    For the true fan

Okay so this movie being re-released in 4K is literally the only reason my wife allowed me to buy a 4K TV. And it was our way to test out the 4K player on our Xbox which was the main reason I wanted the TV. And we do not regret a single second of any of those purchases. My wife was in tears when she heard the first notes of the music being played in the intro. It sounded so real almost as if Bowie himself was sitting right next to you singing it to you. I don't know if that is because our sound system but either way that alone made the purchase worth it. The steel book just adds to the look of the overall case and makes it much sturdier than your average DVD case.

    A Jim Henson Classic

    |
    Posted .

The 30th Anniversary edition of Muppet-man Jim Henson's classic 1986 film about a little girl's (a really young Jennifer Connelly) battle with the Goblin King (a sly and sinister David Bowie in one of his few film roles) to save her brother comes loaded with extras, but it is the movie itself that is the draw. It still looks great and feels timeless--a true fairytale that will surprise kids who have seen it all in countless modern ripoffs. Priced at $10 or less, it's a must-have addition to any collection.

The best collector's edition I've ever had. I loved how true they made the collector's edition to the movie. Labyrinth is truly one of my favorite movies. If you are a fantasy fan this one is a classic. There will never be a movie so freaking cool like this. David Bowie was the best goblin king ever and you will not be disappointed with Jennifer Connelly has the adventure of a lifetime. If you had an Awesome Mom like mine she would've showed you this real sweet movie. Definitely buy the collector's edition it's awesome!!

A solid blu-ray release of this classic.

The only reason for the four stars here is because the digibook anniversary edition of Labyrinth is the superior edition of the film. It boasts a new (and noticeably better) transfer and comes in a lavish, attractive package. With that said, this particular edition of Labyrinth here is still serviceable with a quality HD transfer and various special features to boot. If you're just a casual fan, this more economic variation will do but if Labyrinth is one of your favorites then you owe it to yourself to get the anniversary edition.

    Definitive Version

This release looks great on both formats. There's some nice new features from some of the cast/crew and a 40 min q&a. They've also ported over previous special features as well. This was worth the upgrade because it gave a childhood classic a whole new experience with great picture and sound

Memories flood back to amazing times when I watch this nostalgic classic. What a treat to own this wonderful film from an influential time. A must see classic for all ages, with the digital book making it all the more special. Performances by the late David Bowie and the incredibly beautiful Jennifer Connelly, bring you into a chilling fantasy world. Fun, exciting...a film you must own and watch with your family!

    A family cult classic!

Ahh, the 80's was a wonderful time in the history of cinema. You could proudly (and foolishly sometimes) wear your heart on your sleeve and be as imaginative and quirky as you wanted to be, without the ubiquitous cynicism and terminal irony that runs rampant today, infecting and crushing your story. And thus darkish and buoyant fantasy films like Labyrinth were born (directed by Jim Henson and written by Terry Jones of Monty Python). Fun, campy, enchanting, inspiring, a bit airy and a bit dark, and very imaginative, are the best words to describe this "Alice in Wonderland" type story that mixes Jim Henson's amazing puppetry with fantastical and phantasmagorical set pieces, David Bowie's rich and silky singing, and young and beautiful Jennifer Connelly making her way through a world of oddities and wonder. Since most special effects are done with CGI these days, Labyrinth is a welcomed nostalgic return to the skillful use of practical effects (though there is some prominent green screen). This Bluray is a handsome step up from the DVD in both sound and video. It is not the cleanest image but it looks fantastic in 1080! There are also some nice extras on this disc. Labyrinth is more Grimm's than a Disney type fairy tale. I wholeheartedly recommend that you introduce your child to this magical, musical and imaginatively dark and fun film!

If you like Fantasy and 80's

    |

his movie is nostalgic for kids great grew up in the 80's. It is along the same fantasy lines as "The Dark Crystal" or "Neverending Story". Jim Henson was a major part of the puppetry in "The Labyrinth" and "The Dark Crystal". David Bowie is not really the lead actor but he makes the entire film work. Jennifer Connelly also does a great job as the lead actress. Keep in mind, this film does have a corny undertone but is somehow well done in spite of it. If you like the 80's, like fantasy movies and liked the other two I mentioned, you'll enjoy "The Labyrinth". Order and get the popcorn poppin'.

    Classic fantasy film hits Blu-ray!

    Posted .

This is the second Blu-ray release of Labyrinth, now remastered in 4K for the film's 30th anniversary. This transfer is superior to the previously released one, which was actually quite impressive in its own right. The film follows Sarah, a girl obsessed with fantasy and mythology, who is whisked away to a fantasy world when her baby brother is abducted by the Goblin King (the late David Bowie in one of his most iconic roles). Along the way to recover her brother she meets many interesting characters, good and evil alike. The film works not just because of the interesting creature design by Jim Henson (it was one of the last projects he worked on prior to his death), but because of the performances from the cast. There are a number of new bonus features here as well, which will make this packaging tempting, even if you have the older release. A strongly recommended release for any fan of the film and/or fantasy movies.

    Love affair with Bowie

    |
    Posted .

Love this movie. Had it on vhs when I was little and due to watching it so much the sound and video quality was an issue. David Bowie in tights, lots of Jim Henson puppets, some of then creepy looking and a young Jennifer Connelly, with the same eyebrows she has today. If you appreciate Jim Henson puppets and a clean movie, this is an excellent movie. From Wikipedia. . The plot revolves around 15-year-old Sarah's quest to reach the center of an enormous otherworldly maze to rescue her infant brother Toby, who has been kidnapped by Jareth, the Goblin King. With the exception of Bowie and Connelly, most of the significant characters in the film are played by puppets produced by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
