It’s always slightly off and I’m not sure if it’s because it’s an ear reading or if it’s because it’s not a good product. I was excited because it had an app but if the temp readings are off it’s kind of pointless. Can’t recommend

Our daughter, who is 2 years old, was recently sick. Based on our experience, the Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer is comparable to the Braun ear one that we had at home in terms of temperature accuracy but it has a lot of pluses that the Braun does not have. In terms of speed, the Kinsa wins hands down which is helpful if you have fidgety tot when they're ill. The app that comes with the Kinsa immediately tracks the temperatures as you take them with the date and time. You can add symptoms to each reading. When you choose the symptoms, Elmo's voice appears and explains in a way any child can understand what each is. My daughter, an avid Elmo fan, fell in love and laughed at some of his explanations. It definitely lightened the mood and made her feel slightly better even though her temp was a bit high still. I think once she is a little bit older, it would be easy for her to learn how to track her temp on her own and be more interested in learning about her own health. There is a manual entry option that allows you to leave complete descriptions with pictures taken from your smart phone while setting any reminders. The picture option is invaluable if verbal explanations to the doctor cannot easily explain the symptoms your child has. The app also has a resources tab that provide advice on how to soothe symptoms and what some common illnesses are (with notes on how to identify, how to treat and when to see a doc). This is helpful if you are unable to see or talk to a doctor right away. The app also allows you to capture the medical history of your other family members. It allows you to choose a Sesame Street character icon, color or a picture taken from your smartphone to be placed next to each name. If your child is not reading age yet, they can choose the correct profiles by the picture. I really like the thought that came into creating this thermometer. I think the only thing my husband didn't like was that the Braun can show you the last temperature on the thermometer but to do the same with the Kinsa, you have to pull up the app so it's an extra step. Otherwise, it hits all the points we have for a new fave family thermometer: Kid friendly; Family Friendly; Easy to Use; Speed; Accuracy; Easy tracking (goodbye, pencils and paper!). We highly recommend this thermometer to anyone who is considering buying one for their family. I received this thermometer as a gift from the weeSpring Parent Panel.

Bought this as an experiment, as I must take temp frequently due to a chronic condition. Temp given is invariably 2-3 degrees cooler than body temp. I've gone back to oral thermometers.

I loved the unit until I used it several times and saw that the readings were almost 2 degrees lower than my other unit...I tried to recalibrate but wasn't correcting problem

This thermometer is wildly innacurate, so it's useless. You'd think for $40 you'd be getting something that could at least give you a temperature reading. I can take my own temperature 5 different times in a 1 minute span and I'll get 5 different readings that vary by as much as 1.5 fahrenheit. Example - 5 temperatures taken just now: 97.7 - 98.2 - 98.0 - 99.1 - 98.4 Wish I used it before I felt my baby was getting a cold so I can actually get my money back.

Never get the same temperature twice on this thing. And it’s not even a small variance in temperature. Also get different temperatures in each ear. So disappointed

Bad thermometer, I've had to exchange 3x , it keep giving me different temperature readings, the last time my baby was sick with a fever of 100.3 and this thermometer keep reading 96.9 it was way off. I took it with me to the doctor office to compare and even the doctor told me it was wrong, yes i know i exchanged it 3x, but this is the only brand Best Buy carried. Let me give you a advice buy a protection plan when buying this, you'll need it..

Absolutely inaccurate readings, Tested with my Braun thermometer (after I relied on this one too many times my children felt feverish). It was giving me a reading of 98.5, when indeed my child was at 101.0. Great idea though, nice app configuration, if only it took accurate readings. Works great as a pretend toy thermometer, I would never use this as a health device to take my children’s temperature.

I got a chance to try this thermometer as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. This thermometer is so easy to use and quick to read my children's temperature. The thermometer easily etched with the app on my through Bluetooth. The corresponding app helps to keep track of my children's temps through out the day. The app also allows for you to set reminders for administering medicine. I thought this was the most useful! I would highly recommended this to any parent!

