I did my research on several smart light bulbs before purchasing lights for my recessed cans in my livingroom. These are easy to program, work great and respond to on/off commands or color changes in sync with one another with no lag. Works flawlessly with Alexa which I use to turn them on and off, dim to certain brightness and change colors. You can use the color wheel to make any color. There are different color themes as well as warm and cool whites to choose from. Well worth the investment!

The Lifx bulbs are very bright. Which is why I would recommend these over the philips hue bulbs. The connectivity and light dimming issues is the reason for the 4 stars. It seems that I am constantly losing connection with one of the many Lifx bulbs that I have purchased. When the bulb stops working, it goes dim. This has become very frustrating, I do not have this problem with the philips hue bulbs that I have, which are dimmer. The difference is there is a hub that controls the philips hue bulbs and the Lifx bulbs are strictly wifi. I have had to return more than one Lifx bulb and had to contact Lifx customer service due to the reasons mentioned above. In my opinion, when all the Lifx bulbs are working, there the best smart bulbs for brightness and color control. Philips hue bulbs are more durable, but dimmer. I rarely have any issues with the hue bulbs. Modem and Wireless router: I am using the Orbi ax6000 Tri-band wireless router with the spectrum modem and receive over 300 Mbps. Example of Connectivity Issues: I have can light fixtures. And when one of the lifx bulbs stop working, I have to remove the light, find another light fixture to screw the bulb in, and start the process of adding the bulb. If I leave the bulb in with the other can light fixtures, I would have to reset all the bulbs in the can light fixtures. This repeatedly happens. In conclusion: Would I recommend this bulb to a friend, yes. I would tell them to buy a few at a time (1-5). As of right now, only one Lifx bulb is not responding. That is good due to the many Lifx bulbs that I have purchased. I will need to remove the light from the can light fixture and reprogram it. If the Lifx bulbs had a hub or stronger wifi connection, and kept the same brightness and color control, I would give the light bulb 5 stars.

These have some of the best color saturation of any bulbs we've used and we've tried a lot of them. Perfect for our recessed cans in the basement ceiling. The bulb is long enough to screw in and sit flush with the ceiling. I know the price seems high when compared to some of the competition but I have 7-8 year old LIFX bulbs that are still functioning perfectly. They're extremely reliable and hold up for the long haul. Definitely worth the money if you're trying to get the most band for your buck.

I have 7 of these and 2 of the standard size A19. They are extremely frustrating. 1. Setup is slow and cumbersome 2. Setup needs to be redone periodically, not sure why but I assume if they don’t get powered for a while they reset (for example if you go on vacation) 3. For the cost they just don’t have the longevity they should have. In my case beyond the setup and use troubles. At least 3 of my lights are now garbage and are either very dim or won’t match the color of other lights even know they are set the same in the app.

I have around 15 LIFX lights in my home and love everyone of them. The LIFX customer support is also excellent. These lights are great for big floor lamps. I use them in my meditation room and it provides the perfect environment to exercise, meditate or just play video games.

These Are The Best..Better Than Philips HUE

    Posted .

The app is so much easier than HUE. Colors are better and brighter. However, not as soft as the HUE's colors. What I like about the LIFX is that on the app you can pick a pure color like Blue or Purple and tone it down on the app by adding a little white to the color. The bulbs from LIFX are much brighter than HUE's. And, I have a few light strips which are great and a couple of rooms of the BR30 bulbs in my existing Hi Hat fixtures. The only thing is that unless everyone in your house has the app, it's a pain to control the lights as they have no way to turn them on or off. There is a switch from Logictech that is a 3 way press switch which also works with IFTTT technology. You can easily wirelessly program this click switch (which is very small and thin) to turn the lights on and off. Or, to control a number of other wireless things in your house. For now, the other members in my family can use Echo (Alexa) and speak to turn the lights on or off. The BR30 sized bulbs also state on the package they can be used indoors or outdoor locations (with the HUE you can't do that). Also, as mentioned in many reviews, no hub needed to buy with LIFX system. Installation took all of 3 minutes to screw in the bulbs and download the app. Took longer for me to decide what names to give the bulbs. Grouping them is easy so in my room with four hi hats I can turn all on in a group or turn each one off or on individually. Color rendition is great. Even the shades of white are amazingly true. Soft white, daylight, Flourescent light....you name it, it covers the whole temperature spectrum. Whereas before with regular bulbs you had to choose a temperature and stick with it, you just dial up what you like with these bulbs. Love them so far. And, oh yes...one more thing. If you are going to buy a few, buy the multi packs on Best Buy's website as a pack of 4 is $196 rather than buying 4 bulbs individually at $60/each for a total of $240 (much cheaper). If you still feel you need to compare them after my review, buy one of each brand and a hub for Philips HUE and try them out for yourself. I think if LIFX had better marketing and more product on the shelves in Best Buy they would be the clear winner of which bulb sells more. However, Philips is killing LIFX on marketing and using the fancy packaging in stores. Go for the LIFX over Philips...you won't regret your decision.

