I bought this not mainly for gaming, but a nice, reliable, productivity laptop. This AMD based entry level gaming laptop is a very nice deal for the price I got it at. (649.99 before tax) I added a m.2 Samsung EVO 250GB SSD because the boot time was pretty bad (50 seconds sometimes). If I could go back I would probably purchase the Intel based Y700 but it does cost significantly more. It includes an SSD, twice the ram, and a touch screen. After adding the SSD (costed $90 on Amazon) it ran me to $800 after taxes. For the price this is a very nice laptop. (Compared to $1000 for the Intel) I have no regrets about buying this laptop and would recommend it to friends.
Pros:
- Handles most games well on "high" settings
- Backlit, nice functionality keyboard
- Looks sleek and high end
- Will handle anything the average consumer can throw at it
- Easy to open, expandable storage via m.2 slot, expandable RAM to 16GB.
- CPU Boost really works - 3.2 GHz
Cons:
- Fingerprint Magnet
- Heavy (~5lbs)
- CPU and GFX not replaceable (soldered)
- Will get quite hot if not kept on flat surfaces while doing resource intensive tasks
- The CPU throttles itself out of the box due to OEM settings. Google how to change the throttle settings to get maximum performance.

I was skeptical to buy this at first due to past experience. I had a Lenovo Y40 that had a screen issue which Lenovo fixed under warranty. I saw this at Best Buy's website and it was on sale for $829. A lot cheaper than what's on another website. Especially that it's a Best Buy only model. A few days later and it was on ad for $699. Needless to say, I got a refund of the difference.
Now on to the performance. This laptop is fast as it is. Although I replaced the HDD with an SSD. With a quad core processor FX-8800p (top-tier Carrizo APU) and a Radeon R9 M380, this thing is fast! More than enough for what I need. Even got a free game from AMD for that!
Also came with a portable DVD Drive so that's a bonus. Screen resolution is excellent. Backlit keyboard has a bit of a learning curve due to the fact that some keys are smaller. The touchpad is responsive and has a satisfactory click. The JBL speakers and subwoofer sounds great.
In summary, it's a great laptop especially if you can get it on sale. AMD has done a great job on getting up to par with Intel. Buy it! Thanks Best Buy for this great value!

I have had the laptop for over a month now, and i have to say that is one of the best ones i have ever owned. The specs are great. The processor runs well and the graphics card works great when i am playing my games such as Ghost Busters, Burnout Paradise and Minecraft. The price is great too. It runs quiet when using it for basic things and the fan can get loud with more demanding games. But it is not to the point that it gets annoying. Also, the battery life is pretty good. I am very pleased. I did want to point out that the first one I bought, the fan was running at a more constant rate and was a bit louder, so I returned it. The second one I have runs quiet and works like a champ. I also noticed that there was a difference between the two. The first one that I returned had a rubbery feel to the keyboard, while the new one I kept, has the typical laptop keyboard feel. They may have revised the laptop hardware.

