The machine uses a direct drive motor that is controlled by decent inverter board meaning that speed can be controlled between minimum rotation and maximum rotation speed without chunky speed changes. This make for a really quiet washing action and allows quick starts and stops for load balancing of the wash. The motor noise is very low even at slower speeds, the whirling sound can not be heard easily in our wash area next to our living room. Even at the top 1100 rpm spin speed, the unit is very quiet. It does have an issue balancing very bulky loads at anything above medium speed, but only medium speed is selectable as top when you use the bulky item setting. The unit in most modes will weigh a load using velocity calculations and estimate water needed and after 9 loads seems to work really well. Samsung uses a similar technology that I heard in some review videos by noneducational folks saying it spins cloths at start just to waste power. This is not true. You can calculate a load size by spinning the drum at a known power input for the motor. The processing looks at what the drum should be spinning at when the unit is empty vs the power applied to the motor, since the drum is not empty the drum will spin slower based on the hall effect sensor picks up. Based on what the sensor picks up vs what it should pick up when empty you can actually calculate the estimated weight of the load.
On to wash performance ! The unit does a really good job in the normal cotton mode getting stains out, even dried on blood (had some from a nose bleed). Thus the unit does use enough water for each load (read some complaints that it does not from people that love top loaders). The wash action is nice , it does 6 motions instead of just back and forth like older European front loaders. Spin on the very high takes a bit of balancing on most loads but things come out pretty dry and need very little time in a tumble dryer and most poly blends come out near dry enough just to hang dry in an hour. Wash cycles can take up to 2 hours if you use extra rinses, but given the tub capacity you could do an entire weeks in one load. The unit has a nice quick wash feature for dish towels or small loads like that , can do a load in 20 minutes or less. Use an enzyme bleach with such a load to save time on things that you do not wear.
The soap dispenser works well , you need to use less than it says for washing liquid as it really does not need much for most loads. The unit door seal is easy to clean (which must be done on front loaders). The unit has a novel feature in that the door can be left vented but secured to allow the unit to air dry after use.
Power usage is very very low, checking out our kw usage for the day I think one load at 2 hours only consumes half a kilowatt. This is great as you can run it at peak or non peak times without racking up much of a bill.
In all it is a great unit under $800 so go for it if you need a new washer. Some things to consider is the unit is almost 90kg in weight so it must be installed on a sturdy area to reduce vibrations during spin, the legs will also need to be adjust to level the unit so you might want to make sure you have clearance to do so. The unit will open and close the valves quite a bit during a cycle which is bad for very old pipes. Wash cycles can be very long but wash output will be top notch.

You can spend lots more for a front loader than this entry level model but why bother? This one does most everything most folks would want and costs about the same as a no-agitator top loader.
The good: Does excellent job of cleaning clothes with lots of options for clothes type, water temp, extra rinse cycles, extra water; super quiet in wash mode. Makes less noise than a dryer except when draining. Amazing!; High speed spin means clothes dry faster; Smart technology determines correct amount of water, wash times based on user input; Amazingly low water usage. Just enough to wet clothes. But clothes still get clean; 15 minute express wash cycle available if you are in hurry.
The bad: Takes a little longer for normal wash cycle than my old top loader on most cycles. Pedestals are expensive (but unnecessary. Skip them.) Extra maintenance required to keep washer filter clean (but not a big deal). May encounter moldy smell issues if you don't follow after wash instructions to keep door ajar. (a problem on all front loaders)
I did lots of research before I bought this model to replace my 23 year old Amana top loader and could not be happier with purchase. This company has top reliability rating from Leading Consumer Magazine (you know the one).

The cheapest of the stackable, front-loading LG washers we could find at Best Buy. We have used this unit for about 2 months and love it. This is a quiet washer relative to the top-loading units. Only on a few occasions did the drum sound particularly loud due to a few large clothing items knocking around and causing imbalances. The clothes come out clean, the water usage is minimal, and the capacity is astounding. It is not completely silent, however, and there can be some random buzzing and squeaking. But nothing that causes real concern because they come and go. It is quiet enough to use in a small apartment without disrupting conversation a few feet away, but don't expect complete silence.
I am adhering to the warnings about keeping the door ajar after each wash for several hours to stave off mold growth. Once dry, I shut the door afterward to prevent water damage from any freak accidents. So far, the washer has performed admirably. We are happy and content.

This washer cleans clothes better than any washer we have owned (but it is our first front-loader). It uses amazingly little water, is very quiet, and will wash even a quilt for a king-size bed, something we always used to have to take to the laundromat. We bought it with the matching gas dryer.

