You can make this laptop great again

I've experienced why this laptop received some poor reviews. However it's possible to make this a very good machine. A few things: BIOS. Absolutely update to the latest BIOS. As of now the latest was released 4/26/2016. Intel HD 520 Display driver. Use the driver located on the Lenovo support page for this laptop. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-Edge-Series-Laptops/edge-2-1580?tabName=Downloads&linkTrack=Mast:SubNav:Support:Drivers%20and%20Software|Drivers%20and%20Software&beta=false Doing the two things above will solve the sleep/wakeup problems. Mine has worked flawlessly after doing this. For the 940m Nvidia card, I just use the latest drivers from Nvidia. WiFi drivers. Use the latest drivers from Intel's web site. You may want them pre-downloaded before updating to the latest version of Windows 10 because you will lose WiFi. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25833/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-10?product=86068 The 5400 RPM stock hard drive is a joke. completely ruins the experience of what should be a fairly speedy machine. A SSD is a must. This laptop deserves a solid state drive. It's the most dramatic improvement in performance you can make. You can get a 480GB SSD for about $100 these days. This particular Synaptics trackpad seems be fairly common across a wide range of laptop brands. The size and feel isn't my favorite, but it is very customizable. I lowered the sensitivity of mine a lot. If you find this on sale for a very good price, or find a great open box deal then it's worth it. Simply because (in my mind) you need to factor in the cost of buying a SSD.

I honestly though that considering this product has mixed reviews, it wouldn't be as decent, but no!, I was darn happy with this product. Bought it during the savings event back in April and the price for a laptop like this during the event was nice! Bought it for 650 bucks when the original price was 920$ back then. Noticed some complained about the Internet connections, not to sound mean, but you should check your internet cable/provider. :) Pros: -Good for gaming(The graphics card in this laptop was released back in May 2015) -Connects to wifi well -Good for editing -The speed of this product is good:) considering an I7 processor should provide a decent performance for this product. -1 TB hard drive is nice - For multitasking, it's ok Cons: -Occasional black screen(rebooting it should help.) -Could use more rams, but 8gb of RAM should be fine -When you first use the laptop, it may start off slow, but performs at the level it should be at when you use it more often. -Occasional disconnects meaning it may log or shut off by itself -When using fingers, it may not respond at times.

    Great 2-in-1 laptop

Start off saying that Lenovo wasn't one of the first brands I go to when looking at laptops. But the sale and other deal I had made this laptop too good to pass up. Even without my other deal, this laptop is packed with the latest generation Intel i7, and most importantly, a dedicated video card with its own 2GB of memory, something I wasn't seeing at its price($849.99). I have tried playing games on my old laptop with integrated graphics, and having the discrete card on board makes a huge difference in gameplay. Its not enough to play the latest games at max settings, but will give you a more enjoyable experience. Touch works great, though it seems that the first touch doesn't register, but that could still be me adjusting to this laptop's sensitivity. Screen rotates around to presentation or tablet mode very smoothly, and just in general is the best feeling motion I have had in a laptop. Haven't, but most likely will at some point, open up the case to upgrade the hard drive. And this will probably be my main complaint about the laptop. There is only one memory slot onboard, so the 8GB can only be swapped out for a single card with 16GB, and those are expensive. So, full metal case, except for the side where the ports are. Great looking FHD display. High-end processor with discrete graphics. And what I would say is the least amount of bloat I have seen on a laptop from Best Buy, this is definitely a laptop to look at.

I spent quite a lot of time researching for a new laptop and thought this was good for the price(after discounts) for my needs. However, knowing that the main issue with this laptop were driver issues, I thought I could work it out. I fixed a random audio popping issues and wifi constantly disconnecting from my home router. Unfortunately, the wifi issue carried over to trying to connect to my university wifi. It could be very well be the driver, but I was able to fix it to work with my router at home. At this point, I'm deciding to return it and look for a more reliable laptop with better battery life. Overall, when it does work, it looks great, probably feel better adding an SSD. Build quality is nice as well, but still tracking oil prints, so 3 stars.

I had problems with the screen staying black after waking. I also was unable to update the NVidia driver through the pre-loaded NVidia experience program. I checked for updates and found nothing through windows update. I was ready to return the laptop but decided to try one more thing. I went into the device manager and manually went through every one of the devices and checked for updated drivers. This approach resulted in about 12 device driver updates. Once everything was updated it performed flawlessly. I was still irritated that the NVidia experience kept saying it was unable to connect. I went to the NVidia website and manually downloaded the automatic updated program which replaced the malfunctioning NVidia experience program. Everything is working as expected now. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. It's a shame that a user would have to jump through those hoops, but it's well worth the 30 minutes that it took.

I bought this computer for my wife for her birthday and it's worked out just fine she had no problem setting it up and then using it every day since we've had it. I ended up getting it for her because I had ordered another laptop from another manufacturer who would let me down with a really bad customer service and when I walked into Best Buy this worked out just perfect. highly recommend

    Hardware and Windows 10 issues

Within a week of purchasing this device, I am having issues with the computer's sleep mode. The computer does not wake up after entering sleep mode. The only way to wake the laptop up is to do a hard reset by holding the power button. After the laptop gets turned on, programs run more slowly. This laptop isn't cheap. I find it very frustrating that it is already having these issues in regards to windows 10 bugs. I strongly recommend avoiding this brand if you are purchasing a laptop. I am certainly returning this device tomorrow. Please save yourself the hassle and don't buy this product!