This is the best laptop I have owned. I have owned a Surface RT, Surface 2, Surface Pro, HP DM1z, HP DV6-7245US, and have used other models in my home extensively, including HP Envy 14t-2000 and HP Envy 13t. This laptop offers the best keyboard of all the aforementioned machines, which isn't surprising considering it comes from the same company responsible for the world-renowned ThinkPad series. There is absolutely no flex at the base of this machine, tactile response is full and deep, and 2 stage backlight that screams AMD Inside is a wonderful premium touch.
The 1080p matte screen is another premium touch. Compared to my girlfriend's glossy Full-HD panel on her Yoga 700(also bought from BestBuy) this IPS panels allows for great daytime use from various angles. As many reviews point out, the color accuracy isn't quite there, but next to my ASUS VG248QE 144hz gaming monitor, the difference is negligent for anyone but the most particular photo editors and creative image professionals. Movies and pictures look great and there is no heavy stutter: very smooth for a 60hz panel. The brightness on the panel is quite good. I cant say how many nits of brightness without proper equipment, but for everyday use and entertainment purposes it is more than enough.
The speakers on this laptop are one of its strongest points. I had not before heard this amount of fullness and clarity on a portable computer. Definitely a win from JBL and Lenovo.
When it comes to processing power, the AMD FX-8800p delivers. I've had no issue opening several Windows Edge tabs while watching youtube videos, running Microsoft Office, Groove, and browsing the marketplace. For day-to-day task, this 8gb quad core PC can handle whatever you throw at it. If there is one major drawback it comes from the 5400 RPM hard drive installed. SSD's are cheap now, and I happen to have a spare SanDisk lying around so I won't dock a star for this. Keep in mind this laptop has an open M2 PCIE slot open for faster SSD's, something that doesn't come standard on most laptops.
Gaming on this computer is not something I have tested as I bought this primarily for general use while on the go. I have a custom built AMD Phenom II( I know, old school) rig that takes care of gaming for me. As many sites will point however, gaming on this thing shouldn't be an issue as long as you are tethered to power. There is really no reason to game from the battery as this machine benefits from Switchable R9 graphics that kicks in when connected to an outlet and gaming. Most sites are reporting 50+ frames per second on the most modern games in Medium settings. Bioshock Infinite runs at 39 FPS in ULTRA settings as reported by gaminglaptopsjunky.com. Upgrading to dual channel 2100mhz ram is also shown to improve FPS. I'll try to post my own frames once I get an SSD and dual-channel ram on this thing(might take a while, because, well, college student fatherhood).
This leads me to my final point: Battery Life. Most reviewers point to a 5-7 hour battery life, which is respectable for high-end machine of this size. My experience seems to agree with those results, although lowering the brightness levels and switching to battery saver mode is sure to squeeze another hour and a hald of runtime.
Many reviews for the Y700 focus on the Intel/Nvidia version of this laptop. While the obvious is that if you're looking for a serious gaming machine the likes of Alienware or MSI, Intel is the way to go, I want to point out that much of the gripes reviewers have against this laptop, namely cooling issues and subpar battery life on i7 models, are virtually eliminated with FX version. AMD's is a more efficient, albeit less power machine that produces less heat and can go longer on charge. If that isn't enough for you, consider that I paid a total of $590 for this machine through BestBuy's open-box program(Go to their eBay store and you might find a little surprise when it comes to sales tax).
Honestly, for the money, this Y700 is absolutely perfect. For the retail price of $800 plus tax? I might chop off a star for mediocre 5400 rpm hard drive. But seriously, just buy it already. And one last thing, this is a five pount laptop that is very sturdy and well-built for its size. If youre looking for an ultrabook type of deal I highly recommend the Yoga 700. That's it for me. Thanks BestBuy.

Prior to purchasing this Laptop, I had a Lenovo Edge 15. It came with an I7 5500U and a GT940M GPU.. I kept having problems with it so I somehow got my money back and bought the Lenovo AMD Y700 gaming laptop. A lot of people are critical of AMD and will only purchase PC's with Intel CPU's and NVidia GPU's so I was a little nervous. (But I am very pleased.) The Y700 with the AMD FX8800P is just as fast and responsive as the Edge 15 with the dual core I7 5500U, Truth be told Its faster and multi tasks better being that the FX8800P is a quad core threaded into 8. Also the R9 385X is much better than the GT940M GPU that the Edge came with.. People on line don't rate the R9M385x much higher than the GT940M or the GTX950M.. But it is, Its pretty close to gaming with the GTX960M. I went from playing games on low to mid settings with the GT940M to playing on mid to high and even on Ultra high with some games! And both Laptop's cost the same price... I am very pleased.. Its nice to be able to game on mid, high, n Ultra settings for around $800.00 on a laptop and I hear that it's only going to get better once games start coming out in DX12! (You used to have to spend $1200.00 to $1500.00 to get this kind of quality and performance out of a laptop.) Lenovo and AMD hit a Home Run!

Just one knock, and that was the slow boot up time, but once you delete all the unnecessary junk programs, it becomes a fast smooth, almost instant boot up. I love the screen, for a laptop, it is really clear. It plays all the games I have so far. WOW looks great, I downloaded STO just to see it,and how it plays, it was flawless. Great machine for the price.

This Laptop is not over powered but runs everything in my steam library just not all of them at the highest settings. It has a decent battery life of around 2-3 hours while gaming i am fairly certain it would last longer if i was not playing games on higher settings. Easily plays World of Warcraft on Ultra and handles other processes in the background or on a monitor while doing that. Nice Screen and HDMI port works well in fact my only two complaints i even understand and can not complain that much about. External disk drive and only 3 usb ports but if you get yourself a hub you should be golden.