Most of the reviews I read when researching my machine were written in the first 3 months of purchase. I wanted to give my machine time to perform so I could accurately review it. In the first three months, I loved it. Since then it has gotten louder and the spin cycle sounds like an airplane taking off. I have things sitting on top of my washer and at first they didn't even move!! Now they will easily vibrate right off the top of the machine.
I read a lot of reviews about how bad they smell. Since my washer is in an enclosed space, I decided to leave the door open and it still smells like mildew.
I used to use liquid fabric softner but because the machine doesn't use as much water, it leaves spots on my clothes.
I have not noticed a decrease in my bills because of this machine. I am sure it uses less water but the time it take the clothes to wash is doubled. I can only guess that the electric cost makes up for the savings in the water. My husband is in construction and if I do a pre-wash with a heavy soil setting it take up to 1 1/2 hours to wash.
You also have to drain the machine periodically. There is a panel on the front of the machine which makes this easy to do but if you do not buy the $200 storage drawer, it is a pain because it sits so low to the ground.
It's not all bad. It does have a very large capacity and I do laundry less often than I used to. The controls are easy to manipulate and I never have to set the water levels. The machine calculates this for you. The spin cycle is very efficient and my dryer works less. I have not had any weird error messages and the seal on the door is great with no leaks.
All in all, it is an average machine. Next time I will purchase a top loader.

I debated a lot over which washer to buy. I'm very picky, and if something annoys me, I can't buy it. I wasn't planning to buy LG, but when I saw this unit and compared it to the other similar products, I was sold. I liked that the unit had vibration control, a direct drive motor as opposed to belts, durable and stylish controls, good appearance, and the door open / close seemed secure. I liked that the unit also had a pump filter / strainer which would prevent coins from going into the pump (It happened a lot with an older front loading Maytag). I was debating between this unit and a basic top loader. I'm so glad I got this one because it is quieter, saves a ton of water, gets clothes very dry, and is stable at any speed. I also like the water plus feature. I have to say I got a great deal too! One thing to note is that the automatic water valves are ON or OFF and actuate quickly, so you might get some pipe vibration if in an old house.

Nice Washer

I've owned this washer for several months now and it is everything that it and others claim it to be. Easy to use, does a great job cleaning, saves significantly on water, is quiet, handles very large loads, plays a little tune and has tons of options. A quick and easy wipe down (inside the glass door, the rubber gasket and the detergent compartment) after use and leaving the door ajar for a while (I leave it for about 24 hours) keeps the machine fresh and dry between washes. Checked by my water meter it uses 50 to 75 percent less water per load depending on the size of the load and wash options chosen, i.e. extra water option would of course use a little more water.

This is the prefect washer ever made! Very high-tech from LG. We have it for about 9 months now, used 3-4 times/week. The washer is very quiet, it has all the cycles you may ever need for a huge variety of wahings (some of them we haven't used yet#, our clothes are clean every time with no issues and the best of all - the clothes are almost dry when done! This saves you a lot if you use your dryer - we bought the LG dryer from the same series to match this washer. Nice size for moderate loadings - perfect for small family. Now something that I want to keep you aware. We had this as a part of a "bundle" with other major appliances as we bought everything new for our newly purchased home. It was free delivery but we were forced to buy so called "install kits" in order to get the "free" instalation from Best Buy. The kit for the washer was about $30 and we was told from the Best Buy sales person we'll need this kit if we want the free Install. It is our first home ownership ever, so much stuff to bother so we thought well what, lets do it. The thing is there is very clear instructions in the manual how to install the unit. AND form LG say there is everything you'll need in the package. So unless you're not so strong person and there is nobody who can help you #like a neighbour or friend#, don't fall for this "free install" thing. Free delivery is all you want if you can't do this by yourself too. We never saw anythig from the package, the guys who did came were from "the warehouse" as they said, the truck wasn't with the Best Buy Logo on it so you wonder who these people are. And it says there is 6 additional items and accessories included in the package from LG in the manual, we got only 1 out of these 6. Very dissapointed with the whole story but all this doesn't have anythng to do with the washer by itself and the good job it does. So good luck and look if you can find this machine on sale as we did for $509.00, I hope this all is helpful..

This replaced a good-quality Amana set, and it's far and above any washer/dryer we've ever owned. It's quiet, it's fast, and it does a great job getting things clean. The only real - minor - problem (save for expensive pedestals) is that larger-size bottles of softener and detergent can be clumsy to handle around the top-loading dispenser cup.

I have had my washer for just over a month now; and, I am absolutely thrilled with this purchase. The machine runs quietly and gets our clothes very clean. I also love the cute little music it plays when done.
I make a lot of hand-knit garments; so, I had to have a machine with a wool and hand-wash cycle. This one works wonderfully well.
I have also used it to wash queen-sized quilts and blankets. I wash them on the bulky cycle, and then run and extra spin cycle - perfect!
My cats also love watching the clothes wash. They are totally engrosed by it.
I cannot speak highly enough about this washer. It is fantastic!

