    Lenovo G51 Laptop

Lenovo - G51 15.6 Laptop - AMD A8-Series - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive Graphics memory goes to 4GB and will handle most demanding games. Good enough for work and play. The 1TB hard drive should sustain you for some time. One down side I found for me was the 4 cell battery. it doesn't last all day. Would recommend changing it to at least a 6-cell battery or more. Or use with an external battery top up for those who use their laptops on the road all day. Otherwise great if used where you can plug in after 4 hours by which time you should be taking a break from the screen.

Don't be fooled by those negative reviews!

I read these reviews before I bought this laptop and the most mentioned problem is BATTERY. BUT DON'T BE FOOLED BY THOSE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! Check your settings! If you TURN ON THE CONSERVATION MODE, THE BATTERY WILL ONLY CHARGE TO 55%-60% FOREVER!!! This mode is used to protect your battery and maximize the life of your battery if you like to plug in AC most of the time. THERE IS NO BATTERY PROBLEM. AMD A8 is powerful enough for daily users but not for gaming, don't expect a laptop with integrated graphics can run those big titles. As a person own a gaming laptop, surface, gaming desktop, this laptop is the best choice you can have if you use it only for office tasks and light gaming.

i read some bad reviews so naturally had mix feelings about the perchase but couldnt pass up the deal. **things to know: the computer does not come with word, excel ect. it comes with lenovo version which i didnt care for so i bought the service pack for students which isnt that much. thy sell them at best buy just ask someone for help if you cant find them. the default browser is microsoft edge which really really sucked and did not work lol. luckily it also comes with the regular internet explorer which you have to look for in your start menu but, once you find it just make a desktop shortcut and youll be good to go. Now you have internet explorer on your desktop so just click on that instead of useing the microsoft edge internet thing lol. or use internet explorer to download your own favorite browser i.e. firefox, chrome. i think this is why people said this laptop did not connect to the internet, they were probably trying to use microsoft edge instead of useing internet explorer. i cant blame them because like i said you have to actually go into the start menu and look for internet explorer in order to make a desktop shortcut so you can use that as you web browser instead of edge. this comoputer is great for casual use such as school work, browsing and downloading. has a 1tb hard drive which is great for saveing documenst, school work, or a whole bunch of music. the computer is fast and is responsive i personally havent had any problems with i, the screen looks really good and the sound is actually really good too i was surprised. i dont play games on this computer because this laptop was purchased specifically for school and just casual everday use.

    Best bang for the buck.

I have worked in IT for 18 yrs, and I bought this for my son for college. It is the best bang for the buck that I could find, even during the BlackFriday buying season. This is not a gaming laptop, so the A8 AMD cpu is perfect (imo). The 1366 X 768 display is considered HD but it is not the 1920 X 1080 which keeps the price reasonable. Its cons are: no touch screen, and no isometric joystick. Its pros: 1TB hard drive, 8GB ram, HD display, an AC network card, HDMI port, USB3 port, DVD drive, and the price. Durability and battery strength are yet to be seen, but Lenovo's seem to do well in both areas and replacement parts are available.

    Great Bargain Laptop

After 2 weeks of use: This Lenovo laptop with AMD A8, 8GB RAM, AC Wifi,, Bluetooth, HDMI for $299 can not be beat. Yes, it is not perfect (number key 0 is small, no backlit keyboard) but again, for that price and that listed hardware is a great buy. It also comes with very little Lenovo software with is a plus since that does not bog down the space taken or resources used. I kept tabs on a lot of laptops the past several months and others at this price came no where near the hardware this one has. A similar spec for this hardware price would be around $450 refurbished!! I understand this model is discontinued but if you are somewhat computer literate, that will not matter. Just keep your updates going and all should be fine. Again, I am very satisfied with this Lenovo laptop.

