If you've played other LEGO games and Disney Infinity then you will know exactly what you're getting in for. The game itself is just like the other LEGO games with destroying, building, collecting studs, and so on. The only difference is that characters and some stages are unlocked via figures purchased separately. Completionists will want to hide their wallets!

Really Fun Game for Most Ages

I have played a variety of the Lego video games (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.). This is my favorite of the bunch. It has good game play and some incredibly fun references to TV shows and movies. You add characters to play as by placing the physical Lego figures onto the "portal" (base station). The figures are both a pro and a con. On the bright side, it is VERY fun to play as a wide variety of characters (from Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters, Harry Potter, etc.). The options are fantastic. On the downside, those figures aren't free. You can easily spend a TON of money on this game (although the figures aren't widely available anymore). You can still have fun with the base game, and the main campaign is by far my favorite of any Lego game. Also, kids love this game!

    Good Lego game but...

...I am tired of needing to buy toys to life. I did the Skylanders thing for a while, and Infinity, and amiibos. Dimensions is my last toys to life game so maybe that is why I am a bit more bitter this time around. I have also played many lego games in the past with 80+ characters available from day 1 so I know they could simply put the characters in the game without needing the toys to be purchased. That being said, this game is fun. My son and I have enjoyed the use of the base in the gameplay. I've only bought a few extra figures (Sonic and Doctor Who mostly) so it sucks to have to 'pay' with studs to use certain characters but I guess it is better than simply not even having the option to use them without having purchased the figure. The game runs well on my xbox one but I did have some sounds issue the first day I played it. For some cutscenes, no audio would play. It was hit and miss that first day but since then it has played better. If you have kids that love legos, you can't go wrong with this game. Just be ready to not lose the figure bases because if you do you are SOL on using those characters in game. You can lose the figure but not the NFC bases they come with.

Lego Dimensions has all the humor built into similar to all the other Lego games we've played. The is a higher step up on the story line than Disney Infinity. The down side is that you aren't able to create worlds as you can with the infinity system. We prefer the extra polish on this system as it seems less stale than the infinity system. Just wish they had some of the Star Wars line in it.

I love the game and I got it for my 9 year old, she was excited and loved the game but when she realized that it was structured not a free for all in the beginning she wasn't interested in building each character and going through the story line to see if the world would open up. She loves her legos and her games so don't get me wrong but in the end she plays skylanders and disney infinity she hasn't picked this back up since day one leaving me to try and complete the story to see if there is an open world for her.

My son is not a big time (highly skilled) gamer, but he does play video games frequently. When I asked his least favorite Christmas present he named this product. When ask why and to explain, he said it was hard to play and when he got so far into the game he had a problem with advancing past a certain point. I am disappointed because I thought it would be great for him, combining his 2 favorite things, legos and xbox.
