    Good computer for basic tasks

Let me say this: if you want a computer to stream videos, edit a document, and have eight tabs open in your browser, then look elsewhere. This is not the computer for you. And don't even think of playing any serious games on this computer. Browser games maybe, but don't try any MMO's or FPS on this computer. If you want to run one or two tasks - say, stream a video and upload/edit some photos - then this computer will work great. It'll be slow, but not so slow as to be unusable. I like the large local hard disk - 1TB is plenty for what you'll be using this computer for. It comes with a media reader, which I use to upload and edit photos and videos from my cameras. It actually comes with a DVD player in case you still use DVDs. The computer is light and has a big screen and comfortable keyboard. There are some significant downsides. The default maximum volume is quite soft. This is quite annoying. I recommend a free utility like Equalizer APO (and the Peace GUI for Equalizer APO) to increase the loudness. That will of course distort the sound somewhat. So all in all, the sound on this machine is terrible. Fine for streaming videos; not recommended for music playback unless you like using headphones. Also, the keyboard has an odd layout, where the right-shift key is quite small and the page-up key has been pushed up next to it. You can overcome this with a keymapping utility, but it's annoying. Those are the only real downsides. If you manage your expectations and use this computer for one or two things at a time, then this is a terrific computer for its price. No one bought this computer for me or paid me for this review. I bought this with my own money after doing a bunch of research on computers at this price range. I knew going in what it would be capable of and it met those expectations.

Decent, Basic Laptop with ONE Big Issue

First off, for all those complaining about this laptop not being very fast, please! - It's a very inexpensive and basic laptop. It's designed to accomplish the most pedestrian of tasks (i.e., reading email, surfing the web, writing a Word document, etc.) . From my experience, it does all these task perfectly fine. Startup is a bit slow, but that is expected, especially when you load it up with memory resident software (i.e., Adobe, Anti-virus, Dashlane, etc.). Once it's up and running, things are great. Bottom line, if you want a snappy, responsive unit, do your research, drop the extra cash, and buy a laptop that meets your lofty expectations! Now,as to the ONE BIG ISSUE - The keyboard layout is terrible! They set the direction keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) under the Enter key where the Shift key should be. The Shift key is right next to the Up key, "shifted" further to the right. (No pun intended). The result is constant mistyping because you constantly are hitting the Up key instead of the Shift key. I have no idea what rocket scientist at Lenovo decided this was a good design, but they should be shown the door immediately. From what I've read so far, Lenovo's response is to install a keyboard tweaking app. That's just plain sad. A company shouldn't have to offer that you search online for a free app to compensate for a really, really poor design.

Best Buy Customer Service: Great; This Laptop:Ugh

Sound - I didn't think this kind of sound quality existed in this decade. The sound is so bad it's like listening to a tiny portable radio you won at a county fair in 1982. The only thing missing is static. Smartphones are superior in sound quality. If you like streaming Netflix without subtitles, expect to purchase a supplemental speaker. Keyboard - It's funky. I've hit the numbers lock key in my quest for backspace more often than I care to admit. Coud be just me getting accustomed to the numbers pad. Speed - Pretty much that of elementary school children being asked to run a mile. I actually think this laptop is silently complaining, "Do I have to? But that's so far! I'm tired!" It's still working on downloading Office as I write. I presume Flintstone technology is responsible for this as some overworked prehistoric micro pelican slowly pushes the processes along. I'm not sure how anyone could be satisfied with this device. Who on earth only uses a computer to read email and browse the web? I can tell you who: the generation who will accept without question advice to purchase a $1200 model. My mom would think I'm being way too picky if she sat down with this. If you're opening multiple tabs as you sink down the Internet rabbit hole with Netflix and Messenger on in the background, this isn't for you. A Macafee update alone brings the entire system back to 1998; those good old days we in Gen X like to refer to as "when it took web pages 15 minutes to load." This thing is brought to its knees until it finishes its updates. At most I'll give it a 2 as something reasonable enough for a child to use for homework. Or maybe even just for my mom. The sound thing alone would insult a small child. Best Buy's return policy has dramatically improved since I last shopped there, and this is going back. I'm giving a huge thumbs up to both that, and the guy at the Minnetonka, MN location who tried to gently encourage different options as I stood in the aisle paralyzed by analysis paralysis. I let the cost make my decision for me, and now that I've used it I would say a reasonable price is about $80.