8GB of Memory and 1 TB Hardrive at a great price

I wanted a computer with 8GB of memory and 1 TB hard drive.....and I did not want to spend 399.00 or more for it....I paid 299.00 for this Lenovo....Even the guy who rang up my laptop....said to me....8 gigs for this price......This is the first time that I have the AMD PROCESSOR....I always had Intel Processors....so...far no problems....I read many reviews of this Lenovo laptop before purchasing....I was not thrilled that this laptop was not on display in Best Buy stores...I read reviews about the flimsy keyboard....and yes....it does move down...when I press certain keys on the keyboard...like the d key.....j key...r key...etc...not all of them...but some...not happy about it.....and it is not made as good as my old HP laptop....Everything is made cheap these days........but....for the money....you cannot beat the price for the 8 gigs....The power plug is cheaply made.......It works fine though.......This is my first Lenovo...prior to this ...I had an HP and a Dell....Many people buy this laptop....I should know...when I tried to get it.....there were no more at the stores near me...This computer is now on clearance...at 319.99....still a good deal.....They have a Lenovo on display for 399.00 with an AMD 10 PROCESSOR. in the store.........8 Gigs of memory and 1 TB hard drive......This laptop is an AMD 8...and was 299.00.....They do have other cheaper laptops...but not with 8 gigs of memory....and 1TB hard drive....The price and memory was the reason why I purchased this laptop.

    Very good computer

This is my first Lenovo. Just bought it today (11/28/15) because of the price and options. Don't know what kind of expectations the other folks have for this computer. But, or why they are having problems. I have had nothing but a good experience with the computer since I pulled it out of the box. It took a few minutes to get booted up the first time. But after that no problem. I will agree I'm a little disappointed that it didn't have a lot of software already preloaded. Otherwise I'm enjoying the computer.

Good value in a quad-core laptop

    Posted .

I'm guess most of the people who left negative reviews either don't know anything about computers or just like trashing stuff. For the price - I paid $300 - this has a quad-core processor akin to I5 and 8 gis of memory. Computer's fine for even more advanced work. I did remove some bloatware, but it's light-weight, large enough to replace a desktop, has a tone of storage and does more than a $1,000 laptop from two years ago would do. I suggested my daughter buy one.

    Bang for your Buck!

Solid laptop for the price. Does not really "feel or look" expensive by any means, DVD tray is flimsy, keyboard has a lot of flex, mouse pad is bad for scrolling (arrow down works fine) but overall this laptop runs great. Setup was smooth and fast. Does come installed with a lot of bloatware (perks of buying cheap) but that is an easy fix. Movies looked and sounded great (for the price tag), wifi works great, multitasking capabilities have been very good. Laptop is very quiet. I cannot find anything I don't like about this computer so far and anytime I find something that isn't "great " about this computer I just remember the price I paid for it and I'm happy again. Remember, you get what you pay for and this is a great buy, sure it's not top of the line quality, lightning fast and loaded with the best features but it's every bit worth the price! Thanks for recommending Best Buy! I'm a happy customer!

    Best for Casual User

    Posted .

Lenovo - G51 15.6 Laptop - AMD A8-Series - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive is a unique piece of hardware that require changes of setting to maximum the performance. I recommended that you go System Configuration>Boot>advance options>check the Number of processors to 4. Go to Task Manger and disable all the unnecessary software from start up. And finally turn off the Advance System setting> Performance> check the adjust for best performance. My overall review for this laptop, it has a lot of extra add-on including Bluetooth, 8GB of RAMs, larger keyboard, very smooth touch pad, a bit larger screen for 15.4in. The processor AMD has made strives to significantly boost the performance of the on-board Radeon graphics while adding support for DirectX 12. The processor performance depends on the configured TDP of the SoC. Set to 25 Watt, the CPU should be slightly faster than the old A8-6410 and therefore similar performance to a Haswell-based Pentium or ULV Core i3. The only down side is the RAMs usage because the hardware require that you reserved 1.1 GB to hardware and I DO NOT recommended that you change the setting because it will crash the the computer, however this will leave you with 7 GB of RAM but still faster with a 3.5 GB left over for low-end gaming and other application software.

Most Bang for the Buck !!!

    Posted .

After reading all the Pros and Cons reviews I could find about this computer I purchased it as a replacement for my i7 Toshiba laptop that died. I will never purchase another Toshiba again which by the way cost over 5 times what this computer cost. I decided to purchase this computer because it gives you the most bang for your Buck! I purchased it the night before last online, went down to my local BestBuy yesterday morning and picked it up. Got it home took it out of the box and was surprised at how well it seems to be built. After plugging it in configuring was pretty simple. Just following the onscreen instructions then going to updates and updating Windows 10 to the latest edition I have used it extensively the past day with no issues. At least none of the ones found in the reviews. Battery charged to 100% and lasted over 5 hours. This computer has so many features and is amazingly fast for an AMD processor. It connects to the internet fast and has handled everything I have thrown at it thus far. I don't write reviews but this time I'm making an exception incase there are others in the same situation who are looking for a computer, whether it's for yourself or as a gift and want the most for their money. At $ 299 you won't find another computer with all of these features and one that operates as well as this one. I think those that purchase this computer will be Happy with what they get as well as the money they will be saving. Performance not an issue here. Great product!

