I bought this drive to use with a Surface Pro 3 that has one USB 3 receptacle, to load software, including games. It is very lightweight, fast and easy to use (including on other-than flat surfaces), loading its own driver when it is plugged into the computer. The weight is important because I will take it with me when I travel.

Works great. I love it. It was easy to connect to my laptop. The movies were quick. great color. It is light weight and easy to carry. my wife loves it. The burn time is good but there is room to improve the speed. The price is a bit higher compared to other products on the market

I bought this as most the laptops at another store dont come with optical drives anymore as I still like to burn music to CDs as a backup for my car trips and I like to rent a redbox movie on the road. This drive has read most everything I've put into it as well as wrote tons of music with little to no problem. The few things I would like to have with this is a longer USB cord as the one it came with is pretty short as well as better software as my laptop did not come with any software to watch movies I had to download VLC player or pay for an upgrade to make windows play it. Other than those two gripes this was a great purchase but it would have been nice if they would sell better laptops with optical drives still.

So this drive works great and was a cheap buy on sale. Very thin and light and goes well with my Macbook Pro Retina 13. Actually, weight-wise, this drive and my laptop are still lighter than the old 13 in Macbook Pro with the built in drive.

I bought this for work since they gave me a new slimline laptop that did not have a CD Burner in it. It connects easily, and is small and easy to carry in my laptop case. I use it to save files to disks needed for work, and cheaper to burn disks than leave thumbdrives. The only thing I still struggle with, which may be more me than the software, is that several times I have tried to burn a disk and it did not work properly. I have always been able to find a way to burn the disk, and it is quick, but to be fair I have not read the instructions either. There are probably features I do not know or understand yet, but I have used CD burning software programs in the past. This was a great purchase for the price. I just have to spend more time with it and learn the features.

My daughter needed an external CD/DVD drive as her laptop did not come with an internal one. This is lightweight, compact, easy to use and install.

I needed a simple external DVD drive for my laptop. This Drive suited the bill. It is small, light weight and inexpensive. So far it is working great.

This external drive is super easy to install. It's light weight and compact. I didn't think I would like having to use an external, but for the price, it's awesome!!

Product is excellent for the price. Is compatible with everything except for blu-ray of course. It's very slim which makes it convenient to carry around. However due to the slimness, you have to be careful when tilting or moving the device with a disc in it because the disc will touch the top of the device. Overall a great deal for the price and a reliable product.

This LG gets the job done. Price is good! If you're looking for something slim and compact this LG product is the way to go! I'm happy with the purchase.

Daughter needed this because her thin, light weight laptop doesn't have a Cd Drive. It's easy to use and light weight. AWESOME PRICE. . Highly recommend

This slim design is a great for carrying with me on teaching jobs. I can depend on the speed and reliability of this DVD external player for my business.

This is a great portable cd dvd drive for the price. It's quiet and burns and rips quicky. When we're running around, my kids can watch their dvd's using it with my Surface Pro 3 just fine, without issues. It has a very slim profile, is lightweight, and easy to install. I can easily fit in a backpack, diaper bag, medium size purse, side pocket of car door, and most glove boxes.

Works well. Reasonable price. Needed for laptop. Light weight and easily plugs into usb port. Comes with cable. Plug and play. High Speed.

This is a nice size, works well. It's lightweight, fast, easy to install (I just plugged it in -- nothing to it!) I would recommend it.

I hesitated for a long time before purchasing an external drive, unsure of what I needed/wanted, of where the technology was going, and whether I wanted to pay the prices I'd seen on various drives in the past couple of years. I feel the Best Buy employee who pointed me towards the LG 8x External Double-Layer machine pointed me to the right machine, with all the features I wanted, for the right money. I've been very happy with its ease of use, sleek and light size/style, and readily portable design.

As laptops/netbooks/chromebooks, etc get smaller, thinner and more portable, certain standard features become expendable. This is the case with the on-board DVD/CD drive. I recently procured a HP Netbook and, of course, it did not have an internal DVD/CD drive. What to do, what to do? A quick sprint through the Best Buy website and I found the answer: LG - 8x External Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Drive. Tnin, not much bigger than a CD case, extremely light, what's not to like? I checked availability at the local Best Buy store and bought it immediately. After hooking the drive up to the USB port on the Netbook, it was immediately recognized and worked like a charm. Not only that it takes up minimal room in my laptop bag and allows me to load software or to play music/watch a program. Oh, yeah, the price? Outstanding! Great value for money.
