I purchased this laptop one month back from best busy. So far this computer is working properly. Before purchasing i made good survey about all laptop. Finally i ended up with two laptop. Sony Vio NZ series and Lenovo thinkpad, the price was almost same. But i decided to go for SL410. Since it is new to market and good configuration. After being used for one month, i felt i made a good choice. All the programs which i was running in XP is working fine in win 7 professional. So i am happy about this product.
Only draw back i found is there is only 2 USB ports which is in convinient. And this laptop always IE is crashing. So i installed Firefox it just works fine.
One more ting i liked is batter backup, as of now it is coming 2.5 to 3 hrs. I feel for 649 USD it is good product with good configuration.

I own and have used several IBM thinkpads over the years, many still in use. The IBM T and A series have been solid performers and the new Lenovo SL410 seems to be well suited to continue the tradition. Bought the machine primarily for Win 7 Pro 64bit as packaged (great value) and the perfornamce has beeen excellent. Great battery life, and the graphics are superb, with excellent clarity, surpassing other machines looked at such as the HP 6930 series. As a legacy thinkpad business user, must point out I only considered machines with trackpoint. This clearly amongst the best in this price range.

Good Laptop for Small Business and Home Use

Most of the business notebook I used before were Thinkpad's from my previous jobs except when i work for HP which of course I have to use HP notebook :-) When I saw this online at Bestbuy I told myself, I have to get one for myself to use for my business and personal use as well. The laptop is fast, I love the keyboard and the built of the laptop very sturdy as compared to other laptop built. Windows 7 is still have some bugs so hopefully it will be fix with all the updates coming from Microsoft.
If you are looking for a professional notebook this Thinkpad will be a good choice and it is great value for money.

I was looking for a good performance, smaller laptop when I went to BestBuy. This laptop was hidden away from the regular section where the laptops were displayed. This is exactly what i wanted ;14 inch screen, light and portable, good battery life, runs cool , and i do not have to worry about the case getting all scratched up. The computer comes with windows 7 professional ( better than home versions) 4 gb of ddr3 (newest type of memory), no bloatware (all those useless programs you will never use filling your hard drive) , and awesome , easy to use lenovo utilities. This is a great computer from a good company. It does cost a little more than most of the laptops on sale. But its worth the money in my opinion

So far, I'm quite pleased with the SL410.
Much less expensive than I usually spend for a work computer.
Keyboard is good, nice big hard drive. I'm still getting used to Windows 7, but so far, so good. Occasionally, the screen has to be angled in just the right way, or some things wash out, but overall, pretty clear.
So far my one big disappointment is that I have some software that needs to run in "XP mode". And although that is supposed to be available with 64 bit Windows 7 Pro, it turns out there is a hardware component that is required to use the feature, and the SL410 doesn't have it. (The processor needs to have "virtualization technology".)

