Fantastic for the price when on sale
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked these up based off recommendations online as a good pair of near field monitors. I had been using a pair of single driver, full range speakers and a 4.5wpc SET amp that sounded amazing, but was lean on the lows. This setup worked well for me for many years, but more recently as I updated my work setup I no longer had room for the rather large amp. I originally set out to buy a newer small class D amp and figured I'd upgrade my speakers while I was at it. The Kef Q150 are a fantastic value when on sale for $300, but there are better speakers I'd look for at their full price. Build quality is not as nice as my previous speakers (Tekton Design 4.5) or my main speakers downstairs, but they do sound pretty good. The uni drivers provide fantastic soundstage and they work well near field as not all speakers will. I've used these speakers with 3 different amps and only one was a poor combination. First up was my 4.5wpc SET amp which is just so musical, and a touch warm which is common with tubes. This was a great combo as it toned down the uptick these speakers have in the highs. Next, I tried a sub $200 Class D amp and the highs just sounded too shrill and led to listening fatigue so I next tried with a Rega IO class AB amp and this was the best of both. More power than my tube amp while still not sounding shrill in the highs. I know this amp costs more than the Q150 at full MSRP, but it is a good pairing. Overall I would recommend these to anyone that has space and wants a near field setup. I'm presently using these on some Kanto desktop stands with either my Oppo BDP-83SE universal disc player or my MacBook Pro as source (USB DAC) to a Rega IO integrated amp rated at 30wpc.

Worth everypenny
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got these for half off ($300). They don’t sound anything like a $3000 speaker so get that out of your mind right now. The bass is present and the treble is very good. I got them cause it was a great deal and will use them for my Sirius in house setup. For that they are fine. They do sound fine the louder you play them. The bass comes on very goo and it just sounds much more than a tiny bookshelf speaker should. Get em half off and enjoy them in a lot of situations.

Very good speakers
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Paired with a Q250C in a tight area (office desk) and mostly near field listening. Took a while to dial in with Denon AVR as they were a bit too bright and fatiguing in the confined space, but I blame my environment more and not solely the speakers. I do have paired with a sub and that helps greatly. They have decent lows but no way will fill a large space so the sub I think is necessary for most users. They do sound better through AVR playing newer, ATMOS music which uses Center speaker and my surrounds and height (Polk XT 90s) but feel a bit fatiguing when acting as front only in stereo. Very good but not blowing me away. Happy with purchase. 5 stars for the Q250C though as I love that speaker and has made a world of difference.

Well worth the sale price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always liked Kef speakers (although I own and prefer Bowersd & Wilkins). When I saw these on sale for half price I jumped at upgrading the speakers in our secondary system. I wasn't disappointed. Although no speaker this size will have really good bass they are surprisingly satisfying for casual listening. The kids and highs are quite good and on good speaker stands they project much larger than their diminutive size. Well worth the $300/pair paid.

Good speaker, just not for me.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great imaging, I found them just too bright for my taste. I listen to a lot of music close up at a desk setup so a neutral- warm speaker was what I needed. The build quality is also meh.

Fantastic at low to medium volumes.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these for a near field listening setup in a home office. Pros: The highs from the metal dome tweeter are beautiful and not harsh or fatiguing in any way. The bass sounds great too. One of the first songs I played through them was Dire Straits "Ride Across the River" and it sounded fantastic. I listen mostly at low to medium volumes. Cons: They don't sound as good at higher volumes. Bass can become boomy. Also mid range seems to become more recessed as volume goes up. I am using an Aiyma T9 pro which is a fairly low powered amp. Going to try an amp with more juice and see if that helps with midrange. Also, I still need to try different positioning in the room. Overall, I think these sound fantastic for near field listening at low volumes.

Great sounding speakers
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these for listening to music and for the TV sound when watching movies; these KEF speakers have very good sound and the bass is much stronger than I would have expected for a smaller size bookshelf speaker. I have them installed on a recessed shelf below the TV and the bass is strong enough that you can feel it in the floor structure; I was originally planning on adding a subwoofer to my system, but that may not be necessary now. When watching movings, the sound is much clearer than my previous Yamaha speakers. When playing CD's or streaming music the fidelity is much improved over my old speakers as well. I took off one star from the rating because the walnut veneer laminate had a number of raw edges that I had to carefully color with a brown marker to make them blend in with the rest of the cabinet; KEF's quality control should have caught that in the factory. Definitely worth the sale price, although the regular price does seem a bit steep.

Good speakers
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Instrumental music is pretty good. The bass is ok for a room. The wood cabinet is good in bringing the fuller vocals or instrumental music to front. Good sound stage overall

Great bookshelfs
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great speakers! Highlights are vocals and drums sound amazing. Crystal clear with great detail that doesnt get lost. Biggest lowlight would be bass was always a bit lacking, it was punchy and accurate but never quite as captivating and room filling as i wanted it to be. Not exactly a con but these speakers change A LOT based on room placement and how much toe in/out you put on them. Once you find that sweet spot its truly a different pair of speakers!

Very nice
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good speakers. They image well and have great soundstage. Sweet on the treble and more bass than I expected. Not the best quality of bass but it's descent and above average looks for it's sale price. Better options out there at it's regular price.

Great when on sale. Pass when not
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you catch them on sale ($350) they’re great buy. Being a point source design, the sound is cohesive and engaging. The only knock (at same price) is the build feels kinda cheap. The box is light weight and the veneer is kinda cheesy (depending on color). At full MSRP I’d pass.

Big sound with such a small speaker
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Im going with 4 stars because its not the best when playing music. But when playing movies that's a hole different sound! Amazing! The problem i had with these is my receiver is new and i had problems with the settings so i called Denon and they walked me through the set up to match what the speakers needs as far as power. So the set up makes the biggest difference too so don't get bummed out when you hear them. It might be as easy as setting your receiver to its specs.

Good Compact Bookshelf Speaker
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was looking for some compact bookshelf speakers for a mix of TV and music. Love the look of these and the sound was good for the price. Unfortunately they were just a little to large for my space/aesthetics so I I ended up returning. I still would recommend though if they work in your room!

Good bookshelf speakers
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my new speakers and they were at a great price when I picked them up. Audio is clear and sounds good to my ears. They don't come with grills, so if that's important to you, they need to be bought separately. Although there is talk about grills affecting performance. I think they look nice without the grills.

Good for the price on special of about $300
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They sound good enough for a small room. A subwoofer will make it sound much better. The highs are not bright enough for my taste but they aren’t too bad. I wouldn’t recommended at full price but for about $300 for the pair yes.
