I was sick of having to return my pioneer decks in for repair so I decided to go with kenwood. Big mistake. This thing takes forever to boot up when I start the vehicle, and it keeps not wanting to change screens when I tell it to. Many times it gets stuck on the back up camera when I throw it back into drive from reverse and I have to manually being up the radio again. There's also some problems with Apple car play but I think that's more Apple related. It also turns off by itself if I turn the volume too loud, even though all my speakers are driven from an external amp.
It will also randomly reset sometimes and go back into demo mode. That happened when I was trying to show off my "cool new stereo" to a friend and was rather embarrassing. Stereo was "professionally" installed by Best Buy.

Bought this unit a few weeks ago and haven't regretted it. Works perfectly with Android Auto. I have a Google Play Music account and can stream audio with no problems. The map function is just like using your phone, but a lot safer since you don't have to keep constantly looking down at your phone for the turn by turn directions. The unit itself also has a lot of customizations from different equallizers to the color of the buttons. Best Buy Auto installers also made the rear view camera working in my 2015 Corolla. This is a great unit and I would recommend it to anyone who wants Android Auto in their car.

I have been using this stereo for more than 6 months now. Couple of weeks ago Kenwood released a new firmware 1.60 and update was easy.
I prefer Android Auto over iOS CarPlay for various reasons. I have not set up this for App mode. Since there is only one USB port, this stereo limit your usage over App mode. You need to stick with either APP mode or Android Auto/CarPlay. For that reason I took out one star out. Otherwise this is a 5 star product for the price and functions.

I was stoked for a Kenwood 7" screen with android auto. this screen is awesome. the only things i don't like are
A. 1a charger... come on Kenwood, how is an android smartphone supposed to charge with a 1a charge with 4G, BT, and Location on???
B. only 1 USB. would be nice to have one dedicated for AA and the other for use with an iPod or flash Drive. would just clean things up to be able to have a flash drive in my glove box and AA USB mounted on the dash for ease of use..
C. Dual zone!!!! come on! would love to be able to send video to a rear screen for the kids and be able to do something else in the front.
... I waited this long for my review to see what the replacement would be... the 9703 upgrades to a 1.5a charger but seems to keep the same other issues that I have... I like the all black look of the Kenwood much more than the 4200NEX but it does have 2 usb's (1.5a) and dual zone. with its silver trim...
Now that the Pioneer NEX system is fully maestro compatible it will be difficult to want to stick with Kenwood based upon the simple factor of dual zone. that is it. aside from that Kenwood has always provided and been awesome to me

first of all if you take the time to read these reviews don't listen to what a lot of these customers say. there is a true screen off feature but you have to set it up in the menu. and the unit will play music from your phone through Bluetooth mine even plays as soon as I turn on my car which is pretty awesome if you have trouble read the manual there are so many features that you need to to get the most out of it

so much potential, not worth the hype.

The good:
The image is crystal clear on this unit, and the adjustable screen angle is great for fighting off glare, or for different driving positions.
Amazing sound quality once you get it set up properly. Make sure you know what size speakers your vehicle has, and where located to really take advantage of this unit's controllability.
Simple, straight-forward wiring
Clean, organized setup on the back for all all wires and plug-ins.
The Ugly:
This is my biggest complaint about this unit. There is no proper "screen off" function for night driving. The instructions mention pressing & holding the "aud" button, however all this does is turn the screen a solid bright blue, which really isn't pleasant for those long overnight drives. I've yet to find a way to change this. The only way to avoid a blinding screen at night is to limit your use to CDs or completely turn the unit off.
Adjusting the screen angle requires going through several menus. It would have been nice to have a quick shortcut to this as the screen is quite reflective, and can be hard to find the right place to press if you want to skip a track. You end up fiddling with it, and inevitably hit the wrong place. Perhaps this will change once used to the unit, but the UI has a few oddly located controls on screen.
The questionable:
Unit was advertised as double din, but is somewhat larger than any other double din I've seen/installed. For my purposes, installing this unit required fabricating new brackets and cutting into my dashboard quite a bit. marked questionable as I was comfortable doing these extra things, but know many who aren't or wouldn't do so.
When all is said and done, this is an amazing piece of furniture for your dashboard, but I would find it virtually impossible to recommend to anyone unless they are looking for a device that can be linked to both Android and Iphone. I've yet to meet anybody who is comfortable with, or can afford, both an iPhone and an Android device.

I had this unit install by Best Buy. I purchased the unit because of the Android Auto feature, [I hate IPhones]...Android Auto doesn't work at all. Google and Android offer ZERO support! The USB connection does not work and I now need to take it back to see if we can get it fixed. Google trouble shooting states that not all USB cable will work with this unit???? Really????
Kenwood has been less than helpful also. I find it amazing that American corporations want us to buy from them, yet they offer no support when there are problems.
And for the record GOOGLE / Android,,,,I don't want to join your social media to leave a message or to get support! I hate social media! You made and supplied it support it without me joining and giving you all of my information!

I purchased this car stereo from Best Buy for the Apple CarPlay feature. From day one the CarPlay feature did not work as Kenwood stereo firmware was not compatible with the most recent Apple OS update. After contacting Kenwood they acknowledged the issue exists however they had no timeline for resolution. It's been almost a year and they have yet to update their firmware to make this feature compatible. After visiting Best Buy requesting assistance all they said was it's past our 30 day policy there's nothing we can do. Neither company wants to support its product that I spent nearly 1000$ on. I won't shop kenwood and I'll buy my electronics from someone else now.