This was perfect for me. I like to game and also browse through there Internet for personal and school use and this thing holds up for all of that good stuff. For the price you can't beat it! I did however get upset that the price lowered another $200 on sale when I bought it for full price the month before. If only I had waited.

    Terrible

I bought this computer to last me through my last semester of grad school in the architecture program. It met all my specs and was a 2 in 1 like I wanted. However, after only owning the product for 2 months I had to get it exchanged. Within those two months I had the intel graphics driver stop working on me (multiple times), the wireless driver not work properly causing my wifi to go in and out or not even recognize that wifi existed, then got the blue screen of death when opening photoshop due to the NIVIDIA graphics card, and finally the last straw being it started freezing every day for 4 days in a row when doing very simple tasks (such as surfing the web). Very dissatisfied with the product. Switched it out with an Asus 2 in 1 for $80 more and got 12GB of ram rather than 8 and it came with a sub-woofer. Don't buy Lenovo.

Xbox and nvidia do not work...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Straight out of the box (then again after $149 of Microsoft support: 2 reinstalls of windows 10, and a bunch of other things Microsoft did), the xbox box app doesn't work and I have also noticed the NVidia drive (says update available on start up) does not work. I have no clue what else doesn't work on this computer because I don't think I will bother to play with the other apps. Microsoft will contact me again today (they have already spent over 8 hours remotely controlling my computer), but now that I see someone else is having the same problem, I do not think they will fix it (or refund my money although they guaranteed a fix to my problem). DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP! If Microsoft level 2 techs couldn't fix their own OS on this computer then something must actually be wrong

    Do NOT buy Lenovo

I was a Lenovo fan, then I bought two of these laptops on within weeks of each other. They both failed in a number of ways, screen flashing, not waking up, HDMI port working intermittently. After hours with tech support, returned the first one to BB and got the second one. After a month it failed again and sent it for repair. 7 days later the Levono's website still tells me they never got it. When I call, they confirm they received it but can't tell me anything about it. No updates available. I can't accept that a company can have so many different points of failure. It is not just the hardware. Truly regret this purchase!

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo Edge 2. You may want to turn off automatic Windows 10 updates to your system. That way, you will get an alert when there is an update for your system and you can create a restore point on your device before you allow the update. lenovo

I got it for Christmas and I started to love it. At that time I would have gave it five stars. Soon, it started to get slower and slower till it couldn't be used without waiting. Then the wifi went out. So we took it to geek squad and they said that the driver was uninstalled. So he installed it for a bout an hour and it still didn't work. So he said it needs to got to Kentucky to get a new wifi adapter. He said it would take two weeks.so we sent it off and we got it back two weeks later. We got it back and it worked perfectly at the store. We brought it home and it didn't even show any wifi networks. This was the same problem we had at the beginning. So we went to Best Buy again and he said to just FORGET the networks that we use. So we did and it still didn't work. So we will be turning it in and getting a completely different computer. So if your looking for a computer to work for one months than get this computer. I'm not blaming anybody but the manufacturer.

The fact that your system worked well for a while indicates an automatic update occurred that caused conflicts. In the future, no matter the manufacturer, you may want to turn off automatic updates. You will get a notice when there is an update for your system. You can then create a restore point on your system before you allow the update. lenovo

I use an imac desktop, pc laptops, and apple for other devices. I bought this machine b/c it was a steal for what you get: 1tb hdd, i7 processor, touchscreen, etc. I've been using this solely for schoolwork the last few weeks and I've encountered more problems that joys: Pro: 1. Nice display/graphics card 2. Great machine for kids or the technologically un-savvy who just need a browser and a few applications Cons: 1. Non-upgradeable RAM. This is my biggest gripe, especially when the sales associate explicitly told me that it could be upgraded. This laptop would actually have gotten a 4-5 star rating from me had I been able to upgrade to at least 16gb memory. Very unhappy with Lenovo's decision here. 2. Sluggish trackpad 3. SSD would've been nice, but you get what you pay for. 4. This is more of a Lenovo problem as a whole, but the charger design is a joke. TL;DR For the price, this machine will allow you to multitask basic tasks and is great for someone who's only looking to surf the web and complete schoolwork. Otherwise, I'd suggest anybody else turn around and find a machine better suited for your needs.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo Edge 2. With regard to your issues, upgradable RAM: The decision to go with 8GB of soldered RAM was to keep the system as slim as possible and to achieve a value price point with this system. The touchpad can be adjusted in the system settings. You can adjust the touchpad sensitivity and functions there. No SSD, again we were trying to create a value price point with this system an SSD would have taken us out of the target price range. As far as the AC adapter, it's just a standard AC adapter familiar across many brands. lenovo

    WiFi problems, Trackpad poor

Lenovo doesn't officially support Windows 10 for all components of this laptop even though it comes with Windows 10. After applying the Windows Updates after setup, the WiFi adapter would work for a short time and then completely disappear. Looking in Device Manager I would see that the device failed to start. Disabling and then enabling the device would bring it back for a period of time 2-20 minutes. Updating the device driver did nothing to help. After research it was pointed out that the November patches for Windows 10 aren't fully supported by Lenovo, including the wireless drivers (link below). How is that possible??? In addition the trackpad is touchy and inconsistent. Needless to say I returned it and will never buy another Lenovo! https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht104857
