I read reviews on the Luma on CNET, Amazon, Best Buy etc. and was excited to solve the wifi dead zones in my house but to no avail. The system flat won't work if you have ISPs in the Midwest (specifically Cable One or MidCo).
I work in IT so I have some experience and additional troubleshooting ideas, I also enlisted several networking professionals to assist and we were never able to get it to work. Luma support was very friendly and called back, escalated the issue but informed us that they need to make some changes so that it would work with our provider. I had reached out to our tech community groups and had 4 different individuals tell me they tried Luma but none were able to get it to actually connect to the internet.
Very disappointed, obviously.

"Unplug your cable modem, 6 times, does not get seen, no formal documentation for specifics for installation other than app kid screens, call support, all they do is type queries into database. No info for any followup return support callback, not ready for prime time. DO NOT BUY

I bought this without reading the reviews, and purely on recommendations from the bestbuy clerk. Big mistake. I have a house about 5000 square feet with 3 levels, this product is meant for smaller homes, I would need 20 of these to cover my house. I could only get it connected to the main node at about 20 feet. The help desk was actually very responsive and tried to help, but after a frustrating 24 hours I returned this and got the VELOP. That worked perfectly with the 3 nodes (one main and two peripherals) now cover my entire house and the signal is perfect everywhere in the house.

This premise is good but this is a completely locked down system. It has it's own IP address you cannot change period and Luma tech support acted surprised when I told them this but even though it is wireless it loves to take over my wired network and change the IP address to its network so suddenly I'd lose all connectivity to printers, Nest, etc and this was way. It also constantly drops signal and slows to a crawl. I bought two sets thinking they'd be great. Might as well burn the $600 I spent.

I purchased these Luma routers and had to call customer service 4 times during the set up process alone. Not until the 4th technician was I told that they were "out of date" and updates will take about an hour. After everything was up and running they wouldn't connect to one another what so ever, they could have been 20 feet away, 10 feet away, or even 5 and still nothing would work. So I brought them back and got a Netgear Nighthawk router instead which should have been my first choice.

Absolutely horrible. I have one gigabit U-verse at my home and it degraded my Wi-Fi speed to under 50 MB/second. With the uvsere wifi system I was getting over 700MB and with my AirPort Extreme I was getting anywhere between 600-800. I couldn't even stream Netflix anymore. I tried multiple configurations. Nothing worked. Couldn't return this fast enough.

Worked great for 2 weeks, but without any change on my end, lost all speed and units started going offline. Spent a week with LUMA support (including replacing a HUB that had a "rare hardware problem), but problems persist. Went back to my original nighthawk setup and all is fine again. Too bad the problems started after Best Buys return window closed.

Great Product for Common User

I am rating this product primarily based on the fact that I am a bit tech illiterate as an accountant. I have been through the hassle of setting up wifi routers in the past where it takes me more than an hour to get it properly set-up. Once it is set-up I then pray that I do not experience a power outage or any other type of interruption in my internet service that could potentially lead me to go through the set-up process again. Then you only seem to get a spotty wifi experience at best. I currently live in a 1,350 square foot condo. We are paying for 50 mbs. from our service provider. Prior to Luma, we could only get about 20 down and 5 up in our living room close to where our router was located. (based on information from the speedtest app and not the Luma app).
Not to mention, we previously had no signal in our bedroom or the guest bedroom. Getting a consistent signal in the kitchen or near the dining room table was even a stretch. Ever since we got on board with Luma, our internet experience has completely changed. We got the Luma 3-Pack and it has truly made a difference in our condo. The set-up was easy (took no more than 10 minutes using the app), which I would imagine is a significant improvement over other products for the average consumer. Additionally, our internet speeds have improved significantly since the installation as we have Luma pentagons spread evenly throughout our condo. We now get 90 down and 10-15 up in our living room, which are speeds that are much higher than what we are paying for from our cable provider. We are also getting around 58-59 down and 11-12 up in our bedroom and guest bedroom.
I have read a lot of reviews on here that knock Luma for the lack of functionality and limitations of the application. The first thing I would remember is that this is a new product so I am sure that they are working on building additional functionality in to the application for smart phones. If you want a review from a common user of wifi that has multiple devices then this is more what this is. I would imagine that only the techie type or gamers (which I would imagine make up less than 25% of the individuals that would purchase this product) would care significantly about the other functionalities of the router and the app. Overall, I am very pleased with the product and would purchase it again.

This is a good product in theory and for those that want NO control go for it. There is good coverage, but there is a lack of manual setting, and all you get when you talk to support is that it's on the road map. Returned the product and went a different route with my router choice.

Re-Defines Home WiFi

Luma WiFi has redefined our home network. I set up a 3-pack in 10 minutes and now have blazing fast full-bar WiFi at home covering 3 floors and slightly more than 4,500 sq ft of home. We previously could not get coverage in our finished basement as well as our master bedroom, and Luma has now brought a full strength signal throughout every corner of our home. Speeds are around 15% - 20% better than our previous router (ISP provided router) was giving us.
I'm not sure why all the negative reviews, as the Luma set up could not have been easier or more straight forward (it even told me where to place each Luma), and the app is intuitive and simple to use. Maybe I just don't require the advanced networking features some are complaining about, but we have 27 devices in our home connected with Luma without a glitch, and I'd prefer that any day versus the need to go in and start messing with network settings I know nothing about.
Highly recommended.

This was the worst mesh network I have tested. I'm tech savvy, and even though I followed the directions it didn't work as easily as it should have. The speed was also very slow and dropped considerably with distance, unlike the Google WiFi.

This item is supposed to help with wifi in the home, I had to return this and spend a little bit of money on a good router.
My wife & kids complained about the wirless the entire time we had this junk!

I have had Luma in my home for about a week and absolutely love it!! We have a 3 level home which has experienced dead spots in certain areas and trouble streaming as well. We installed a Luma on each level to maximize coverage and it is amazing! Luma was very easy to set-up. Although, I ran out of ethernet ports on our modem, so I called Luma customer service for help and they were great! They recommended I purchase a 5-port gigabit switch ($20) and it solved the problem. My internet speed has improved drastically and is consistent throughout the home. Amazing!
I have young children who each have their own devices and love the option to monitor and control internet usage and set restrictions on each individual device. The Luma iPhone app is very intuitive and easy to use. I can go on the app from anywhere and see who is on the network and have the ability to interrupt it at any time. I can only imagine what Luma will do next. It is a great product and am thrilled with its performance!

Product ads claim advanced security features that don't exist. For a router it also lacks basic features. The mobile app was also buggy. Finally it made no improvement for the dead spot in my back bedroom.

I got the three pack of the Luma home wi-fi system. I needed it because our house had spotty wifi and rather than just buy singular wi-fi extenders, this system appealed because of it was easy to set up, the units are easy to hide and the parental/wifi controls are great! I love that I can shut down the internet during family time and control what the kids access on their tablets. Easy to set up right out of the box, extends the signal to all corners of the house, easy to give control who has access to our network and ability to monitor what our kids can access are all awesome features!!!
