Such a fun, educational show. Great clarity and description.

This is the Americanized version or at least what Discovery Channel thought we wanted. Like with the original Planet Earth that Discovery replaced the great David Attenborough with Sigourney Weaver and re-edited the video to fit American commercial TV structure which ended up a poorer choice all the way around. This time they used Oprah who just is out of her element in this presentation and ended up with an even less successful result. I like Oprah in general, but this was a poor pairing. The video is also less clean than the DA narrated version being an OK 1080i transfer instead of the better 1080p transfer used for the original release. At least the edited sections removed for time editing of the US TV episodes had been added back in the extras so you aren't losing material. There is also the option of just playing the video with the music only audio which can make for a nice background presentation -- pretty pictures with pretty music. Overall, I would strongly advise people to buy the original version since there is really nothing in this addition that is equal to the other.

This series is visually stunning and incredibly informative. The only down side, if I have to choose one, is that it left me wanting more. Maybe some more extras. Otherwise it's great. As far as the Oprah narration is concerned, she does a very good job. If you buy the DVD, buy it for the visual and informational content. Unless the narrator's voice is particularly irritating, and I don't think Oprah's voice is, it doesn't matter who's narrating.

It's not about the narration, it's about the content and quality. The first review was pretty much worthless. Also... Angelina Jolie did NOT narrate Planet Earth US edition, that was Sigourney Weaver which really has nothing to do with Life anyway. Life was excellent: great quality, great information, superbly filmed. Regardless of the narrator, this is a must get!!!

Some of the most amazing camera footage of animals I have ever seen. Completely engrossing and educational, details the complexity and grandeur of life. The whole family loves this series. If you liked the Planet Earth series you will love this one as well.

Excellent portrayal of wildlife on land, water, ice, deserts, etc. It was great to watch it and gives the viewer a true perspective of our precious ecosystems and inspires us to protect our planet and all of the life forms it supports ... this set is a must!!!

BestBuy is trying to get rid of these because nobody wants to buy this with oprah Winfrey's horrible narration. with "planet earth" the US got angelina jolie for narration instead of david attenborough in the original version. eventually bestbuy offered the david attenborough version in stores. same here. either order online or wait until they have the david attenborough narrated version. david attenborough does this for a living. if you've seen the US version on TV then you know how sub-par oprah's narration is.

This was a great find. I got it at a good price on sale. The camera work is just amazing and the picture is on great on my Blu-Ray and HD TV.