A decent laptop on the budget

So I purchased this in store and got it a bit cheaper since it was an open box. It also went on sale for $80 less, so it was quite a bargain. The low price point was one of my main reasons for purchasing. Off the bat, it's got a good amount of screen real estate. The resolution isn't the greatest, but I found it adequate for my needs. I was looking to get a supplemental PC that I could be mobile with to do typical office stuff; check email, browse the web, type word documents, watch videos, etc. For the average person looking for something to handle everyday tasks, it's great. It's fairly light, has a decent battery getting me roughly 5 to 6 hours of light work, around 3 for stuff like watching movies or wireless streaming to other displays. I haven't had any issues with Windows 10, the i3 makes running programs zippy. 1TB of HDD space is nice, even though I wouldn't use it all given its a laptop. The full size keyboard is nice, and the keys have a good pressure resistance. Typing is not really noisy like some other keyboards, so it's good there. I like how it has integrated Bluetooth. Didn't ever overheat on me, even when I had it sitting on a blanket for long periods. Overall, it's a great deal for those on a budget. Now for some of the things I don't like about it, which aren't much. For one thing, I don't like how the right shift key is half it's normal size. I'm a right handed person and I tend to use the right shift key a lot when I type, so having it's normal size split to make room for the up arrow key irritates me. It's not too big of a deal, just something that irks me about the keyboard. The speakers suck, they just totally suck. It's not so bad though since you can just connect some headphones wirelessly, problem solved. The login screen has a delay when you power up, a little annoying having to wait when you're so used to instant logins like your phone. That's pretty much all I disliked. If you can snag this for under $200, it's worth it in my opinion.

Bought this similar computer G50-80 ,different number , exact same specs . First one preloaded with Windows 10 . Had problems from the start . After using the computer for 30-45 mins. you would lose total control of the cursor/pointer . You would move it and it would go wild , some times it even moved on its own . Sometimes refreshing the computer would help , but most times you had to shut down the computer completely . Asked at Best Buy geek squad and said it was probably the touchpad driver from Windows and hopefully there would be a fix for it shortly . Well after waiting 8 months with no fix , I started checking forums . On Lenovo's own forum there were many people with the same problem complaining Lenovo won't do anything about . One person said after numerous try's to fix it and many calls they finally replaced it . Filled a work order , Lenovo tried 3 or 4 times on line to fix it and said it was fixed . NOT . Then I had to send it in , costing me $18 , got it back , fixed ? . NOT . Still Lenovo refused to replace it . Wanted me to send it in again , Told them only if they sent me a prepaid box which they did . Got it back saying it was fixed for sure . NOT , lasted all of 15 mins. before the cursor went wild again . I was so frustrated I went back to my 6-8 year Acer which works great yet . Got the Lenovo out yesterday after a month or so hoping that the ghost that possessed had left , still doesn't work . So I guess I'll put in another work order , don't know what else to do .Over a year of frustration . Pretty sad that Lenovo has such POOR customer service . I think it would be cheaper for them to shut down their poor functioning service centers and just replace there defective products .I am in the market for a new desktop , needless to say it won't be a Lenovo . So a warning to everyone , make sure you return you computer to Best Buy within the 15/30 days you can because if you have problems don't expect Lenovo to stand behind their products .

