Got a defective printhead

This was my first wireless printer so I was very excited not to have to lug my laptop upstairs to plug it into the printer anymore. I was going to get an HP, but decided to try this one based on reviews. Setup was easy but took a few hours. The first problems came when I hit the print button and it said it didn't recognize the black ink cartridge. It was the cartridge that came with the printer, so it was frustrating. Every time I hit print I had to go upstairs, remove the cartridge, then reinsert the cartridge. It was an easy fix, but very annoying as it did this almost every time I tried to print something. 7 days after I bought the brand new printer it showed an error message saying that there was a problem with the printhead. I tried everything suggested in the Lexmark support center and it still didn't work so I called customer service. After a few hours they said what I already figured out: the printhead was defective. They are supposed to send me a new one, but since this printer was only a week old I'm really unimpresed. When it did work it worked well, but all of the issues caused me to exchange it today for the HP I had originally wanted. Also, I was never able to set up the PC free printing, it kept giving me an error message every time I tried. It wasn't a big deal as I don't need to have PC free printing, it was just another issue with this printer. On the plus side the touch screen is nice and easy to read and use. As for ink this printer seemed to use just as much as any other, no more, no less. I know I got one that seemed to be defective from the start and others will probably work better, but I was not impressed with this product.

Good price, with coupon. Good speed. Excellent print quality. Very easy installation. I really like the features and the support. I haven't used it long enough to judge life of print cartridges. If I used it enough I'd want a document feeder, but it meets my need amply.

This Lexmark S605 blows the doors off the Canon Pixma MP-640R, and are identical in price. Feature for feature, it's a no-brainer!! The very best feature is that the S605 has a FULL 3 year warranty for both parts and labor. The Canon MP-640R, however, has only a 1 year LIMITED warranty.

I wanted a wireless printer that was easy to set up. This Lexmark printer was very easy to set up. Haven't tried to scan anything yet, but copies are great.

This Lexmark prints high quality letters, photos and copies with clarity. I have had no problems with scanning photos and documents over to my computer. I haven't explored all of the printing options but I do like the 2-sided printing which saves paper.

Bought this for myself for home use on sale for $129, regularly $199. Used for about a week, loved it, then bought one for my son for Xmas. His set up and tested fine, a few days later he went to use it and it wouldn't work, print head error. Returned to Best Buy thinking they would find the problem but they gave me a new one. It works great!
Very happy, especially at the price I paid. Worth more

Purchased this unit 1 year ago and it worked pretty well until i kept getting printhead errors. After several attempts to clean it with no luck, I noticed a discolored, almost burnt area on the contacts. Bad printhead. Considering it was almost time for more ink, this unit was installed in the trash bin. Going with a more reliable, well built brand Epson. The printer this one replaced was a 4 yr old Epson. Lesson learned!

I set it up to work with my iMac, my daughters MacBook Pro, a VMWare Fusion Windows XP virtual machine, and my wife's Gateway Windows XP laptop. All machines use the wireless connection and it seems to work as advertised. Very happy with the touch pad interface too.

My fiance and I bought this printer around Christmas last year because we had been using a really old printer . Looking for an upgrade with the all in one feature. This one had great reviews and the salesperson raved about it. We even checked the pricing on the ink and figured it would have at least average ink life so they were well priced. This printer worked well for a few months as we didn't really need it that much. After 3 months we had to change the ink and then started to use it alot as we were trying to get organized doing taxes and what not. This printer runs out of ink so fast! I don't understand what the deal is. We are getting married soon and opted to print our own invitations to save money ! Right! I printed 30 invitations ( just the wording as they already had the design on them) and the printer ran out of ink on the last invitation! I had to buy more ink just to do my response cards and started to print on the response envelopes it ran out again! I gave up at this point and wrote them out by hand. We have since replaced the ink cartridges and they just ran out on my AGAIN! After just 2 weeks . I don't really think we have printed more thatn 20 pages. We don't print picture or a lot of colors! Its mostly just scheduales planners menus and little pages of info. Nothing extravagant! I am writing this printer off and looking for one with a way better ink life! Please dont get this printer you will be just as irritated as I am .

