WOW, can you use all your speakers?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.WOW is a funny sounding word to use as a prefix for a sound configuration capability. Nonetheless, LG has purposed this term to describe coordination between a select recent group of LG televisions and certain models of soundbars that act in cahoots to utilize both the TV’s internal speakers as well as a soundbar and externally controlled speakers like the included subwoofer and rear channel speakers in this system. However, getting it to work in a seamless fashion, is not necessarily for the faint of heart. The S60TR sound bar system under review, is a 5.1 channel model that doesn’t have quite as many “bells and whistles” as the pricier S70TR LG model, but has a satisfying set to fulfill most people’s needs to add a lower-cost, high fidelity surround field for medium to small rooms. It will make just about any TV sound better than it would without it, but was designed with the “WOW Orchestra” LG television compatibility in mind. There is no Dolby Atmos processing or assigned “height” function drivers on this model, but there are a few playback codecs like Dolby Digital and DTS. There are also sound eq presets such as AI Sound Pro (an adaptive eq derived from program content), Standard, Cinema, Clear Voice Pro, Sports, Music, Game, and Bass Blast. This system is handsome in its design, sporting grills and a look that consistently delivers an understated elegance that calls no undue attention to itself. Good job on that aspect, LG. Also, I’m a big fan of the direct AC plug-ins all-around, sans wall-warts, but I’m not a big fan of such short (5’ length) cables that are supplied. Included in the box are the soundbar, subwoofer, two wireless rear channel speakers, a remote with two AA batteries, an optical cable, a rear speaker connect cable (that connects the two rear speakers to each other), two wall mount brackets for the sound bar with two screws, three (short) power cables, a super simple manual, a mounting guide template for placement of the sound bar wall brackets and a warranty card. There is an app available that can help optimize sound settings, and a degree of control capability from the LG tv’s remote, (if all connects well). A more comprehensive manual can be found online to supplement the extremely sparse, “Simple Manual”. The three speakers in the sound bar (left, center, right) and the satellite rear speakers are all of the full-range type that are expressing sound in all of the frequency range other than the lowest notes (which are, of course, supplied by the subwoofer). There are no additional tweeters or woofers and thus no passive crossovers. This configuration can be aurally adequate if the drivers are of good quality and the system employs digital signal processing to help shape the sound frequencies to the target “voicing(s)” as is applied here. As for the subwoofer, keep in mind that it is probably best suited to filling smaller-to-medium-sized rooms due to its size. It won’t ever be gut-punching bass that rattles your belongings off the shelves, but it works well and is adequate for this purpose. Also, it is effortless to set up with its wireless connectivity and as stated previously, it is simplistically handsome. Regarding the satellite/surround speakers, note that one is powered and will require access to a 100-240V power source as do the other components. There is a traditional speaker cable supplied that will join the remaining surround speaker to the powered one, thus sharing the internal wireless receiver and the two-channel power amplifier. Kudos for the extra-long cable length. Unfortunately, there are no wall brackets included for the surround speakers, but there are 4mm threaded bosses on both the back and bottom of both of the surround speakers to attach to optional, externally-sourced brackets, if required. Also, the app will allow switching the left/right orientation if the location of a power source is not convenient channel-orientation-wise. With all that out of the way, lets get to what makes this package appropriate for your needs or not. This particular sound bar has specific accommodations for use with certain models of LG’s televisions that allow use of the internal tv speakers in “concert” with the S60TR’s speakers. I actually had a tough time pairing it with a recent (2023), supposedly compatible 65” LG OLED set. I am beginning to think my set might not be as compatible as I had hoped, as despite the recognition of the sound bar as being one that is recognized by the TV, I am not getting the TV’s remote to adjust both the sound bar and the TV simultaneously without some side effects. I guess the nomenclature of WOWCAST, WOW Interface, WOW Symphony and WOW Orchestra(?) were not wowing me over. Since my initial frustration with connectivity through the HDMI ARC connection, I have learned that one of the paths to the intended successful WOW connectivity is through the Bluetooth connection with required adjustment of delay timing on the TV and the soundbar system. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to figure out how to have the soundbar connected continuously to the tv via Bluetooth as well as to the smartphone app simultaneously. This makes adjusting settings to the system kind of frustrating, not to mention the lag, even with the 5.3 Bluetooth spec. The overall sound quality is mostly good and with the use of presets on the remote or app as well as bass, mid and treble sliders accessible on the LG Soundbar app, you can find a setting that will make most program material sound good. The app allows complete control of all the functions on the sound bar with the most significant aspect being able to clearly see the status of sound settings, inputs and other operational functions without having to rely on flashing lights on the front. Keep your expectations within the abilities of this size system, and you will most likely be pleased. I recommend this product considering its relatively low price, simplicity, versatility, input options (ARC compatible HDMI, optical digital and Bluetooth) and for its mostly pleasing overall sound. I would probably not buy it for its WOW capabilities as it seems to be too much of a pain to get it to work seamlessly and without lag, and seems to be a hit-or-miss proposition. I have to also question why you would want to include the use of the TV speakers with your sound bar if the whole reason you are adding a sound bar is that you aren’t happy with the sound of the TV speakers! Also, level-wise, it seems to be a bit erratic, so time testing is in order to determine just how well it will function on a day-to-day basis. Families with newborns should probably not buy this model, as it may have a tendency to undo all that work it took to get the kiddo to sleep with a loud, unexpected blast. Good night.

