Before I jump in, I've worked in IT and the video/audio industry for years now. This includes everything from building custom PC builds, servers, to setting up home theaters, auditoriums and stages. With that being said here's my experience and I hope it helps others: This external drive can play DVDs and regular Blu-ray discs. I tested several without any issues. If you're buying it for that then you "shouldn't have issues." Apparently it can also play 4K Blu-ray discs as advertised according to some other customers.*** However in my particular case I was only able to play DVDs and regular Blu-ray discs. I was not able to run the installation software CD that came with the external drive. It's an old OEM CyberLink software. It kept giving errors and crashing. I ended up purchasing the newest CyberLink PowerDVD 20 Ultra software which allows and supports 4K Blu-ray media on players such as this for both Windows and MacOS. After installing the new version of CyberLink PowerDVD 20 Ultra and checking the player drive for updated drivers I was still not able to play 4K Blu-ray discs. FYI I also have all the latest Windows 10 Pro operating system updates along with the system drivers. There are several requirements that you will need to run 4K Blu-ray playback and that I understand. However with a fairly new and mid-range laptop, and here are the specifications: Operating System: Windows 10 Pro Processor: Intel i7 9750H Memory: 32GB Hard Drive: 1TB SSD Video Card: Intel HD 630/ Nvidia 2060 RTX I still wasn't able to achieve 4K Blu-ray playback. I mention the specifications because they're important to the next issue. Even with updated drivers for the integrated and dedicated video cards and motherboard I was not able to play the 4K Blu-ray discs. The CyberLink software will give an error saying that the computer's cards are not capable or updated even though they are according to Intel and Nvidia's specifications and latest patches. NOTE: I opted with CyberLink's new software because it's one of the few certified ones that can actually play back 4K media content. There are forums with other users with more powerful builds and as prepared as I was and they still weren't able to play 4K Blu-rays either. There's also the issue of HDCP connections and HDMI which I won't get into but that will also affect other users. Bottom line in my experience and others across the forums, it's a great DVD and Blu-ray player but I wouldn't advertise or count on it to play 4K Blu-ray discs. The build is on par with the LG brand and it arrived in good condition. Sadly it's the only 4K Blu-ray player that Best Buy sells and one of the few in the market.

Nice external blu-ray player. If you need a disc drive for your computer this one is worth considering. I’m currently using it with my MacBook Pro and I have no complaints. It was priced at ~$100 when I got it which is reasonable for a good BD burner. I can’t speak to how well it works to burn DVDs but otherwise happy with this purchase.

Works very nicely with my old laptop pc. The Cyberlink program that comes with this produce is very easy to download and use to view my blu ray disc movies.

Easy to use bluray burner. I'm enjoying it so far as it isn't big and bulky and works really easily.

This External Blu-ray Double-Layer drive is truly a plug and play device. Just plug it in your computer's USB connector and start using. Works perfect every time for writing to any type of cd or DVD. Another plus is that it's powered from the USB connector. No other power needed.

only used it 4 times but all 4 times worked just great..jus wish best buy offered extra exended warranty on all external disc players for peace of mind..but they do not..oh you got to buy extra usb connector you need 2 inputs on same side of your laptop if you only got one...need 2 usb inputs to operate..

This device is great I built a rig not thinking I was going to want or need an optical drive then decided I wanted to digitize my dvd and blu ray well needed something to rip them and this has torn through them like no ones business.

It's a little difficult when tryi g to get it to open initially to place a DVD/CD in it. When done using it, when using the automatic open feature on the computer, it only opens half way.

We bought this as an addition to our Apple computer, which was also bought at Best Buy. We have lots of enjoyable time when we don't feel like watching our 65 inch television that is downstairs, and our Apple PC is upstairs, so we love our CD writer because it also does Blu-Ray movies. Total joy!!!!

Had a little hiccups with it can't use it very well with my microsoft surface go 3 with a docking station but I think that's just my docking station not the actual product otherwise works very well can be a little slow because of the USB 2.0 but otherwise very nice

A great drive. Bundled sofrware is a little limited but there are other options that are feeeware or very cheap

I've had other LG External Blu-ray drives, and they were more substantial than this drive. It was very easy to set up and did an excellent job of making the copy.

This Blu-ray player is excellent! I can recommend it.

Great for ripping 4K movies. Fairly loud though. Might need an internal drive for quieter operation.

It was super easy to plug in and install the software and played discs with no problem. It runs very quiet and the Cyber-link program that comes with this product is very easy to download and use to view Blu-ray disc movies.

The LG external disk player/writer sesames to play or write any format I throw at it. It is very small so it is easy to find room for it on my desk. I like the one cord to deal with, just plug into a USB port and your done.

I really like it. Works great. I use it mostly for my pc and it does the work it needs to without alot of noise or issue.

Great product. Simple plug-n-play, much quieter than my other external burner & unlike my other burner this one came with core software for playing & burning DVDs.

Disappointed, Will not play Ultra HD disks on my recent gaming laptop, and the requirements for this are too complex at least for Me The software bundle that is in-concluded is not up to date Most likely a cost upgrade
