Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the exceptional picture quality, impressive refresh rate, and vibrant colors of this monitor. Many appreciate the HDR capabilities and find the monitor to be a great value for its price, especially considering its G-Sync compatibility. However, some users have noted issues with IPS glow, while others have reported experiencing dead pixels. Overall, the positive feedback on image quality and performance outweighs the concerns regarding these less frequent issues.

Pros: Nano ips provides vibrant and accurate color. Very bright in sdr mode, enough for bright room use. 4k 144hz via a single dp is fantastic. Cons: Corner ips glow and bad contrast is not good in dark rooms. HDR needs some tweaking. No hdmi 2.1.

Does everything advertised. Had a 27gn850 prior to this, so happy to see LG made a 4k variant for 2020. Color accuracy is great, getting 144hz refresh via DP and my 2080ti, gsync works, good response times. Solid purchase.

The best monitor gaming monitor of 2020

Firstly let me add that there is no other competitor has made a monitor that truly competes with this one in all fronts of having 4k, 144+ hz, HDR 600+, IPS 1ms GtG, and all for less than $800. The closest competitors I can think of are either lower in resolution or much higher in price with same res. I had every expectation that this monitor would flop somehow due to being a new entrance to the monitor market for so much lower than usual but, even compared to outgoing gaming monitors this panel is of such high quality. If you have a 30 series GPU you can finally have that high end 4k gaming experience you've always wanted without going past four digits in monitor price. If you're lucky like I was you can find these open box for $630 ;)

Best value 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor

I did a lot of research on what 4K monitor I should get for my new PC build that features an RTX 3090 GPU. I wanted a monitor that could take full advantage of this video card that was 4K, 144Hz, G-Sync compatible, full 10-bit color with no chroma sub-sampling, and HDR. What I really needed was a 4K, 144Hz monitor with HDMI 2.1 support, but there are no HDMI 2.1 monitors currently available in the 27” range, only large 48” or larger HDTV’s. Luckily, there are monitors like the 27GN950-B that have all the features I wanted along with Display Stream Compression (DSC) that will work with my RTX 3090 to give me enough bandwidth over a DisplayPort 1.4 cable to meet my requirements listed above. There were a few other monitors that met the specs I was looking for, but they were either prohibitively expensive, out of stock, or both! This is where the LG 27GN950-B really stands out. It has all the high end features I was looking for without the high end price! Sure, those super expensive monitors had some extra features like Full Array Local Dimming (FALD), G-Sync Ultimate, and DisplayHDR 1000, but the LG 27GN950-B also has local dimming zones, is G-Sync compatible, is DisplayHDR 600 certified, not to mention I was able to find it in stock! So for half the price, you get 95% of the performance of those really expensive monitors! In reality, I think almost all but the most discerning gamers will love the performance and video quality of the LG27950-B. The only thing I can point out as a slight negative would be a small amount of backlight bleed on a completely black screen, but unless you are looking at a completely black screen, you will never notice this during actual use. This monitor is a perfect match for my RTX 3090. I was able to easily configure my setup and was soon gaming in glorious 4K, 144HZ variable refresh rate (G-Sync) at full 10-bit color with no chroma sub-sampling along with HDR. Words cannot convey how beautiful the video is on this display. Colors are accurate and the smoothness of the high frame rates at 4K is breathtaking. The realism is amazing. I’ve been running MS Flight Simulator 2020 quite a bit and I find myself just staring at the beautiful views. It is so easy to get totally immersed in the gaming environments! Needless to say, still photos are just incredible on this monitor. To conclude, I would highly recommend the LG 27GN950-B monitor if you are in the market for a truly amazing 4K experience. In my opinion, this is the best value monitor in the 4K space at the moment, the sweet spot of 4K gaming monitors. Until there are HDMI 2.1 monitors widely available, which I imagine won’t be for at least another 6 months or so, this is the 4K monitor to get! You won’t be disappointed.