I give it a 4 out of 5, for the price.

Most reviews are mixed. For the price, this computer seems good so far. I am replacing a Samsung that I paid double price of what this computer is. I had it exactly 2 years and had problems starting 6 mos. ago. It finely gave out and I was forced to go buy another laptop. Looking at all laptops for $700 - $1000, I decided not this time. If I get at least 2 years out of this Lenovo, I will give it a 5 star, as it is half the cost, better processor and more memory. On some reviews, one should not give a negative review on something they know nothing about. #1 - factory setting is set to battery saver. This only allows the battery to charge 59 - 60%. This saves the battery (when plugged in most of the time) and can be changed easy. #2 it feels cheap made. What does that matter if it works great! My Samsung was made with quality outer material, but the inside stuff was junk, for as long as it lasted. Over all, I give this a 4 star, since it is new to me and I want to see the lasting performance ability. I so far would highly recommend this to someone that wants a decent laptop for the $.

This laptop is great for everyday tasks! Pros: Bright clear screen Large hard drive AMD APU CPU Good amount of ram built in dvd drive windows 10 USB 3.0 Cons: Does not have bluray drive My numeric keypad has a button that doesn't work properly (will be contacting lenovo support for repair) Touch pad more to left side, I would have preferred it to be in center had to change battery saver setting to get it to charge past 60% Over All its a great buy and would recommend for daily use such as web surfing, simple games, and as portable dvd player. works well with external bluray drive i have.

Seems to be just what I needed. I'm not much for doing all my computing on one of the smart phones and prefer the bigger screen of a laptop. This one had more memory and a larger hard drive than my previous laptop which I needed due to saving more photos and documents than I had expected. So far everything is good with this laptop.

Amazing for the price, but beware battery issues.

    Posted .

I ordered this laptop when it was on sale for 299 online, because it was an amazing value. Anybody knows a 8GB RAM laptop with a 1TB hardrive for 299 is a steal. Arrived quickly, however within an hour of setup I noticed my laptop was stuck on 60% and said plugged in not charging, which was a bummer, I got one with a defective battery. Which from reading reviews is common, their battery makers must have churned a bad batch out. However, I just drove to my local bestbuy store and got it exchanged for another one unopened in the box for free, and it only took about 10 minutes to do. No charging issues with this one at all. Even with that, I'm super happy and it was well worth it. No issues with this battery that I can tell and I previously had a HP and I am VERY impressed with lenovos interface, great boot time, fast, doesn't come with bloatware, and runs extremely smoothly. Great for playing sims, and great for school [what I bought it for since I'm a student and my other laptop was on it's deathbed after 5 years of abuse]. Extremely happy with this laptop, especially considering the price. The geeksquad tech even told me as soon as he saw me bring in the other one and he checked the battery out "This was the best preforming laptops for the price we sold during our sells." Of course I knew that ;]

Good laptop for the price. Feels and looks cheaper than the Toshiba I had before. Windows 10 has issues but that is not Lenovo's fault. Speed with quad core processor is average. Was hoping for better performance in speed overall compared to the last laptop that is 7 years older technology. Easy set up and transfer of files. Plenty of USB ports ,sounds great, great hard drive space.

We purchased this for our seventeen year old artistic daughter who asked for a Wacom (drawing mouse pad) for Christmas. Well since we couldn't afford the Surface pro or something similar, we went for a laptop that could run Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator while using a small Wacom drawing pad. This Lenovo is perfect for this application, it does not lag, the programs run great with the Wacom! Her only complaint is the internet can be a little slow sometimes (hence the four stars). Definitely recommend!

I was extremely torn when I read previous reviews from this laptop. However, I read one review that sold me on it. The person said that their son was a computer tech and recommended this laptop for the specs alone! Very pleased that I bought this laptop now.