Great intro into the high def world!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking to elevate your home entertainment setup, the LG S60TR 5.1-Channel Dolby Audio Soundbar is a solid choice that brings powerful and immersive audio experiences right to your living room. Here's my take after giving it a thorough test. Sound Quality: First off, the audio performance is impressive. The 440W Dolby Audio system creates a rich, cinematic soundscape with its 5.1-channel configuration. The clarity of dialogue is superb, making it easy to follow conversations without cranking up the volume. The sound effects are thrilling and immersive, thanks to the dedicated rear speakers that provide an enveloping surround sound experience. Whether you're watching action-packed movies or enjoying a quiet drama, this soundbar delivers across the board. Setup and Connectivity: One of the standout features is the wireless rear speaker connectivity. The absence of a receiver simplifies the setup process significantly. You can place the rear speakers anywhere in the room to get the best audio experience without worrying about tangled cables or a complicated installation. This wireless feature really enhances the flexibility of the system and is a significant advantage for any home theater enthusiast. Control and Customization: The WOW Interface is a game-changer in terms of convenience. Being able to control both the soundbar and your LG TV with a single remote is a huge plus. It makes managing audio settings and checking connection statuses effortless. Additionally, the LG Soundbar App adds another layer of customization with its advanced EQ settings. You can fine-tune the bass, treble, and mid-range frequencies directly from your smartphone, which is fantastic for tailoring the sound to your personal preferences. Included Accessories: The package includes everything you need to get started: the soundbar itself, a remote with 2 AA batteries, an optical cable, a rear speaker cable, and a wall mount bracket. It’s well-thought-out and ensures you have all the essential components for a complete setup. Overall Impressions: The LG S60TR 5.1-Channel Dolby Audio Soundbar offers a premium audio experience with ease of use and flexibility. The wireless rear speakers and the intuitive control options make it a standout choice for anyone looking to enhance their TV audio setup without the hassle of complicated installations. If you’re in the market for a soundbar that combines powerful sound with user-friendly features, this model should definitely be on your radar.

Solid at Price Point
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first 5.1 system, so I have nothing to compare to other than my 2.0 soundbars. I was interested in the Vizio 5.1 system because it was offered at a lower price and has Dolby Atmos. But, that system does not come with a remote and is controlled through a phone app. I like to have a remote with soundbars for quick changes if necessary, so I went with this LG S60TR system. I am mainly writing this review to draw attention to a couple of items for other customers to consider while evaluating this product. I have noticed some reviews calling out the limitations of the Simple Manual. Simple Manuals like this are just quick start guides and do not say anything about the full capabilities. I strongly recommend for LG to consider the following in the Simple Manual, under Installing and Using the Product: There is a sentence that reads "To view the instructions of advanced features, visit...." LG is REALLY selling themselves short and misleading the customer here. The "advanced" features are actually very important fundamental features to understand and use if the customer is to truly get a 5.1 system operating. If the customer simply takes the product out of the box and assembles and sets it up per what is in the Simple Manual, they will end up with nothing more than what sounds like a 2.0 system or even worse given the defaults that run (for example, Surround Sound is OFF by default). So, the wording should not be "advanced" features, but rather should say something like "To view the instructions covering the full capabilities and to optimize your soundbar, visit...." A second thing I would like to mention is how the old phrase "garbage in, garbage out" applies to soundbars. So, before someone evaluates a soundbar system, they will need to consider the source of the input. If the input source does not support Surround Sound and/or has a low quality audio format, don't blame your soundbar on the output audio quality. If the source is music or a movie with a high quality audio format, then the user will want to make sure their soundbar system is set to optimize the particular input. Luckily, the S60TR system has a sound effect setting "AI SOUND PRO" that should do this automatically, but in my experience, I occasionally find another sound effect category that can make things even better. I don't know why LG has set a default of NO Surround Sound on this system, but I think it is the first setting one should change to an ON setting. I have seen some reviews stating that the rear speakers and subwoofer are not working, but it is probably because they unknowingly have Surround Sound off. With all this said, I am very happy with the S60TR for the price. I am one who likes to explore and experiment with all of the settings and optimize. I don't know how things would sound if this system was Dolby Atmos capable like the Vizio in the same class, but what I have certainly meets my needs. I experimented with the volume to see where distortion may creep in. Well, it never set in. I did not want to push it beyond the point where my friendly neighbors would be disturbed, so lets just say I pushed it to the realistic point. :-)