So I bought this earlier that I needed to in anticipation for this too also becoming extinct. I figured it would sell out fast, as it's one of the more affordable 4k 144hz monitors out there (rn). I managed to also snag a 3080 to pair with this and it's just amazing. The experience I feel like only a few are lucky to have, I'm one and it's incredible. Really grateful I got so lucky and if you can get this monitor you should. It's so freaking beautiful to just use in general use and the colors are extremely accurate as well as it's buttery smooth even at lower fps because of the g-sync capability. Extremely satisfied purchase because it's absolutely worth it if you can.

This is a great monitor. I would not have bought them if not for the clearance pricing and now that I bought 2 i really want to get a 3rd. The only down side is they do not turn 90*. But this is not a downside if you get a monitor mount. The display is great. Colors were near perfect out of the box. Had to do some minor customizations and update drivers before it ran above 60hz however this is to be expected for anything you buy nowadays.

Good But Has A Glaring Issue

The monitor is good. Its definitely a step up from 1440p 144hz monitor. Colors are accurate, for gaming and content consumption it is good. Games and videos pop on this thing, its almost 3d like. Oh and everything is razor sharp, its like an iphone display but bigger. One glaring issue though is if you have a dual monitor or triple monitor set up is the infamous, Display Port Deep Sleep issue. If you have your computer to turn off display at a certain time, me for example is set to 5 minutes (windows set to never sleep) and when you come back after around 10 minutes and wake up screens. The 27GN950-B will disconnect and reconnect causing all your opened programs to shift to your other monitor. This is very frustrating since you have to move those apps again to the 4k monitor and adjust their sizes. So far, I have tried every fix from firmware, driver updates to testing on different video cards and computers. I even went as far as installing a new windows 10 on a spare computer and it does the same issue all the time. LG support even responded to return the monitor for repair or exchange. I managed to grab a 2nd 27GN950 and it also does the same thing! This is a known issue all over the internet, LGs forums, and Reddit. Its been documented by other users and their other monitor models as well. LG has not responded on how to fix this issue. Other manufacturers have a settings on their monitors to turn off Display Port Deep Sleep, LG does not have this settings on their monitors. If you like having windows opened all the time and have your monitors turn off at a certain time, stay away from this monitor because you will get frustrated re organizing stuff every time windows put your computer screens to sleep. If you can deal with that by all means buy it anyways. I for one am keeping this monitor because there is nothing like it in the market at this price range. It just sucks that the Display Port Deep Sleep is not fixed by LG.

I am pairing the Monitor with a Ryzen 9 3950x cpu, 128gb of ram and MSI RTX Trio. There is a firmware update that allows this to be overclocked to 160hz now. My monitor doesn't seem to have any light bleed problems. I can get 4k 160hz with raytracing off in COD Coldwar. You will have to use displayport and haave a GPU that supports DSC. I have not had any problems playing games with this. The only con is no HDMI 2.1 for 4k 120hz consoles or built in speakers.

This is a GREAT monitor with one flaw: By default it is configured with a variable backlight setting that is hard to find but easily disabled. Out of the box there's a setting under GENERAL > SMART ENERGY SAVING that defaults to ON. Unfortunately it causes the backlight to randomly dim with content which drives me crazy. There are a few other settings that reference backlight autodimming but this one is hidden and easy to miss. After turning it off this monitor has been excellent. This monitor gets super bright, I have to run it at 35% brightness in my darker room which should be about 300 nits. Full brightness is crazy bright. The colors on this monitor are very accurate, and the white tone at the "Medium" Color Temp is very close to 6500K. Other modes use various other Color Temps but GAME2 seems to default to Medium and is probably the best out-of-the-box mode to use. Overall this is a fantastic monitor.

