finish they used on it. Bottom line: if you like this movie, dinosaurs, or just well crafted stories, you should enjoy this movie.

The 3D in Jurassic Park is 50/50. Some scenes look amazing (when they first see the dinosaurs) while others are underwhelming. The scene with the T-rex attacking the vehicles is enhanced by the 3D but still suffers from darkness issues. I found myself have to up the backlight on my TV to get the full effect of the 3D. It's a 2D to 3D conversion so there are limitations to how good it can look in 3D. In some scenes it shows those limitations (when Grant and the kids see the brachiosaurus the ones in the distance don't really pop out). Overall it's worth buying if you have a quality 3DTV and can handle wearing the glasses for two hours plus.

There's no point in reviewing Jurassic Park. The movie is basically untouchable. Whether the 3D blu-ray is worthwhile or not is another matter, and I believe that it is. It may have been made some 15 or 20 years before 3D movies and blu-rays became a thing, but the 3D on this disc does not betray its age at all. It looks very good. Many scenes show remarkable depth and it's very pleasing to look at. It's not perfect, however. Some scenes (the chilean sea bass lunch scene comes to mind) hardly used the 3D effect at all. At other times the color palette gets a little bit too warm for my liking, which is not a problem I've had on the 2D disc. Overall, it is a great way to experience the movie, particularly if you're a fan of, or at least not offended by 3D. Whether it's more enjoyable than the original version is probably based more on personal preference. Any fan of the movie should certainly at least check it out.