Pretty good 5.1 speaker setup with a few issues
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always been a fan for LG products, so when I needed a sound system to go with the LG TV I bought for my daughter's college house, I wanted to stick with LG products. The S60TR seemed like a good fit. I wanted a 5.1 surround system with wireless speakers so I didn't have to run wires around the living room. The S60TR is not LG's most top of the line system, but it also wasn't a cheap $100 attempt at surround sound either. It was middle of the road which is what I wanted for a group of college students it was intended for. Installed and in use, the S60TR does the job. Am I happy with it? Not quite. I'll start with the good. The system was very easy to set up. I hooked the soundbar via HDMI ARC to my LG TV, put the subwoofer on the floor, and rear spekaers in the back of the room. There is a very specific sequence for turning the system on initially that is kind of hidden in the extremely poor directions inside the box. It all connected easily once powered on. Once everything was dialed in with setting on the TV and soundbar, I have to say the sound was amazing. Very loud and rich with lots of detail. I initially had some configuration issues with the TV output and the movie we were watching wasn't coming out of the read speakers. I tweaked things and actually made my daughter jump out of her seat when the rear speakers came online properly. The performance is great and I appreciate that I can control everyting from my single LG TV remote. The girls are going to love this upgrade over the TV speakers they've been using. That said, there are a LOT of problems to overcome before you get to that great performance. First, the instructions included in the box suck. Badly. They are in microscopic print and tell you only how to hook things up. They have no instruction nor even an easy QR code link to more detailed instructions on how the system operates. There is a QR code that leads you to the LG Soundbar App which connects to the soundbar system via bluetooth. Note that if you have an LG app already for working with your LG TV, this is a completely separate app (why?). There is a hidden link within the app for the full instruction manual. Make sure you find it because you're going to need it. Oh, and the bluetooth connection does not reestablish itself after a soundbar power cycle. If you need to use the app again, you have manually reconnect the bluetooth. Second issue- The app is very basic, but at least somewhat useful. It allows you to change someof the most common soundbar settings including balance, speaker strength, etc. You can't do everything in the app though. Some things need to be done directly on the soundbar with the remote. This is where things go bad. The soundbar relies on 3 vertical LEDs for status. Various combinations of these LEDs mean different things. There are PAGES in the instruction manual of various LED configurations. It helps that there is a voice prompt for most things, but setting the configuration is impossibly complex (press right on the remote, up twice, stand on one foot, verify the top LED is lit, the bottom is white and the middle is asking for lunch, then...). Dial the soundbar in, then hope you don't have to touch it again. Lastly, and the one that irritated me most is that the the "LG S60TR Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and Rear Speakers" is NOT WIRELESS. I expected power cords of course, but no other wires. When I unpacked the box, there are 3 power cords but 4 speakers (soundbar, sub, 2 rears). I thought LG left one out of the package by mistake, so I found a similar one in my stash to use. Turns out I didn't need it as only one of the 2 rear speakers needed power. Why? Because the 2nd rear is passive. There is a wireless connection between the soundbar and Sub, and the soundbar and one Rear. But the connection between the 2 rear speakers is via a 20foot stero wire cable that LG provides. This is such a disappointing setup. I wanted wireless, but what I got was partial wireless. I still had to run an exposed speaker wire to the two corners of my living room! I can't run this through the wall and I'm not pulling up carpet to run it there, so I have an exposed wire running along the back wall that I try to hide behind furniture and plants. It's just mind bogglingly stupid. It like they got 90% through the design of the unit, found that adding electronics to the second rear speaker would make them miss their cost target, so they cheaped out. It ruins (for me) what is a perfectly fine sound system (once dialed in). For those considering this system, I was on the fence between 3 stars and 2 stars. It's a 3 star system if you know what you're getting into. Once dialed in, the sound is terrific. It integrates well with LG TVs and we have no real complaints. IF coming into this cold, it's 2 stars for the diffulty in setup, unfriendly on soundbar status issues, app issues, and the fact that it's NOT wireless like advertised.

Great system, subwoofer has issues though.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sounds great and looks good, subwoofer shakes the entire living room during the diagnostic, but when actually in use it seems like the system isnt utilizing the subwoofers full potential. Even changing the individual subwoofer volume in the app and placing it on bass boost mode seems to make the subwoofer produce almost absolutely no sound, and little bass. If it wasnt for that, I would have given it five.

Nice sound bar for its price
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beautiful sounds. Easily syncs with TV. Only down side is it isn’t 100% wireless. The two smaller speakers have to be wired together. That can be troublesome depending on your setup plans. Comes with wall mounts which are very easy to install