I had some setup issues at first. I have four lights in one room and they had issues staying connected to my Wi-Fi (the issue is not with my Wi-Fi signal). The bulbs are mounted in the ceiling in metal cans which doesn’t help. Anyway, after a day the issues disappeared. I was about to return them because they’re expensive but now that they’re working as expected I couldn’t be happier. Easy to use with the iPhone app. The effects are cool but we don’t use them much. We have them in our TV room in a finished basement. We can have the TV portion dark for viewing and the non-TV side lit for other activities, like reading or games.

Other smart lights I've used are disappointingly dim when you switch to a fun color, but the LIFX bulbs stay bright no matter what color you choose. Plus, they're easy to install, the app works well, and they're relatively affordable compared to other high-end smart lighting options on the market.

Pros: Great mood lighting Make and save your own themes Dimmable (but don't use with a dimmer switch) Rich colors Some cool pre-canned effects, i.e. Flicker, Color Cycle, Spooky, etc. (these are customizable) consume very little power I like the simple app No hub needed Convenient to turn on and off all lights in the house at once. Geo fence. Lights will come on for you, or the kids, just by pulling into the driveway. Safety feature. Keep your phone by your bed. If you hear a bump in the night you can very quickly turn on any light, room full of lights or all lights. At 25% power, in color mode, they are burning less that a watt each. I like that you can turn the I.R. mode off. With I.R. on, below around 9 watts your power consumption will jump from 0.5 watts to 7.6 watts. Even when you believe the light are off - they aren't really. They are giving off I.R. light and burning 7.6 watts each. Grouping lights by room and by house. Great for entertaining. You can put up some soothing, cozy colors. They really set the atmosphere - when you have enough of them. Decorate your room, or house, with light. Best with white or off-white walls. Cons: They are heavy. I can see the horizontal arms, under the lamp shades, holding the sockets sagging under the weight. Most light sockets were designed for an incident bulb that weighs next to nothing. These Lifx bulbs replaced normal 40 watt equivalent or 4 watts LED bulbs that also weighed next to nothing. They can often loose connection, although I haven't noticed as much of that lately. I probably returned at least a dozen that would never connect or stay connected even after bulb resets. (Turn on and off 5 times) They get pretty hot for an LED bulb. The 4 watt bulbs barely got warm and that's good for your AC. For best signal the router manual says: "Place the router away from large glass surfaces." If your light bulb is enclosed in a ceiling fixture, chances are it's behind glass. But that's not why mine are only in table and floor lamps. Also not due to the builder-grade ceiling lights with weak, flimsy assembly between the socket and the light fixture. Although if I tried installing one in a ceiling fixture - that might become a reason. When you turn on a light switch, your probably doing it because you need light. My Lifx light would come on set to Red or Blue, etc. at 25% power. This does not work if you turned on the light to look for something. So you have to go find your phone and open the app, set it to White, turn up the brightness. That's not convenient. So ceiling lights are for actual light and table and floor lamps are for mood lighting. With the weird shape, they won't work with every fixture. They barely fit under some of the Tiffany shades. Some of the shades had to be raised a small amount to accommodate the squared off corners. If you have a lot. They take up a lot of spots on your router. The BR30 version doesn't not completely turn off unless you cut the power. Once your eyes adjust to the dark room, you'll see a very faint glow - even through a translucent lamp shade. It's very dim and not a big deal but it is definitely not fully off. The A19s are all in Tiffany lamps with cut glass shades - so they are behind glass, mostly. Something the router manual says to avoid. The BR30s are in floor lamps with either Alabaster style or cut glass shades. Again, behind glass. The metal arms on the table lamp sockets are metal tubular steel and built solid - yet because these arms are horizontal I can see the arms sagging under the weight. Some of the bulbs are sort of peeking out from under these shades - not so with the LED bulbs that were in these lamps. The socket on one arm actually broke under the weight. I have yet to try and fix that.

LIFX light bulbs have been my go to for about 3 years now. I have every light fixture besides my recessed lighting and I just had my first bulb quit on me. I’m pretty sure it was the oldest one I owned, but still a little disappointing. Great bulbs that offer literally every color option and turn every lamp light dimmable. Lights on a timer, light control from anywhere, they offer every option. A little pricey but they have an easy app and great color.

I love these bulbs. I own quite a few Phillips Hue lights and since moving I wanted something a little brighter than the hue lights because these were going in a higher ceiling. These lights deliver! So much brighter, but the app needs work. More often than not the app can’t recognize the lights and I can’t use them unless I switch to a 2.4ghz signal.

This product is great and easy to set up. I had previously gotten the LIFX+ but realized I did not need to spend extra for night vision considering this was going in my media room. I had also considered using the HUE but do to their poor brightness and color reproduction and the need for a hub I ended up with going with the LIFX bulbs. Pros: Easy to set up. All you do is connect to the bulb via the app, then log into your own wifi network with your home internet password and there you go it is set up. Colors: the colors are great, bright and pretty much cover every hue, yes even green Features: you can change colors, use strobe, have it flicker, create custom themes and even use it as a strobe light App: very easy to use and self explanatory Cons: none, but then again if you want full usability from these bulbs you must have a wifi connection which I am sure 99.9% of the people wanting this bulb have.
