Great concept, terrible execution

The idea/concept is great. The pen is very professional looking however the ink it comes with is cheap. The ink it came with I had to replace. The replacement inks are expensive (I'd be okay with this if they were functional... but they're not) the cap that holds the stylus is not efficient either. The rubber falls off the cap.. leaving your pen ugly. If you want to buy a replacement they cost $15. Yes, 15 dollars... check this.. it costs $7 to ship these... when they send it through postal mail which costs them probably .50 cents.
Emailed their customer support to see if they could waive the shipping and they said no, offered to provide my own shipping label they said no... that it costs SEVEN DOLLARS to ship a 1 gram pen cap through the postal service. Great technology, terrible company, terrible execution of product, terrible customer service. Very antiquated company that hasn't adapted to this day and age with the internet. I hope people read these reviews and do not purchase from this company.

Glitchy: needs work

I was hoping this newer model would be an improvement on the older Echo model, and it some ways it is. The pen shape and ink quality are slightly improved; the twist on/off is a nice touch; it looks cooler than the old Echo.
However -- and this is a big but, dotty -- the recording functions are super glitchy! I was not able to successfully record both audio and notes after the first test. This model requires a device with an active phone number (my iPhone, not my unlocked Nexus6p), and it uses that device's microphone to record, that device's data (for what?), and that device's storage space to hold the data from the pen. Surely an hour long lecture or meeting note would wipe out just about anyone's available storage space?
I tried this with my active iPhone, a retired iPhone, my iPad3, and Nexus6p. I have 10 minutes of recording on my iPhone from a 45 minute test.
Additionally, I bought this special edition kit -- and the tool belt was missing! So the product review drops another star for not having any quality control. (sigh)
PRO: looks cool
CONS:
- glitchy
- uses my device's storage, data, and microphone
- still clunky
- ink still skippy/rough to write with
- double check the contents of your box carefully!

LiveScribe smart pen is an excellent buy for the individual that juggles several groups/functions that require multiple meetings and note taking. LiveScribe helps keep all of your notes organized and in one electronic location. The pen itself is sturdy and writes very smoothly. I would prefer if the point on the pen was finer.

I was expecting a little more recognition of continuity between lines. Having to cut each line out vs. a page or paragraph is challeging. It almost isn't worth it given the work to convert a meeting's worth of note's afterwards. May have been easier with a computer and old fashion recorder. Also doesn't work with Kindle devices.

I loved the idea behind this concept and wish it would work for me. The pen seemed okay but for the price I was hoping for a better feel or more heft to the pen. I wanted to use this at work for meetings and such but could not get myself to overcame the learning curve. It could be a better fit for someone else though.

Overall pretty good, if you are a disciplined user. The cap that unveils the USB should be hinged instead of removable.