Purchased this computer directly from best buy for my father to replace his 5 year old Toshiba laptop. My father is a very light PC user only using this computer for internet browsing and VLC media player to watch movies, That is it. Its been 87 days since purchase. Here are the PROS: (1) Battery is pretty good lasting an average of 3 hours and 8 minutes on a full charge with the screen brightness turned all the way up. Here are the CONS: (1) Screen brightness is always turned all the way up or one notch from full brightness. If you try to use a lower brightness setting screen is very dim and hard to see text. Laptop would be completely useless in a outdoor direct sunlight environment. (2) In 87 days laptop has frozen up and and completely stopped working during simple web browsing tasks on 2 separate occasions. Attempting restart after lock up took every bit of 9 minutes. On a good day this laptop is still slow taking an average of just over 2 minutes to start up and 1.5 minutes to shut down. To compare I have other PC's 3-4 years older then this laptop that only take 20-30 seconds to start up and shutdown. (3) The speakers are a complete JOKE! The battery is positioned where the speakers should be. Then lenovo had the bright idea to put the speakers under the front of the laptop sort of firing downward. Speakers are hard to hear even when turned up and sound very tinny. (4) Its a small issues but I am never a fan of computers with non removable batteries like this laptop. I looked all over and see no release for the battery. CONCLUSION: My fathers 5 year old toshiba laptop runs WAY better then this brand new lenovo. I am 100% disappointed with the performance of this computer. I will be calling lenovo warranty support first thing in the morning to see about sending this laptop in for some sort of repair.

This device obviously should not be freezing up. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. Regarding the audio on this device, here is a link to an article with tips for increasing the volume of your speakers on a Windows laptop:
https://www.itechtics.com/increase-maximum-volume-windows-8/. The battery is replaceable only by a certified technician, so as to not void the warranty. lenovo

For the ultra-budget shoppers, this is a great laptop. You can get it for as little as $250 ($225, if Best Buy has their VISA Checkout promotion). And honestly $250 is the most I would pay for this for a few reasons: first, it is a Core i3, 6th generation no less. Core i3 is good, and will be good for the intended party (mother), but for most parties it is not sufficient. Second, the design. The build is 100% cheap plastic. You had better make sure you never drop this laptop. And there is no quick-access panel to access to the hard drive or RAM slot for upgrades, the whole bottom must come off, which includes a screw beneath the keyboard. Third, some of the specs had their corners cut - Bluetooth 4.0, ethernet is only 10/100, 640x480 webcam, 768p screen resolution. Fourth, all the Lenovo budget laptops have a horrible keyboard design - the UP arrow key cuts right into the LEFT PART of the right shift key, the numpad is a bit thinned and the space between the numpad and the QWERTY keyboard is limited so you it is sometimes hard to feel the division. Fifth, the battery is built-in, non-removable. In 2-3 years, the average age for a LiON battery, you won't be able to simply replace the battery, you will need to replace the whole computer. Yeah, tons of downside, but, if the intended user is low maintenance and non-technical, you can't go wrong for $250. As far as the upside? For a super-budget computer, the following items are very nice to have: a full HDMI port, a decent screen, unlike some budget laptops which have a single RAM slot and max out at 16GB this laptop has 4GB built-in plus a RAM slot letting you max out at 20GB, the RAM is DDR4, it is light (as far as I feel) and thin, the Wi-Fi is AC capable.

My wife and I were looking for a new laptop as our Dell went "black screen" on us and was just too expensive to replace with the same model ($850.00)+! So we decided to purchase the Lenovo Ideapad 110 ($330.00+). It worked GREAT for all of 12 day's! I tried to turn it on in the morning when I got up, NOTHING!!!, not even a flash. It was fully charged (been charging all night! I tried several times to get it to power up but no luck. Also, you cannot remove the battery to even try a hard boot! Maybe I got the one exception because when it was working, it worked GREAT!!! All I know now is I lost about 200 family photo's and a Norton subscription ($80.+). BestBuy told me for only $35-50 they could "try" and recover my pics but I'm out the Norton software no matter what and there would be no guarantee they could recover my pics either but it would still cost me the tech charge!!!!!!! I was able to recover my Dell with the help of my Niece so I think I'll just wait until it dies completely before I buy another laptop and NOT likely at BB. I would warn anyone who buy's a laptop in the $300-400 range, DON'T download any personal or other pro. that cost YOU until you've had it at least a month!!!!!!!!!

I was excited to make my 2nd purchase of a Lenovo when I come across this one tonight. The price fit my budget so I bought it. After spending about 3 hours getting all my items situated that was needed, I started tinkering around. As I was searching the net I noticed that the speed is not as fast as the pc I am replacing, much lag while trying to play a youtube video and the sound is terrible!! I was extremely disappointed in the sound. I have also noticed there is a sound that is coming from the fan area on the bottom. It is not loud but not something that I am use to. Not sure if this is just part of the pc or if I have gotten a defected PC. I have had this PC for 4 hours now and already thinking I may have to return it. Not fond of the keyboard set up either as it is MUCH different than any PC I have ever used.