Good Wireless Printer

This printer was easy to hook-up and use. The lone problem came from when the printhead started malfunctioning within the first week. Lexmark's Customer Support was exceptional. I talked with them for about 15 minutes to try troubleshooting the problem (after working through attempts from their online support and manual), and they sent me a printhead and new ink immediately at no cost. The hold time was very short as well. The individual on the phone admitted they have had this problem very infrequently in the past with this printhead, not just this model.

I have had to replace the ink cartrages and carrier at Lexmark's expence three times already and now I will trash the thing. I have had several times I needed to reconnect the printer to get access wireless reboot to clear the print que. It has printed pages with one of the inks dumping the entire page with that color. When it worked it was great but I am out of town a lot and spend several hours telling wife and kids to get it back on line. My next trip home I will unplug and spend more money and try an HP printer. I have always had good luck with HP I might spend more money but you get what you pay for. Please do not buy this unit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually look forward to printing & scanning... this machine does everything it says it can do very well.
Also, the print quality & speed are better than any other home printer I have ever owned for the price range, but not full on excellent.

Absolutely Nothing But Problems

I hate giving this printer 1 star, but that's the lowest option. I've had this printer for at least 6 months, and I have had nothing but problems. First, I set it up on my home wireless network, and every time it loses power (the electric goes out because of storms, my dog tripped over the cord and pulled the plug out of the wall) I have to reinstall it on my 2 laptops, because they can no longer communicate with (or even find!) the printer. I never had that problem with my HP. Second, printing is a 50/50 proposition. The printer enters power saving mode when it's not in use, and it may or may not wake up when I try to print. I've tried to turn off the power saver, but there is no way to do so. Third, it wakes up and reboots completely out of the blue and at odd times with no rhyme or reason, and it's very noisy when it does so. Fourth, it tells me repeatedly that I am out of color ink and won't let me print until I change the cartridge, even though I rarely print anything in color. (I've been through 4 cyan cartridges in 6 months, and I have only printed 8 pictures--6 3x5 and 2 8x10--in that time. Everything else has been in black and white.) It's latest trick is telling me that there is a print head error and it will not let me print anything. The only thing it will tell me is to clean the print head contacts, which I have done repeatedly, and obviously, it did not solve the problem. I have read numerous reviews about this product on this and other sites, and apparently my problems are not at all unusual. So now I'm shopping for a new printer and this one is going into the recycle bin. I really regret spending the money on these piece of junk in the first place. Learn from my mistake and look elsewhere!

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. BEWARE!!

Absolute, 100% the worst printer I have ever owned. All the reviews that claim the Wifi constantly cuts out, the printer head constantly "needs to be cleaned" or that the printer head "constantly needs to be re-aligned" are 100% accurate. I have had this printer not even 3 days now and; 1) lose Wifi at least 10 times an hour, 2) I have had to align or clean the print heads over a dozen times in the last 3 days. On top of ALL OF THAT, every time I turn the printer on/off it forgets I already set it up and makes me go through the entire setup process once more.
Aside from that, when it prints, it prints you document in reverse order so you need to colate it after printing as well. Played around with the setting and could not get this to change.
I guess over-looking all that, when it does actually print without a hitch, quality is pretty good.
I bought this printer right before law school finals because my old one died on me, and it definitely did not help with my overall stress levels.
Conclusion: Not worth the incredible hassel that comes with this very shoddy piece of equipment.

I love this printer! It not only does a great job on documents, but the photos are outstanding! I also love the speed - my documents print out very quickly. The display is really nice since it's so easy to read and the automatic "shut-down" feature is an added plus!! I would recommend this printer to anyone, and I can't believe I got it for such a great price. I didn't enjoy printing on my previous printer, but this one makes it fun!

I bought this printer on 1/1/11, and I have had nothing but problems with the printer. I always have to end up logging on to smartsolutions.com for them to make the printer work. Last week, I had to chat with them for two hours non-stop, and I was so frustrated with the situation. I have had other friends and technicians to come to help me with the printer, and it works a little bit, and then, the malfunction again. Last week, I spent 90 on 4 cartridges of ink, and it does not print. It only copies black ink and it also jams. It does not print as a document, and it does not print from the internet either. I read the instructions and it tells me how to unjam it, and I do, and it keeps giving me the same message, although there is no jamming. Tomorrow, I will log on again to smartsolutions for the last time, and if it does not work, I am calling BESTBUY for them to excahnge this printer.
