    Decent enough for grad school

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My grad school program recommends PC laptops and only had my 2008 MacBook, now too slow and old for what I need even if otherwise working well. Was told Lenovo was the PC laptop brand to buy. It's decent but touch pad mouse is very sensitive and not a fan of Windows 10. Considering the specs of this, would think having an option to switch to Windows 7 or 8 would be available. When I bought it at BestBuy, was $899.99 and had $100 off coupon making it $799.99. By chance, discovered just 2 days before the 15 day window was up for price match, is now on sale for $799.99 with now $150 off coupon available. Just made it and got this for $649.99 (before tax). After practice and getting used to it, will feel it will grow on me.

Great Personal Laptop or Gaming Laptop

Overall Laptop is great, got it open box so was able to get a great deal on it. Pros; 15.6 " monitor, touch screen, Nvidia Graphics that can run World of Warcraft at high settings with 50fps. Con's The only thing is the touch pad for the mouse seems VERY sensitive, and you do not have to put as much pressure on it as other laptops. Took a little to get used to but I was able to adjust no problem. Aside from the touch pad, the laptop is a great buy, and any laptop now that has Nvidia graphics in it you're going to pay over $1000 with the same performance as this one.

    Black screen after opening lid

This laptop has a problem when put to sleep, in any forum or website I have found a real solution to this problem. Sometimes it works normal, but it is not what usually happened. After the black screen I am forced to keep the power button pressed until it turned off, and then after it I can turn it on again and works. Regarding speed, it is really good, maybe it will be better with another type of hard drive, it is 5400 RPM. I am thinking in upgrade it later.

    Decent Computer; Bad battery life

I had this computer for 7 months and it (just) gets the job done. Its not as fast as i expected it to be. Its almost always connected to the charger. I tried a few games on this laptop and sadly found myself using low quality settings to play. Over time simple things like browsing became so glitchy.

    Plenty of HD storage.

I bought this laptop to store my music catalog (1500+ CDs) digitally. The machine has a Terabyte of storage which the associate assured me will be plenty of space for 15,000 songs. He also suggested this laptop because it will transfer files faster than other laptops with similar storage space. (Note that I had to purchase an external CD/DVD drive separately.) Perfect machine for my needs.

    Returning it ASAP

Bought this based on recommendations from the sales team and after reading some fairly decent reviews. We've used it for a few weeks and unfortunately, we have not had good luck and it will be returned tomorrow. First, it's VERY slow to boot up. It takes about 3 minutes from the time I turn it on until the login screen appears. Then, for the past week, the wi-fi has been acting up and it's now impossible to make a connection. We had high hopes for this machine, but it's just not going to work out. Heading back to the store to buy a Mac. So long, Lenovo.

    Fall from Greatness

MOBO issue straight out of box. Sent in for repair, they replaced wireless radio, sent in again replaced the hard drive, it was returned with the technician note stating "file for a refund possible MOBO problem". This was the only brand we used at our business but now have had the last 2 Lenovo purchases fail miserably. Now I'm waiting 3 days to get "approved" for a refund, amazing. What happened Lenovo? The quality of your equipment is gone.

    Looks great but operates poorly!

I bought this computer and right off the bat, I notice two things... It ran slow and the wifi kept disconnecting. I fixed the wifi issues. The a new problem, the video graphic card was not working. Often I would set pixelated screen or half a screen that was in readable. So I found and installed the update to both the NVidia graphics card and also updated the Intel video driver. Yes, I thought that was the end of my troubles with this laptop, but no, new problems appeared. They keyboard and mouse stop working and the screen was upside down with only the touch screen and it's keyboard to use. A very frustrating set of developments for a $899 i7 Intel laptop. Sadly as these problems arose, it was way too late to return for a refund or exchange. So my next option, Lenovo's support. They were great at helping me around at fixing issues, like making changes to the BIOS, installing new/updated drivers, but my fear is at some point down road, this thing is going to go out again... A waste of the money I spent. I'd think with so many problems, they (BestBuy/Lenovo) would issue a recall and or allow for a product exchange. In time, I'll be stuck with a beautiful paperweight that looks like a laptop computer.

You may want to consider turning off automatic updates on your system. That way you can create a restore point on your system before you allow the update. You can also look for driver updates by following the link below to Lenovo.com support-drivers. Once again, be sure to create a restore point before making changes or downloading new software. Hope this improves your experience:

The screen, build and ergonomics for the laptop are superb. My only niggle is that it has a very slow startup time, Once the startup is finished, it runs great. I may be biased as my normal laptop has an SSD which speeds everything up.

Cheap Build, Unresponsive Inputs, Security Issues

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Seemed like a great deal -- discrete graphics card and an i7 processor for well under a $1,000. Found it for a great price at Besty Buy and the manager graciously gave me a free year of GeekSquad support. Was very excited and then immediately disappointed. The build looks nice with the brushed metal and backlit keys but once you get your hands on it you'll realize how cheap it feels. It's also heavy and bulky so I didn't feel safe taking it ANYWHERE. The trackpad is unresponsive and the hinges on the screen were so frighteningly weak I didn't even dare fold it back into tablet view for a few days. When I finally did, it was so uncomfortable I switched back and never used it again. One night I just started having a bad feeling about the computer and decided to take it back. The NEXT DAY I saw an article about Lenovo security flaws and guess what laptop was used as the image for the piece? The Lenovo Edge 2. Thank golly for BestBuy's return policy otherwise I'd be stuck with this piece of junk.

Needed to buy a new laptop because my old Lenovo running Vista was starting to die. Had good luck and was happy with my old Lenovo so went in and bought a new Lenovo expecting the same. Got it home, turned it on, it started a scan, found one unfixable item. Then it told me my warranty had only 267 days left. I found both of these items odd. Then the laptop went to sleep. There was no way for me to get it to recover from sleep mode other than to reboot. After multiple attempts and some internet research confirming others had the same sleep problem I returned it.

    XBOX app does not function

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I absolutely loved this 2 in 1, except for one fatal flaw: the XBOX app and Smartglass app do not work (doesn't work on display models, never worked on the device I purchased after a week of trying every possible remedy). I eventually had to return this device, but would buy it in a heartbeat if this issue was fixed.
