Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with the 24" Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher's quiet operation and excellent cleaning performance. Many appreciate the additional space provided by the third rack and the overall capacity of the dishwasher. While some find the cycle time to be lengthy, the positive feedback on cleaning ability and noise level outweighs this concern. The ease of use and stainless steel interior are also frequently praised.

Talked ourselves into a sleek stainless steel dishwasher, had it installed by the servicemen. The first time it was ran I kept checking to see if it was really on it was so quiet.....absolutely love that. Like that it totally dries my dishes. The only thing I'm not thrilled about.....the controls are on the face of the dishwasher. If anyone leans on the counter in front of the dishwasher they most likely will start the wash cycle. Over all I have to say there are more good things about it than this one oops it has.

We really like the dishwasher. Its just one thing that keeps coming apart is the rubber seal for the soap dispenser. We have had it replaced twice now and hopefully they come up with a more permanent solution before the warranty runs out.

    KitchenAid KDFE204ESS- An Excellent Dishwasher

My wife and I needed to replace the dishwasher that came with the house when we purchased it 10 years ago. The old one was terrible and we wanted something more reliable so we did quite a bit of research. This included visiting several stores and speaking to several reps. We also subscribed to Consumer Reports for a larger, unbiased view. All things pointed to a KitchenAid dishwasher. And now one month later I'm happy to say that it really is an excellent dishwasher. It doesn't always wash every dish perfectly clean but I suspect that none can or do. But it does a very good job on moderately dirty dishes. We love the third rack and how quiet it is when it's running. We also love the stainless interior (tub). We installed the unit ourselves and that was easy enough to do. Instructions, however, can be a bit vague at times but with a bit of extra time we worked through those.

Dishwasher gets the job done well

Great cleaning every time thanks to Pro Wash cycle, Pro Scrub and Heat Dry options. Pro Scrub eliminates soaking and pre-scrubbing by spraying 40 targeted jets at stubborn baked on food. ProWash determines what wash cycle will be best for washing your dishes based on how much dirt is on your dishes and adjusts for the best length of time to clean your dirty dishes. The HeatDry option uses a recessed heating element when drying dishes to ensure all are dry. My dishes were crystal clear. But I do miss my old Kitchen Aid that didn't require me buying a Rinse Aid to get the same job done. All three strong shelves guide easily in and out of dishwasher. The dishwasher definitely holds more dishes than my old model. It is very quiet when operating - you don't even know it is on.

    OK Dishwasher

This unit replaced a 17-year old GE that was cleaning fine, but the dirt sensor was no longer active and the opening of the cover for the detergent was no longer reliable and parts were no longer available. The design for stacking dishes in the new unit has taken a few steps backward. It is nice to have the third level for larger flat items. However, the lower level is set so that large dishes leave a space of ~1.5 inches from the edge of the dish to the edge of the rack. This is wasted space that causes dinner plates to actually touch smaller plates. The size of the cutlery holder is twice that of the previous one. This lets the spray get to the cutlery better, but it also takes up twice as much space. Also, it only fits on the right side and cannot be placed on the left side. That is OK if your sink is on the right, but if it is on the left as ours is, it makes it difficult to reach over to place cutlery in. There is half as much space for wine glasses. We use Heated Drying. The old GE always left some water in glasses that did not have a flat bottom. Thought this new one would be better. Completely wrong. Most items on top shelf have their bottoms [i.e., top as inserted as they are upside down] still wet at end of cycle. Even the rack controls to lift and lower the second rack have indentations that collect water and are not dry at end of cycle. The cleaning seems adequate, although we have not tried all the cycles. It seems KitchenAid has sacrificed utility for ecological and sound concerns instead of getting engineers to achieve both. Utility should be the prime consideration and it is not in this unit. It is nice to now have a stainless steel interior. This unit has clean exterior lines as it is without a handlebar that would just result in people bumping into it in a tight kitchen.

Very easy to use. Dishes come out clean and dry.The dishwasher is quiet and you can barely hear it when it's running. The third rack is useful. More foldable tines would have been nice on the top rack.