Warning - don't buy a ThinkPad - you'll be sorry

Before buying the ThinkPad X61 I did TONS of online research, including editor's and user reviews. I don't know what has been worse, the Thinkpad itself or Lenovo's customer service. I can't believe I paid almost $2,500 for this piece of junk. Thanks to this experience, I WILL NEVER BUY A LENOVO AGAIN. In the first year, 2 hard drives had to be replaced - one time it crashed while I was on a business trip with a deadline looming - I had to stay up til 4am recreating a proposal in the Hilton business office. STRESS STRESS STRESS!
The letters on the keyboard wore off twice so you can't see what keys you're tapping. For six months I couldn't figure out why I could barely hear anything - I adjusted the sound settings in control panel, nothing worked. Finally figured out the problem - THE SPEAKERS ARE ON THE BOTTOM. WHAT SENSE DOES THIS MAKE? I have to hold up the front edge of the laptop so I can hear the sound of any video clip or song.
And like some reviews now disclose, it runs really hot - your lap will burn up with the Thinkpad on top of it.
Also, the screen gets dirty easily and looks so greasy you would think you ate a pizza on it. Mind you, I don't eat while working on my laptop. Called Lenovo and they told me to clean it with a dry Kim Wipe. All that did was smear the greasy smudges around. When the light hit the screen at certain angles, all you could see was smudgy grease. After tolerating this for a year, a helpful clerk at Radio Shack recommended a spray cleaner that solved the problem.
In addition, programs like Word, Outlook are always freezing, crashing. I can't send or receive emails in Outlook without constant problems - every time I try to send an email it tells me there's an error - EVERY TIME. If I re-send it immediately that usually solves the problem - but that means that EVERY time I try to send an email I have to let it try and fail and then have to hit send a second time before it will work. Paid a computer service hundreds of dollars to check out settings, re configure things. Still nothing but problems. While typing the screen resolution will suddenly change and the text will be HUGE. It is also very annoying that the mouse will drag down by itself while I'm trying to navigate my screen. Some reviews noted this problem, and it's a common occurence.
When they replaced the hard drive for the 2nd time, they told me the extended battery I paid extra for had also gone bad - but it's not covered by the warranty.;
And to think I paid nearly $2,500 for this piece of junk!!!
To Best Buy's credit, I didn't buy my ThinkPad from them - I got it from Lenovo direct - DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE! They messed up my order from jump - first, I waited four months to get the printer that was included - apparently they forgot. One month after buying the Thinkpad the hard drive crashed and what did I get with my warranty? A REFURBISHED HARD DRIVE. Funny, when I paid $2,500 for this laptop, it wasn't for a refurbished one. Lenovo also messed up my warranty. In ten years of owning a business, I have ALWAYS purchased the next day on site business warranty with every laptop I've ever purchased - ALWAYS. When the Thinkpad melted down on my business trip, they told me I'd have to pack it up and ship it to them for repair because they sold me the wrong warranty. So I had to work all night for 8 hours nonstop til 4am in a Hilton business center to re-do a proposal that was due that day - and miss the last morning of the conference I was attending.
The second time the hard drive crashed I was bedridden after being in an accident and was stuck at home in a wheelchair. I couldn't walk or drive. My laptop was my connection to the outside world, and how I ordered groceries, paid my bills. What a nightmare to have to melt down a second time in less than a year. I was lost with no computer.
If I could have rated this a zero I would have - unfortunately I had to give it one point. After years of problems with PC laptops, I give up. Thanks to Lenovo my next laptop will be a Mac.

So far so good, I've had the item now for about 3 weeks, the screen is crisp bright colorful and clear, it came with windows 7 pro and loving it, the hardware configuration is great, it is a great computer for under $600. I feel confident Lenovo is continuing the Quality Thinkpad tradition.

I have 4 days with the computer, I had 3 months review for the laptops, and this convence to me because is the best price for the procesor, memory and some feautures.
The sad fact is win 7, i had a toshiba before with 2gb from ram and athlon procesor, and vista. I really excited when microsoft anounced win 7 because vista for me was very desperate slowly and always the computer freezing in multitask.
With this computer i was expected a fast perfomance but for my surprise, the win 7 is slow, never freezing but is beautiful for some characteristics like screen savers, but it take all the resoources of the computer and more.
In conclusion, I think the computer is great for the price but I really miss xp and I though in my next purchase I really start to save for a mac. I not recomend win 7. I remember my first computer with dial up internet. It doesnt matter if you have hi speed internet, the perfomance is so poor

I purchased this laptop late one evening because my prior laptop died during a business deal and I needed a new laptop for the meeting in the morning. I was able to set up the laptop with Windows 7 Professional very quickly and it worked great during my meetings. I use it for both home and business and so far I have no complaints other than the ID Vault software program included does not work properly and I have not figured out how to fix it. I find the screen to be excellent much better than my prior laptop or others I looked at in the store at Best Buy. This laptop is my third in approximately seven years and so far I think its the best. Also most of the other laptops with similar specifications (processing speed, hard drive size and ram) were more money and had programs geared towards home not business.

I have only had this computer for a day now, and I know I should wait a bit but this computer is still working so I'm excited. This is the fourth computer in a week, 1 gateway and 2 toshibas, and this wonderful Lenovo Thinkpad SL410. So far this computer has handled everything I have thrown at it. Had hulu and youtube running at the same time with no lag, surfed the web and watched a movie at the same time. The screen is great and it can do some moderate gaming. I am playing Call of Duty Modern Wafare 2, yes I have to knock back some of the settings but it is still more than playable. Overall so far I am more than pleased with this computer, and like I said I would buy another if I had the money. Plus you are getting really good components and about what I think is better than average battery life for a rally good Price.

