I personally think this movie is one of the best horror movies ever! The cinematography was good, dark scenes pretty clear, intense sound effects well achieved. All in all you get everything you want from a jump scare movie with Lights Out, with a good plot and good actors that deliver, and a scare factor we all can relate to. You might not be so happy with turning of your lights going to bed later that night, so if you have a weak stomach you might wanna sit this one out.

    Near Flawless Horror

And by near, I mean, this film achieved what it set out to be, a spooky jump scare flick. It's not going to change the world, it's not really going to haunt you for days, but it is very well made and is a much better bet than a lot of other studio horror films. The film, you've probably seen one just like it, is your typical Blumhouse jump scare--J-Horror clone. If you enjoyed that bygone era, it's nice to see some of the tropes done better here. But that's all this is. Of course the only true flaw is going to be the film's design. It was never going to be more than it aimed to be.

I was a bit hesitant to buy the movie because of things I have heard and read about it. Mixed reviews scared me a bit since I'm very OCD when it comes to "horror" movies. I saw the short this was based on and liked it so I decided to go ahead. The movie did not disappointed me. Sure, it isn't a masterpiece but it's something new and fresh and it doesn't have the common "jump scare" that most horror movies have nowadays. This is truly a new aspect to horror cinema and I recommend it.

I love movies, and always get my hopes up when a new movie comes out that finds new twists not previously explored. "Lights Out" definitely put a new spin on the classic haunt tale, but in the end I felt a bit disappointed by the formulaic explanation of the haunting. And while the 81 minute run time seems short, I have to say I was looking forward to the film's conclusion by about the 45 minute mark. I'd give it 3½ stars if the Best Buy rating system allowed "in between" ratings.

Horror movies have been on the decline for awhile now. But that hasn't stopped me from being a fan of the genre. This movie is a throw back to the days old. When we as kids were afraid of what lurked in the shadows and when you were afraid of going in the basement alone. The main horror character was terrifying. The settings where the action takes place were creepy. The characters are well played and the storyline is great. Some of the screens had my heart racing in anticipation of what was to come. If you enjoy horror movies do yourself a favor and pick this one up. I found it really enjoyable.

Lights Out is produced by James Wan and directed by the same man who gave us the short film the movie is based on. I can't go into detail without spoiling any part of the story, but I have to say, this movie truly plays into the fear of the dark in spades. The only negative about this movie is that there are a couple cliches, but other than that, it's a lean mean machine of terror that knows not to dwell on dumb subplots. A must-see and own for horror and film fans.

Not a bad little horror flick (compared to the current competition). Another scary movie, however, where too much is revealed, kind of diminishing the end results. Use of lighting is pretty neat. The first scene of the movie is particularly well done. Cool use of sound cues. Home watching is likely best enjoyed in a home theater or with 5.1 surround set up.

If you like creepy and scary, then this one is for you! I watched it and my family chickened out. It had just enough of the unexpected to make you sit up a bit or hide your eyes. As well as, some of the things that scared me as a kid: scared of looking under the bed, seeing things out of the corner of your eye and just plain being stuck in the dark.

Really like Maria Bello and her performance as mom without taking meds was good. Relatively shorter film packed with suspense! I normally look for/freak out at figures in the shadows so this was right up my alley. You may need a night light after seeing this.

I bought this movie not knowing what to expect. I had only seen previews on TV. That being said, I was very pleased with the "jump" factor that this movie offered. I still like the challenge of being scared and it doesn't happen too often but there were moments in this movie that got the adrenaline flowing again. A lot of fun. Definitely one to watch again. I'm very happy that the deleted scenes were included. They filled in a few questions that I had.

2016 was a spectacular year for the horror/thriller genre. One of the best horror films that came out of the bunch was lights out. James Wan is revolutionizing the horror film genre with titles such as this along with insidious. Even with a pg-13 rating, Wan still manages to push the envelope and get the most out of his films.

Interesting concept to a horror film but wasn't as scary as I hoped it would be. The concept could have been written in a more climatic way to make it super scary but you can tell the budget did not allow for it. I would totally watch it again just because I love all types of horror/thriller films.

directed by one of my favorite youtube directors who made the big time! so awesome to see him and his girl do good PG-13 horror with a bonus feature that includes an alternate ending, and how the trailer was put together to throw you off the scent of what the flm was about!