I read the reviews and did some research on dishwashers. This is the newer version of the one that I planned to buy. The sales people at the store are always helpful and pleasant. Price matching saved me about $90. It has three drawers instead of two. It looks great and cleans my dishes sparkling. I got the free installation deal and had great service. The only thing that was a huge difference between my ancient dishwasher and the new one, is that it takes so much longer to wash the dishes approximately 80 minutes now but it is super quiet.

Was very surprised with the easy loading of this dishwasher especially after struggling with the German model for several years. The performance is so quiet its difficult to know it's running and dishes come out clean and dry. The ball bearing racks are a plus. Only complaint is the small 3rd rack could be 1/2 inch deeper to accommodate ramekin size items.

When they tested my dishwasher after installation, I asked is it on? Very quiet & does a great job cleaning the dishes. The 3rd rack is an great addition for longer utensils, that don't fit in the silverware holder. The cycle time is long (2.5 hours) but with no noise, no problem.

Had to replace after 4 years, did not have a extended warranty and it did not pay to have the original fixed. This dishwasher is quieter than our original. I like that the inside is stainless steel vs plastic. Seems to be better built than 4 years ago GET EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON ALL APPLIANCES.

I have cats and I like to run the dirty cat dishes through a rinse cycle when there aren’t enough dishes to run the dishwasher - the result was less than I expected. Very little food was removed from the plates. I also tried a regular wash cycle and many of the dishes, glasses, and silverware did not get clean. I have to use the “tough” cycle to get everything clean and then on occasion there is still grit on some items.

Had this for about a month now and so far it is a great dishwasher. Everything is coming out very clean, it is quiet while it is running, and seems very efficient on water and energy use. My only complaint is that I have it right below some counter space I use a ton while cooking and I often bump the buttons causing the unit to beep and rarely start running. I probably should have got a unit with the buttons on the top, but I am getting used to it and triggering it less.

My requirements for a new dishwasher were: Made in U.S.A. QUIET Black with front controls 3rd rack Adjustable tines & racks This dishwasher has all of the above. - It is made in the U.S.A. and quiet, dreamily quiet! I can be standing next to it or in the basement under it and it is hardly noticeable. My husband cannot hear it at all and has to look at the lights to see if it is running. So happy! -It is black with front controls. The blue and white lights from the controls are so bright you do not need a nightlight or at our house, the overhead light. The controls are very sensitive and we have had a few times of cycles getting changed or ended early if even the cat bumps them, let alone if I lose my balance and nudge it. -It has a 3rd rack. I am frustrated by it. First and foremost I explained to the associate that I did not want it to be straight across so I could fit larger lids and odd shaped flatware. This one is all the same level, lids to cups and mugs sometimes fit, sometimes not depending on how deep they are. The meat fork, pie server, and slotted serving spoons of our silverware set do not fit properly. I can put them face down but then they get water spots or don't get clean. -The middle rack is adjustable, which is great since if it is in the up position and you have glasses or plates more than 6" tall, think 16oz travel mug or iced tea glasses, they hit the top rack and fall over or into each other and prevent the closing of the door. This creates the next problem that if the middle rack is lowered my 10 1/2" do not fit well on the bottom rack. -Adjustable tines are laughable. Only the row of tines toward the back of the dishwasher on the bottom rack adjust. The middle rack has a plastic flip shelf that can be used to hold stems on glassware. There are only 4 slots and they are very close together. Challenging to use. The top rack has nothing adjustable. While technically this dishwasher met my requirements, I would not have purchased it had I been able to see it in person. We debated sending it back, and then we had 2 feet of snow, so I guess it is here to stay. I said I would not recommend it to a friend, but it would depend on their needs and dish size. We rotate through several sets of dishes during the year and I really wanted a dishwasher that could handle them all.

Silverware rack still separates but much easier to unload. Haven't used power wash yet, but liked that feature when we were looking. Top tray for spatulas & bigger serving items is nice (though it's shallow, so ladles don't fit there). Nice to actually get clean dishes!