First Time Lenovo User - Awesome!

Awesome laptop with a fast processor; 4gb of RAM and a 350gb HD. Great compact design with a very sturdy keyboard and overall simple, but professional appearance.
This was $560 online at BB - The only model you can get now online at BB is the same, but with a 500gb HD at $640 or so.
I find this laptop a wonderful value. I've used Dells at work and have owned three Dell laptops personally. I like Dell computers, but Lenovo's are much higher end, even though they are not flashy.

A bonafide Lenovo Thinkpad for the budget-minded

I have owned some higher-end Thinkpads over the years for work. This model has many of the same features that have set Thinkpad laptops apart from their computers, but at a value-conscious pricepoint. The keyboard is top-notch, like its predecessors. The trackpoint and touchpad combo is great, as usual. The case seems just a tad more dainty than the industrial business-type Thinkpad machines of the past, but lighter in weight and still plenty durable. It also runs cool, which makes it comfortable when resting on your lap. My previous Thinkpad was exceptionally sturdy at the expense of being light on features; this model, by comparison, has some stellar specs for the money, such as a 320GB HD and 4GB RAM standard. Lenovo has always been a bit more choosy about which OS to install, as demonstrated here by their choice of Windows 7 Professional, instead of the less expensive Home editions used by its competitors. My chief complaing is the glossy screen. In a coffee-shop environment, I have found it difficult to adjust for optimal viewing. The business-class Thinpads have always been known for their anti-glare screens. The glossy screen was a poor design choice IMHO, and would make me think twice before purchasing were it not for the unbeatable pricepoint.

urchased the Lenovo SL410 with win 7 from BB and I am Extremely Satisfied with it! Great little laptop. The performance is great and the WiFI connectivity is amazing. I am able to get a strong signal from far away from wifi point.
The screen on this is amazing. HD movies look unreal! Lenovos are generally aimed towards the business user, however, the SL410 is great with al my media types, pics, movies, music, etc.
Windows is great as well. Far better than Vista. Basically the cool Vista features and more, with all the bugs worked out!
I highly reccomend this to anyone!

I bought this laptop for my small law office. It's a great fit. They software has been very reliable. It has a lot of ports and a good, sturdy, old-school feel. It was easy to set up, and it's a great value at this price. The preset options for energy efficiency are very much appreciated.
If you use your laptop only to watch videos and listen to music, you might want a bigger screen, and you will definitely want better speakers. But if you're purchasing a laptop primarily for business or productivity, this is a great bet, especially for the price.

A Reasonably Price Computer

This is my second Lenovo in three weeks. I bought an SL410 from Best Buy, it crashed on the second day. Called the tech support, He blamed on the Norton Antivirus. I have to start the entire computer from fresh. The service was very average. The guy on the other end does not sound happy to work for Lenovo.
One week later, I happen to notice that the display screen flexes. After a detailed check, I was surprised to see that the screen was not fixed on its frame. When the display screen is pushed, I can actually see a gap between the frame and the display screen and look right into the LED lights in the back. I took it back to Best Buy and get a second Lenovo. So far so good. However, after I have seen the reviews, I am wondering if I should go for another brand. Still hesitating.
Thinkpad used to have such a reputation, I am wondering if the low price strategy has destroyed its good name.
If anyone is going to be buy this line of product, they will need to double check with its quality before they make the final decision.

The help was great, they helped me find the laptop I wanted at another store since they did not have it at their store. The Thinkpad has a joy stick mouse that I like and wanted, the only lapto that did. The system started right up, runs fast and the screen is very clear. Between that and the price being right I am very satisfied with this purchase.

A fine laptop for the price. Glad to have the thinkpad. HOWEVER, because the hardware does not have "virtualization assistance" you cannot run Microsoft's XP mode virtualization if you need to use older software. You have to find another virtualization software to do it. Not impossible; just a hassle.