    Solid Lower Mid-Range laptop

This Lenovo laptop has features which move up from the entry level area, and firmly into to Mid-Range area. Starting with the Intel I3 CPU, you are moving up from the Celeron and basic Pentium processors. It has a full size 5.6 inch screen (non touch the models I've purchased) and a full 1 TB Hard Disk Drive, Minimal RAM of 4 GB is adequate for most people, but if you are going to multi-task with several programs open at once, consider a laptop with at least 6, if not 8 GB of RAM. It's built like you'd expect from Lenovo, solid, but still with plastic bottom cover and plastic Screen cover. All in all, if you are looking at a solid mid-level (not entry level) this is a good choice. To move up to the next level of laptops (Upper-Midlevel to lower Upper-End) it needs more RAM, an SSD instead of a mechanical Hard Drive, and composite or metal case coverings. It will handle anything that someone who just wants a solid machine, will throw at it. As for someone who just wants to browse the internet and read emails, this is a great machine, although you might help your budget looking at an entry level machine. However, we never recommend entry level machines unless price is your main factor in choosing a laptop.

It's light. It's cheap. It works. The build quality looks disgusting at first glance but you grow out of it. Just make sure to take good care of it. It looks like it can break being dropped from the height of an inch tall hahah. The power button is lame... It takes about one small tap and it might turn on or off on you whichever one is more inconvenient. Having no detachable battery pack threw me for a loop. To take off the battery, if it were to ever go out on you requires removal of numerous parts. Usually batteries last a very long time before it goes bad but yea... it is going to be annoying to replace. Don't expect the laptop to handle lots of load... Opening 5 tabs on the browser and using Adobe Reader already stresses the system. It can play League of Legends on its highest settings no problemo--just a tip to anyone who is wondering if they can play the game on this laptop. Yea... this laptop is a great buy if you need it to just get you through college. No need for some heavy, fancy, pricey laptop that you carry everyday through miles of walking from class to class just to get you tired and sore. Knowing most college students, we get out of breath just climbing stairs....!

This laptop replaces a 2 year old Lenovo that was lagging when it came to online games. This unit keeps up just fine. My only complaint is the power cord. I realize eliminating the 120v portion of the cord saves the most money (versus the 12v cable, which is much smaller in diameter), but eliminating the entire 120v cord kinda sucks. The two, 120v prongs are built into the converter, which is a bit larger than a deck of cards; consequently, plugging it in to a power strip means you have to cover two outlets. It's short too - only 6' of 12v cord. Solution is to buy a dedicated extension cord, so not the end of the world, just irritating. Setup was easy/uneventful and was online within just a few minutes. For the price, hard to beat,

The salesmen were very complimentary about the Levono ideapad 110, although I am not so sure I would agree with them. It is OKAY. But I have been disappointed by how slow it is (just as slow as my old Toshiba). Also, the keyboard has been difficult to get used to. The biggest key change that has caused me irritation is the right hand shift key. I am used to a long one that my pinky finger can reach easily. Instead, this shift key is small and I often hit the page up button by accident. Also the Page up and down and the home and end keys only move you once space unless you also press the Fn key. Another thing I wish I knew...the laptop comes with a security system of its own, yet we were encouraged to also purchase the trend micro security. Trend Micro is fine, but why did we have to buy it if the laptop already came with something? (and when I installed trend micro it forced me to uninstall the other......When I called geek squad about it I was told that most likely this other system was only a 30 day thing anyway.) Overall and despite my complaints, it does the job.

Bought this to replace a Lenovo G560. Other reviews had expressed concern about the right side of the keyboard (shift key) being awkwardly placed. They are correct. If you are a two handed typist that does not look at the keyboard it is not at all where it belongs. The older G560 by comparison has it right. (The keyboard is my reason for 4 stars) Beyond that, from my limited use so far, Pro - storage (1TB), expandable memory, nice display resolution, CD drive built into unit. SD card reader. Numeric keypad. Hinges for display seem solid. Con - only 2 USB ports, and one gets tied up with a mouse dongle if you like using a wireless mouse/keyboard like I do. (The laptop has a built in Bluetooth - too bad the mouse can't be paired with that). No VGA output (yes it has HDMI, but, if you like using dual monitors and have an older one you will need a converter) I do not use it for gaming or the like, but it is doing great for everything I bought it for. It was on sale when I bought it and the combination of price and features was too good to pass up.