I was playing on 2080 ti with the Benq model# ew32707u. I loved it but it only gets 60hz. When I got my new 3080 build I was still playing on the Benq. The graphics on the 3080 are a night and day difference vs 2080 Ti. I ordered this monitor because of the 144hz over clocked to 160hz!!! Today I replaced the Benq with the LG and let me tell you it was like I just upgraded my graphic card again!! This is before I enabled the 144hz. Beautiful!!! Over clocked this bad boy to 160hz! Played GTA5 speed is wayyyy faster than what I was working with before. Was only getting 30 FPS dipping down into 27! Now getting 70+ and 60 hz aka 60hz vs 160 is very noticeable to me now that I got this monitor. I sat up some of my games today on this monitor and FPS, I tried Control, Dirt 4, then I put in Doom and it was getting 170 FPS but really only getting 160 ! If you have a 3080 or 3090 I would really suggest this monitor if you can find it cause you are going to have the best of the best 4k at 160 FPS??? What??? Lol Also tried PGA 2K21, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard OMG that game on this monitor is something to behold!!! I have also played Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft. It also came with an accessory box that had the 5k cable but I had already purchased an 8k cable for reference. Box actually had all kinds of cables. You cannot find that on all monitors! The lights on the back of this thing are awesome (even though I had to google how to turn them on lol)! Has some presets and a wheel on the bottom of the screen you can scroll and change the brightness and press in to just chose what kind of color you want RED? Or you can even have a wheel of cool colors lights up the back of your wall! Very nice!! The menu button on the bottom is cool and I like the way the menu is set up. It makes it really easy and it has different profiles also. I would give this thing 10 stars if I could. LG did a really good job on this!

This monitor has excellent text clarity and great response times. However, the colors on mine have either an awful green tint or purple tint depending on the gamma setting that even with hardware calibration can't seem to be adequately corrected. I noticed the display model of a similar ultragear monitor had the same issue. I had to buy a total of 4 of this monitor due to other issues such as dead pixels, significant quantities of dust under the panel, and one of them had the right half of the screen dying. The one with the messed up colors was sadly the best of the bunch. In 2021 this was one of the standout 4k 144hz options, however now better options exist that hopefully aren't as plagued with quality control issues.

Wow LG is killing it on tv's and monitors these past 2 years! This monitor is great in every way. I've seen people complain about lightbleed but I must of hit the monitor lottery cause mine doesn't have any of that. I'd suggest atleast having a 3080 if you really want to be able to use it to its max hz. I'd give it a 9/10 only because it doesn't have HDMI 2.1 but I don't console game anyways.

once you go 4k you simply can't go back. BUT you need the power to make it work. The colors are amazing for both gaming and creative work. The rear ring color sync is nice touch as well. If you're looking for a new highend monitor then this is the one. Keep in mind that if you're looking for HDR gaming this isnt for you. The HDR rating isn't high enough for you to really enough the content

This definitely the best monitor I have ever used! The colors are excellent and the HDR is support is pretty neat, but it's not an HDR machine so keep that in mind. If you have the equipment to push the higher frame rates its is highly recommended! The selectable response times are handy depending on what you need. I will say I wish it had HDMI 2.1 support.

I originally bought this monitor as an open box item, around $300 i think i paid. i have the protection plan from bestbuy and it comes in handy for everything you buy from them. Even though it was an open box item they replaced it when i found that the original one i purchased had dead pixels on the screen. I paid $30 more for a unopened new monitor and it was perfect. I think who ever bought the first one i bought did a good old switch and replace with the messed up one. I will never know, but having that protection plan is very helpful! If your able to buy this monitor on sale do it! I don’t know if it’s really worth msrp for being such an old model, but it works very well and overclocks to 165mhz if you really need that. Also the lighting on the back is very cool and bright if it’s against a wall it looks really sweet.

Will need a new RTX 3000 series card to push this display properly but overall I am impressed with the color accuracy, HDR 600 support and how thin the bezels are. The display feels premium and I am very satisfied so far. Cannot comment on the stand because I have it VESA mounted. Haven't observed any of the flickering that was present on my Samsung G7 32 inch.
