The light from my window is about 18 inches away from the unit but for some reason it would not generate the power to see the outside temp. So I had to physically bring it to the window and wait for the temp to register. hassle- so I changed from the rechargeable batteries to regular alkaline. No difference. When I went to return this product and explained the problem to the cashier, what do you know, it worked perfectly. sorry, wouldn't recommend. still looking for the right one.