I went to the store twice to speak to a Best Buy professional and read tons of reviews before making my purchase. I bought the laptop for my mom for Christmas to replace her old desktop. She only uses the computer for general web surfing, photos, and email. Within three weeks of very light use, the wifi icon displayed a yellow caution with "!" In the center. She brought me the laptop and after running a few tests I received the result that "ip address wasn't valid". I found this odd as I had tried to connect through several different wifi providers. After a few hours and reasearch I was able to find instructions on how to correct the problem. The steps were quick, easy (ipconfig/repair), and it did fix the issue. However just a day later I attempted to go online and the problem had returned. I followed the same steps once more and the issue was again corrected. I'm giving this device 3 stars because if my mom has to complete these actions each time to gain access to wifi, then there is a real problem.

Keyboard and Sound Quality Ruin Overall Experience

    Posted
    Candaliz

I read the reviews and thought that I could make the adjustments. I was wrong. The keyboard is designed with the shift key shortened and the up arrow moved next to it to the left. Bad, really bad design. I pulled up typing exercises to try and overcome it; did not work. The shift key is so far over to the right, that every time you try to capitalize any key on the left, you can't help but miss the shift key, hit the up key, and move up the page. Messes up the entire document. I returned the computer after calling the company and being told there was nothing they could do about it. However one review also has an answer from the company suggesting that there is an app that can change the function of individual keys; this review was not available to me when I purchased the computer, it was posted after I returned it. Also the sound was very low, I tried to boost with some luck, however the sound never stayed up for very long. Too bad, I will never try Lenovo again.....

With regard to the right shift key issue you mention, there is a free software APP called KeyTweak that may help you. You can switch the key functions of specific keys on your keyboard with this software, so you could change the right shift key with the key you hit in its place. Just Google search "KeyTweak" and you will find articles about what the software does and you will find the download location for this free APP. lenovo

    Running 12GB of Memory

Didn't notice it was 4GB onboard memory. Purchased an 8GB module thinking it'd replace a single 4GB module inside. Once opened, noticed the ram slot was empty. Worried it wouldn't work with the 8GB module but thankfully it did. System Properties says 12GB of memory and no issues since install. Purchased this memory: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/crucial-8gb-2-1-ghz-ddr4-sodimm-laptop-memory/5420803.p?skuId=5420803 Used this Lenovo install guide: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_110-14_15isk_hmm_201607.pdf Level of difficulty of the ram install: Easy, 3 out of 10 difficulty Bought this as a going to college gift for my sister and she loves it. Great for normal college work and casual use. Highly recommend the laptop.

Hard to dissassemble, slow hard drive

I purchased this product earlier this morning. However, I received one with a defective hard drive. Upon purchasing the system, the hard drive was particularly slow, and within two hours, the hard drive stopped working completely. I tried clean installs with no success booting into the Windows setup and linux installations crashing. Normally, I send defective products back, but I had already planned on replacing the hard drive. I purchased an ssd, and came to realize that the system was harder than many to disassemble. Once the hard drive was replaced, the system performed really excellently. The only two downfalls of this system are the slow hard drive, and the disassembly processs and difficulty finding instructions. I do have to say the system has decent connectivity and a pretty good processor for the price. I would recommend this system for those who can replace the hard drive, and not spend the extra $300 for a comparable system with the ssd preinstalled.

This is a great product for the money. Lenovo makes good computers with the only downside being if you have to put them back to factory default, you will have to reload some of the drivers manually. Not a big deal, as they provide them for you, just time consuming. Just hope I don't have to do that. With that bit of info aside, Lenovo makes a good product and this computer would be a great value for anyone that doesn't want to do gaming, a lot of graphic intensive work or things of that nature. For normal every days stuff, email, and surfing the internet, this is a great buy.
