    Great start, some annoyances

    Posted .

I heard about this game a few months ago, and was quickly excited since I'm currently going to school for Criminal Justice. I picked it up at the midnight release and just recently finished the game and overall, I was extremely satisfied with my purchase. First off, I've been reading a lot of complaints about people who say this game is repetitive, which is true, but what game isn't? Call of Duty is, Battlefield is, etc. The fact of the matter is, the game is based around you being able to find clues, and to be able to tell whether or not someone is lying to you when you're interviewing them. Secondly, I found that there are a few bugs that are a minor nuisance, but nothing major. The AI drivers (excluding your partner) tend to only obey your siren partially, and will often stop in the middle of the intersection if you're trying to speed through them which can lead to a lower case rating due to vehicular damage. I also found that your partner may have a difficult time getting into multiple vehicles quickly (if you're in a parking lot unlocking new cars, for example) which means you have to drive to your next destination. There are also some slight frame rate issues I noticed throughout the game. While the game isn't all that difficult to complete, the overall story arc is very intriguing, seeing how Phelps (the main character) went from Silver Star-receiving Marine to "Hot Shot Cop" and how many of the characters from the war remain very close to the central plot of the game. The ending, without spoiling anything, is bittersweet, however. Overall, if you're a fan of anything that relates to crime, I'd highly recommend picking this title up. You may also want the guide since there are multiple sets of collectibles hidden throughout the city.

THIS is what a $60 game SHOULD be

I like this game for a few reasons 1) It has a solid plot and requires intelligence and real thinking to get through each case w/ successful and useful interrogations. You can't just blindly do things, then do them over again if you mess it up. If you want to "do over" - you're starting ALL over. Gets you to think about things the FIRST time through 2) The graphics & facial animations are incredible. My wife actually thought I was watching a movie. She couldn't believe I was actually playing a game. She's actually gotten in to it, helps me out in interrogations and likes watching me play because the game is, in fact, interesting to even watch. 3) You can be as involved or uninvolved w/ the surrounding LA community as you want. If you drive everywhere, you can answer to Street Crime calls to help out citizens and gain points/achievements in the game, or you can simply target the case-relevant stops and interviews, ignoring the surrounding scenery. 4) "Intuition" concept is refreshing, causes you to carefully weigh out your options while searching for clues, interrogating suspects, etc.

Excellent Game. Nice change from GTA

    Posted .

So I have been waiting for this game since I saw the 1st trailer for it several months ago. I am a huge Rockstar fan and love all the games they put out. They have a hit with L.A. Noire. I am super impressed. Now let me say right off the bat, if you are expecting an action packed, non-stop, thrillride, this is not the game for you. If you are just looking for GTA 5, this is not for you. If you are looking for a high quality crime drama, with incredible graphics, excellent gameplay, and huge map with many places to explore, get this game now. I have not finished this game yet, but there are so many things to do. You don't have to do the main story line. You can go explore whenever and wherever you want. There are street crimes to solve, hidden classic vehicles to find, Landmarks to find, hidden movie reels, you can take anyone's vehicle you like, because afterall, you are a cop. So far every main crime I have solved has had a different story line. Yes, with every main crime you follow the same basic routine. You have to find clues, interview witnesses and suspects, and solve the crime. But Hello, you are a detective. That's what detective's do. People that don't like this game are probably expecting another GTA where you can just kill anyone you like. But with this game, you actually have to think a little. I love it. I was getting kind of bored with the GTA games anyways. Oh, and this might just be the best looking game I have ever seen or played.

    Great Story and Gameplay

    Posted .

I really enjoy sitting down to play this game. The cases are interesting and fun, although they can get a bit repetitive. The side stories come up at random, so if you are a completionist, you might not want to skip all the cutscenes and have your partner drive the whole time. This is not your average video game because you must think and use your wits at most points in the game. I would give this 5 stars, but it is just a bit repetitive.

Great game, but a little short

This game raises the bar for what a video game can do with facial animations. The fact that you can tell when someone is lying to you with almost 100% certainty JUST by watching their face when they talk is amazing to me. My only problem is the game length....it could've been a bit longer. My guess is, they used a lot of the disc memory on the graphics.

Rock Star games never let you down! In L.A. Noire you play as a detective and work through different divisions in the LAPD set in the 1940s. The game is a very long campaign mission where you will solve crimes by collecting/analyzing evidence and interviewing suspects and witnesses. The facial animation is very well done. This helps when interviewing because you can see advanced facial expression which help you determine if a suspect is telling the truth, lying or stalling, which you will have to determine. Collected evidence connects with interviewing tecniques, you cannot accuse someone of lying if you don't have the evidence to back it up. It is an open-world environment, but when on missions it mostly like going from one point to the other with less time for free roam. You can free roam at the end of each promotion, but you're restricted in things you can do like drawing weapons at will. Overall, I think free roam is much more restricted in this game as opposed to other Rock Star games. But that doesn't mean the game isn't fun. The story is excellent. Keeps you addicted and wanting to keep playing. This game is almost like a TV show in the way that it is designed. The missions are like the "episodes". The game can offer you a good challenge at times. But overall I think LA Noire is the first step in video game story telling and animation. The story mode alone takes up 3 Xbox 360 discs. A must own if you enjoy a good mix of open-world, action, story, and problem-solving! Highly recommened!