The thermometer is quick and easy to use. It was easy to set up right from the box and the app loaded with no problem. I set up profiles for each of our family members, but was disappointed that there were only Sesame Street characters to choose from (our kids don't watch that show). I thought there might be other images, like a boy with short hair or a girl with curly hair. Not important, really, but a bit limiting. I like that you don't need a probe cover for the thermometer, but I can't see myself cleaning the tip between uses, either. And the tip is a bit big for our 12 month old, so I'm not sure if it would fit into the ear of a smaller baby. My biggest complaint is that you have to have your phone nearby and the app open to log the temperature reading onto a profile. We have three small kids, and chances are that more than one child is sick at the same time. If I were taking their temperatures in the middle of the night, it would be inconvenient to go find my phone just to record the reading. It DOES save "unassigned readings" for later, but you would have to remember which kid had which temperature. In other words, if you took four temps in the night, by morning, when you synced the thermometer and phone, you'd have to know which of the four belonged to which kid, etc. If you did have to go to the doctor, though, it would he nice to have all the data right there and not on a piece of scrap paper! Overall, it works quickly and the thermometer is easy to use. I just wish you could select which person's temperature you were taking from the thermometer, not just from the app on your phone. I was able to try this thermometer thanks to the WeeSpring Parent Panel.

I have had Kinsa products in the past and loved them, but this thing drives me crazy. It’s pretty much useless. You can take your temperature 5 times back to back and it’s probably going to be different every time.

Not accurate readings. I used this thermometer along with other thermometers and this gave 4 different readings none accurate. I wouldnt recommend.

This themometer would give out four different temps on the same person. The difference in temps were so great that at one point I thought I was going to make a trip to the ER. Returned the product.

Purchased as my young son was getting sick. The temperature reading was never accurate on my son our my wife and I.

Well never again will I purchase this thermometer even if I was underpressure. It didn't stand up to my comfort zone.

Not great for beginners, children and would not recommend.

This thermometer gives a very quick readout, works with a very easy-to-use app (it also works without the app) and saves profiles of household members for you to keep track of temperatures over time. My kids willingly allowed me to use the ear thermometer on them and actually liked when I took their temperature! Definitely an essential to have in your medicine cabinet. I have a thing with kids thermometers – I've tried them all and none have impressed me like this one. There's really nothing not to like! It's fast, simple, and most importantly, accurate! Using it with an iPhone app intimidated me at first, but the directions and set up are very simple. Plus, the app is completely optional. You can use it just fine even without the app, but the app is an added bonus! It reads an accurate temperature in the ear almost instantly, then records the reading directly to the app. The app also has some other helpful features, like individual profiles for every user, a symptom recorder, and even offers medical advice from experts. I should note that I received this thermometer as a gift from the weeSpring Parent Panel- many thanks to them!

Who knew taking a child's temperature would be so hard? I have tried so many thermometers and struggled with them. The forehead ones don't work accurately, the mouth ones are impossible for little kids, and the rectal thermometers, well forget it after 1 year. This ear thermometer is a dream. Best feature is how quickly it works! You get a reading in about a second. No more waiting. It is amazing! My toddler loves that the reading gets hooked up to a personal Sesame Street Character on the Kinsa app. The app is super intuitive and easy to use and track other symptoms. I also love the feature in this app where it tells you when to call the doctor and can track a fever over a period of time. Thanks to the WeeSpring Parent Panel for letting me try this thermometer!

The Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer is great! It is very easy to use and takes temperatures very quickly. It is also the most accurate ear thermometer I have used. I checked this with my regular underarm thermometer and this one gives the same temperature, showing strong accuracy in way less time! I used it on both my toddler and infant and it works well on both children. The app is also very easy to set up (instructions are on the app), and I really like that you can have multiple profiles to keep track of the temperatures of multiple children in the household. I highly recommend this thermometer and am glad I had a chance to try it as part of the WeeSpring Parent Portal.