Bought this unit to replace an old top loader. It is much quieter, and of course much more energy efficient. You can even get a $100 rebate from the power company as well. After doing some research on front loaders, the 2 most common complaints were closing the door with a little water left behind can leave a musty smell. LG has this covered by adding a magnet that allows you to close, but not latch the door, thus letting it dry out. Another complaint was not enough water was used during the wash cycle. Granted, that's how front loaders work, but LG added an extra water button which you can optionally add for a wash cycle if you need it. The controls are sensible and easy to understand. I also like the smart diagnostic feature which in the event of a problem allows you to call LG, hold the phone next to the washer and it will emit a diagnostic code which can tell them what the problem is. All these features, plus the fact that LG has a nice website with helpful information, make this washer a best buy in my book.

This is my third front-loading washer and I think it will be the best one so far! I do several loads of laundry a week, sometimes a few loads a day. It has a large capacity for bulky items and is very quiet compared to my old one. There are also many options for washing, spin, and load cycles....much like the selection of a more expensive machine. One of the key reasons I chose this machine was the cost...it was reasonably priced for the size and options of this machine. Plus I was able to participate in a rebate for purchasing an energy efficient and water saving appliance...extra bonus!

We tried a top loader but there was not enough action in agitator to clean stubborn dirt, so we returned it. After much research, other websites, consumer reports, this was out choice, based on the repair status, it was the one with the least reported repairs. A local search brought us here; as Best Buy was the only retailer with the machine in stock (everyone had the same price). This is the base level machine for the LG line but full featured (without bells and whistles) and has vibration dampening system. Some cheaper brands this was not included. Very little vibration with a full load. I do have it on a concrete floor. Thoughts: I have wiped the water off the door, gasket and drained the detergent drawer EVERY TIME. Get in the habit doing this and U should be mold/mildew free. On the detergent usage.....Best Buy salesmen told us to use 1/2 the amount recommended by the detergent manufacture (we use dry powder, about 2 heaping Tbs). He was right as I would put a dirty, oily stained jeans / shirt, on heavy soil setting and I'll be darn if they are clean. The machine spins at 1200 RPM and the cloths are damp when finished. So, we had to cut 10 min. out of our drying cycle so as not to over heat the cloths. Yes the machine will take longer to wash but the drum does not move as vigorous as an old agitator machine, hence less electricity. You will see a puddle of water under the cloths, don't worry its enough. The machine will whine when the water is filling the wash drum and do this several times, this is normal. I got the 4 year warranty for peace of mind since this is the first front loader we have owned and the Best Buy warranty is 2x better in price than the competitors.

The washer is great. Like the many options (love quick wash). Very efficient too! Pros: Water bill dropped, many wash options, easy loading tray (detergent/fabric softner) and very, very quiet, reversible door. Cons: Have to bend slightly to load, unless you buy pedestal for $250.
Just make sure it sits on even ground and level it using the built-in leveling legs, because if not it will make a lot of noise as it spins at very high velocity. Hope this reviews helps you out as they did for me and led to my purchase, don't regret it!

Bought the LG front load washer and dryer at Bestbuy.com during Labor Day sale and got a great deal. Had some issues with delivery, but the store manager was great. Installation was smooth and they took away my old washer and dryer no problem. Now in October the system has performed flawlessly and love the features...not too many or too few. Very efficient - FYI..it requires HE detergent. At little noisy when starting a new wash cycle. Highly recommend.

I have had my washer for a couple weeks now and I love it so far. It does vibrate a little in spin till it balances out the load which is normal. It is so much quieter then my old washer and so far it is doing a good job at getting every thing good and clean. When my wash is done I dry the door off and inside the rubber door gasket and then I let the door open for a while to dry things up and when I close the door up I only close till the magnet catches and I have had no problems with mildew smell at all like some other people clam they have had.

We purchased this unit, along with the matching electric dryer, about six weeks ago. Primary reason for our selection was the high ratings on BestBuy.com and from Consumer Reports. The reviews and ratings do not lie. These are great units that have performed great through daily use thus far. Both have high capacity, easy to follow controls, and produce fresh, clean, great-smelling laundry. We could not be happier.

I have had my washer for about two months now and I am very pleased with it. I cloth diaper and do a load every other day and the extra water option is great. It gets all my clothes and diapers clean. The only negative is the first few uses with my washer we had a very bad hammer. My water pipes shaked so bad that I was afraid they where gonna break. After much searching I found out I needed a water hammer arrester. It cost me about $30.00 for two and was very easy to install. This fixed the problem right away. My washer is so quite now I barley notice it anymore. I Just wish LG already had this installed. Besides that a great buy!