Setting the standard for the future

    Posted .

the best thing about this game is the facial details, expressions, and just overall awesome performances by the characters, it is very satisfying questioning a suspect in an interrogation room, you have to choose whether someone is lying, doubt them, or telling the truth, its basicly a polished crime scene investigation experience, more than just a mere video game, it sets the standard for the future of voice acting, by bringing the characters to life in a way never seen in prior offerings from anyone, the unique nature of the game, and amount of work that obviously went into it, are more than enough to give this a near perfect rating, the complaining about slow pace and repetitive gameplay is an unfair arguement due to all games suffer from this in some way or another, shooter fans may goto sleep, but gamers who appreciate greatness will not be disappointed, buy with confidence

Awesome 1940's based law enforcement game!!

L.A. Noire is an awesome law enforcement and detective game! It is based in the 1940's and you get to play the roll as a policeman and work your rank up through detective by solving cases and serving justice. The setting is graphic, the experience is fairly realistic, and the cases can be challenging. In game experience is fun and addicting! Controls are easy and objective process of actions is efficient. Loads of fun cases and extra calls on the side! I hope they come out with a second game, if they have not already!

    L.A. Noire

    Posted .

L.A. Noire has you thinking and acting like a detective.Throughout the game's 21 cases, which will see your character in multiple departments in the LAPD,you will need to survey crime scenes, pick up and examine items, and interview people of interest to obtain new leads. The interviewing segments are the main focus of the game, requiring you to use the evidence or clues you've collected to determine if a suspect is telling the truth, hiding information,or outright lying to you.Not only is the lip synching the most accurate of any title yet released, but facial expressions come into play as well. You can only ask questions from a list of topics gathered from the clues you've discovered, then decide to believe, doubt,or disregard the answer. If your expecting an open-world sandbox game like Red Dead Redemption or GTA IV you'll be turned off.But it's great in story telling, and technology. This game isn't quite the blockbuster game many expected, but the high production values and atmosphere make it a must play title.

The game play is similar to GTA but you're a cop. The storyline is pretty fun because you're solving crimes and mysteries.

This game was fun with great story twists & well worth the price. The free play is similar to Grand Theft Auto, but this time you're a good guy. The graphics are great & the cases are fun. Recommend adding to your library.

Holds interest for the mature player

    Posted .

Graphics and in game environment are very immersive and detailed. Fans of the 30 and 40's era would find this game interesting, as would anyone that likes solving mysteries and/or playing adventure type games. There is a little bit of game play to offer the FPS player, but that is not what this game is about. Those that enjoy just driving around in GTA 4 might like doing so in this game, as the map is very large and detailed. The interogation aspect of the game gives this game a new dimension in game play, although it does not allow you to formulate your own follow-up questions.

How did I miss this game???

I was looking for an open-world RPG or FPS that had a more realistic feel to it. L.A. Noire meets those criteria and more. It's well crafted and immersive. The controls are decent enough, though vehicle driving is more of a GTA experience then I would imagine 1940s L.A. to have been. I think the cases are challenging and the story is solid. Love the game.

Very disappointed! Way too slow paced!

    Posted .

I have been looking forward to this game since last year and was counting down the days until I can feel the excitement of working as an LA detective back in the 40s. Let me just tell you right off the bat that I wasnt expecting this to be a 40s version of GTA or Red Dead Redemption but with it still being an Open World game, I thought it would have some similarities. The first few missions were really fun and I was so stunned by the amazing graphics and how cool it was collecting all the clues. After about a half hour, I got bored so quick. The gameplay was soooooo slow and even just 15 minutes in, it was feeling repetitive. The concept was cool but I mean seriously, how much fun is it playing for hours where all you do is walk around, look for clues, ask witnesses questions, find more clues, ask more questions, solve case, then go to the next case where...guess what...its finding more clues, asking questions, blah blah blah. The game isnt really challenging either. Dossnt make you really think at all other than just finding right info by process of elimination. Incase your wondering what you cant do as compared to other Rockstar games, You cant just kill anyone. Cant even pull out your gun unless someone pulls one on you. Cant even run over pedestrians in car, If you crash into someone, nothing happens, and no multiplayer. All in all, If you like action and atleast some action, DO NOT buy this game. If you wanna really mellow experience and love just solving crimes, then maybe its for you.

I've only played this game a little due to the length of the missions. They can take a while especially if you don't choose the proper clues.

It's an overall amazing game and I love everything about it. The graphics are stunning! I really enjoy the time period it is set in as well. The cases are challenging and make you pay attention to detail if you want a perfect score, however at times, they can be a bit too difficult. Although, I can overlook that because I just love the game!

    Great thinking game

Not for young kids unless you don't mind their exposure to violence nudity, and vulgar language. Found this on sale at a very low price. I was hooked from the start. It reminded me of a "choose your path" mystery book... but for adults. Although I could guess the ending, I still enjoyed the storyline. The procedure does get repetitive even though it's not in order: find your person of interest, search for clues, interrogate, on to the next. I'm a casual gamer and I found this to be challenging enough to keep my attention. As you investigate your case, you have the option of responding to street crimes. These side games kept me entertained on the way to the next lead or interview.