Got this laptop for a really good price. Swapped out the hard drive for a SSD and added more memory. I completely reccomend doing that as the stock hard drive is slow . It can handle most games up til the latetest ( which can run okay with the lowest settings which will hopefully change when directx12 becomes more commonly used in games )

I bought this computer because my old one was dying. I chose this one because it's marketed as a gaming laptop and I was looking for good performance for some computer games I play. First, let me say that the graphics are awesome. They're very crisp and look really great. However, the computer itself is a bit on the slow side. It is noticeably slower than my old i7. Also, the computer's fan is very noisy when I'm playing an intensive game (Sims 3 or WoW). It doesn't multitask well at all. Running a game and a webpage or two and skype really slows down the system. I suppose if I wasn't used to the speed of an i7 I'd be happier with it overall.
Long story short, it is a good computer for the price. The graphics are excellent but the system is a little slow overall.

I got this laptop to replace an aging Dell Latitude with an Nvidia NVS 5200M graphics card, as I was in the market for a newer laptop this caught my eye.
Now the graphics card, an R9 M380 (It's an R9 M385x as it works with the IGP) is quite potent at this price point, unbeatable even. I was weary on the CPU, it has potential I thought, so I went into it, knowing I have a return policy to back me up if all things turned south.
The booting up of this laptop is slow, the mechanical hard drive gives the impression that the system is older than it is, I HIGHLY recommend an SSD of sorts, it has a M2 slot inside to make life easier however.
The fit and finish is something I have come to expect from Lenovo, very clean and sturdy, though that build quality comes at the cost of being heavier than normal laptops but then again, it is a gaming laptop.
Gaming performance, this was a huge letdown for me. It would struggle in games like World of Warcraft on native res, even lowering it proved to not matter much, this meant that the GPU was giving it's all while the CPU was holding it back. I compared this laptop to the Dell with a 3rd gen Intel i5 with an NVS 5200M, it gave the Lenovo a run for it's money, in many scenes/areas in games like World of Warcraft, the difference was MINIMAL, some spots the Dell won out over the Lenovo, other times it was the other way around, to me this was unacceptable for a laptop that was 4 years old (that is of business nature even) to compete against it.
HOWEVER, it can run Witcher 3 on native res...but you will be struggling to get rates above 30 unless you REALLY tone down the resolution. I did not test beyond these two games, I returned it in frustration that my regular game that I played (WoW) was BARELY better on this $699 device.
The sound on this laptop is GREAT, the Sub-woofer gives sound and music soul where most laptops it sounds hallow and empty. The screen was nice as well, I have no complaints there.
What annoyed me to no ends is that Lenovo chose to setup the CPU at 15W when it is capable of being set anywhere from 12w-35w, this in my opinion, is why I got the poor performance, a lower TDP configuration.
In essence a nice laptop if you have basic games to run but anything that stresses the CPU will see it hitting it's limits far sooner than you would like to, I wish they configured it like the Intel models, their i-series CPU"s are are their regular configs, why did they configure the AMD variant lower?

System is amazing for what my wife and I bought it for, wide screen amazing graphics very fast processor doesn't have anything on it just a virus protector not the one that came with it never heard of it so I don't trust it no offense. So naturally the system runs flawlessly. Windows 10 was easy to get used too. the reason for 4 stars nothing deserves 5 simple fact although the price was decent it will be obsolete in 2 years when we can make products that are built to last that's when I will give 5 stars until then 4 is great.

I spent a lot of time researching various laptops before settling on this one. I had originally planned on building a custom one from CyberpowerPC, but when my budget shrunk, I began looking elsewhere. After reading the reviews for this Lenovo laptop, I took the plunge and bought it.
It's definitely a great gaming laptop if you're on a smaller budget. I run WoW on ultra settings with decent FPS, 15-25 or so. Turning down some settings a bit will make FPS jump up, of course. I had to update some drivers and remove some bloatware, but other than that I've had no problems straight out of the box, in getting it up and running.
As other reviewers have said, the case is a definite fingerprint magnet. The DVD drive is also external, which I didn't realize. Not a dealbreaker, but a small annoyance I wish I would have noticed before I bought it. The red backlit keyboard is awesome, I really like that. Sound is great. Comes with Windows 10, which I'm still on the fence about. Took me forever to find things I normally use, but that's not the laptop's fault.
Overall I would definitely recommend this laptop for gamers on a budget.

I originally purchased an Asus 2-in-1 with an i7, 12gb ram, 2gb dedicated graphics and it had so many issues. This Lenovo blows that Asus out of the water. Only thing I wish it had was a SSHD instead of the standard 5400rpm but ive been told I can swap for SSHD.
