    A Laidback Experience

Lake is a carefree adventure simulation that flows similarly to Death Stranding, minus monsters, action, and conflict. It’s a small, episodic adventure with no-wrong answers in all the choices that you can make, where you’re delivering parcel like an actual mailman and taking life day by day and meeting a lot of intriguing personalities in 1986’s Providence Oaks, Oregon. For very casual gamers who thoroughly enjoy delving into a small open-world adventure, big on narrative storytelling, and a sort of completionist gameplay style for partaking in daily tasks, this game is for you. It’s not heavy on action and the controls for the character and your vehicle are very archaic, but the story, situations, and character developments will keep you playing longer to see how things turn out. Graphically good, however, the game lacks a varied soundtrack that will become mundane at some point. I was hoping for more rising action or some big drama to unfold, but that is where the narrative fell short for my experience. The game had potential to be great if there were more conflict and resolutions among the choices you can make, but it all played out very linear and slightly predictable after a while. Pros: Graphically pleasing with cel-shading art style; weather elements; voice acting; story decisions Cons: Lack of action, drama, and major conflict; no enemies and scarce animals; and stiff vehicle controls I recommend that you give it a rental at best.

Pros: The cel-shaded art style, weather elements, environmental/nature scenery, voice acting, and daily task progression relative to the story at your own pace is great. Cons: Awful and stiff vehicle controls, lack of wildlife, no drama/conflict, frequent visual hiccups and lag is inexcusable for a PS5 game. Major Cons: This is where the game drops to an average or below that. The studio has potential to be great but the dialogue and writing for some characters and "Side-quests" felt like they were incomplete, missing, and no matter what choices you made, a lot of them led nowhere but the same results. Some locations as well as characters you visit have no backstory, lore, history, or explanation; just a one and done thing and they never show up again or aren't even relative/involved in the story in anyway, shape, or form. The relationship between the main character and her best friend and mechanic felt natural, organic, and believable. HOWEVER, the possible 2 romantic interests is where this game fails horribly at. The game felt like it was seriously pushing you towards to pick the female romantic interest or be single as the guy is incredibly rude, creepy and awkward illogical jerk. (Especially in one of the endings) The girl is awkward in a cute and attractive sort of way but my goodness the way she attempts to make a pass on the main character is aggressive even by today's standards and this takes place in 1986. She's even more rude than the male interest when dealing with her own situation and takes it unfairly out on the lead character. It's like the writers forgot how to write even though they did amazing with the other two characters. Overall, I'd say I would get this game when it's AT LEAST $10 or rent it. Not even worth $15 or above for such a very short and mid-effort game.

This game has bland game play. It' more akin to a walking simulator. It's very much story driven - designed to make you "feel." Plus there are technical issues throughout.

I olayed this on PC and this game is pretty good. Very relaxing, meandering and a tad quirky / campy. Def needed more conflict but its nice that it never really gets too intense. A beautiful change of pace if you live a fast paced life. Easy controls, graphics are decent for an indie, scenery is tranquil, storyline pretty good. Potential to be great, would love a sequel / another game from them
