The movie called The Butler was outstanding. To watch a child born and he see his parents working as slaves picking cotton and see his father shot in front of him was crazy. To see him run away and learn to be a butler and become one good enough to work in the White House was amazing along with serving so many presidents.

Had seen this movie when it first came out and I had to get it for my collection. Love this movie because it is based on the real life of a butler that worked in the WH for years.

Well written. Another amazing performance by Oprah Winfrey. Chronicles the fight for racial equality and the changes that have taken place in this country over the last 50 years. Specifically follows one family and the different paths they took in their quest for equality. Enjoyed it very much.

This was an excellent story and one that needed to be told. Love how it highlighted different eras and what was going on at that particular time. The acting was great and the characters were rich in depth. Disappointed that this movie didn't receive honorable mention or nomination at the Academy Awards!

I initially thought that this movie would be too controversial for me to watch; I don't like racially charged movies. I was ready to stop it after the first five minutes. However I continued to watch and was rewarded with an Oscar level movie with a great storyline and great acting. I rate four stars.

Addressing the changing politics of the Civil Rights era through the story of the White House butler and his family allows a variety of issues to be brought to life. Robin Williams as Eisenhower and Liev Schreiber as LBJ were particularly good, as was David Oyelowo as the son, Louis Gaines.

This is the story of a White House butler based loosely on the life of Eugene Allen who served as butler to many US Presidents. It tells the story of the US through the eyes of this butler and his family. I love the story. The writing was thoughtful and held my attention throughout. Great movie.

For those history buffs, this movie takes you through all the toil and turmoil of the thirties through the present period with a particular emphasis on Blacks and their place in America. Lee Daniels is an excellent story teller and who better than Forrest Whitaker to be the voice.

The Butler is a Historical epic movie. it should be seen by everyone, so helps to realize and/or remember the events of the history of the South, descrimination, etc. The Way the different US Presidents dealt with, plus the angle of the Butler thru the years. The acting is amazing as well.

3.5 star film A civil rights story told through the eyes of a slave who became a White House Butler that served 8 presidents, over 3 decades. The historical civil rights facts are somewhat spotty and disjointed but the movie shows how these changes affected this man’s life and family. I remember where I was on the dates of many of these events. Sentimentally told with an all star cast. Blu-ray 2.40:1 aspect ratio

This is a great movie that shows you theworld from two points of view. From the father and from his son. You see the life of a butler, a father, a husband, and overall a good hard working man. Really enjoyed this movie while some scenes made me cry. Glad to add this to my collection.

I saw this in the theater and really enjoyed the acting and the historical storyline involving the characters. Really enjoyed Forrest Whitaker, Oprah and the rest of the excellent actors, who portrayed the presidents (including Robin Williams) during the White House years.

Good informational entertaining movie. very well put together for a movie that provides so much information. Keeps audience engaged the entire time. The only part I didn't care for was the part about Obama in the end. Otherwise I would recommend it to anyone great movie.

I didn't realize when I purchased it how much of a role the civil rights movement would play in the movie. I believe that really enhanced the movie. There's lots of great vintage newsreel coverage and the movie is actually well written bringing a difficult topic to life.

There's a scene about halfway through Lee Daniel's "The Butler" that is perfect. African-American White House butler Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker) asks his boss, Mr. Warner, for equal pay for African American staff. They are paid less than white staff, he complains. The audience has been watching Cecil Gaines for a while now, and we know he is an admirable man. He certainly deserves equal pay.

This movie is NOT a 'Black' movie per se, but a movie that ALL should see! This movie depict just how strong the human spirit is when faced with adversity and how the human spirit can and will triumph no matter what one faces. Everyone should see this movie!

It was a very good movie and it teaches people about how hard things were for colored people with slavery going on. Lee daniels did a very good job and also oprah played a very good part. I would recommend this movie to anybody specially the younger youth of today.

I had heard that this was an excellent movie. I had seen a lot of movies starring Forest Whitaker. All that I had seen were excellent movies. This movie did not disappoint. Oprah Winfrey did a great job portraying the wife of "The Butler", Cecil Gaines
