It's Juke-a-licious

I decided to boycot Madden games when they took the rights to the NFL from the other game companies and if I hadn't received this as a birthday gift from my girlfriend, I wouldn't have given it a chance. I've been playing it everyday since the 14th of August.
I absolutely love the juke stick/hit stick as it makes running so much easier. In actuality, I like every aspect of the gameplay. It's really easy to pick up on the controls and audibles are quite easy to manage with the on-screen menus. The team introductions at the beginning of each game really gets you pumped to play. Did I mention graphics were pretty fine looking? Sure, they look better in the replays than they do during the actual plays, but the full capabilities of the PS3 haven't been discovered yet.
I would have liked to see better pre-game, halftime, and post-game "shows". Or at least a weekly show covering the entire league. This is the only reason that I gave Madden 08 4 stars instead of 5. I'd definitely recommend football lovers to get this. Great job on EA's part!

After having purchased Madden on a next gen system for the first time this year i can safely say it's one of the best sports experiences I've had yet. But after having recently played the version for XBOX 360, I'm a bit disappointed that EA did not include 60 frames per second on the PS3 version as opposed to the 30 fps that it currently has. Besides that though, the gameplay is significantly better than any iteration of Madden yet. We're talking group tackles that look real, non-sketchy animations that have plagued previous versions, and the Icon feature adds some depth to the game. This years version expands of Franchise and Legend Mode which is a welcomed addition. Ultimately Madden will not disappoint if you're a sports gaming fan or football fan. A good pickup.

I've been a Madden fan since it was on the Genesis back in '90. I know my football and when I bought this Madden for the PS3, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! Yes, the graphics are good, but I've always been a gameplay type person. The game play isn't good and the frame rate is very slow. Everything is a half a second slow. You press "X" to throw to a wide receiver and a half a second later, he throws. By that time, the defense is in position. I don't like how the ball goes through a defenders hands and wrist when he's trying to knock a pass down. On a scale from 1-10, I give this game a 6.5...7 at the most. I played it on the 360, and it plays very smooth and has a very good frame rate. The PS3, in my opinion, is a better system, so I don't understand why the frame rate couldn't be better on the PS3. I took the game back and purchased Madden for the PS2, so Im happy for now. If you are a TRUE Madden expert, I wouldn't recommend this game.

Not as good as PS2

I love Madden football. That in itself has made me buy the game since the 90's. It's still a good game, but weak for an PS3 game. Not much different than any other Madden PS2 game. Taking away the ability to watch my team play without my assistance is disappointing. I like the franchise control I have, but having to download the roster to keep it from freezing up is a hassle. Also, the more seasons you play the weaker the player rating becomes. IE, by the time I got to year 2017(I got a lot of time on my hands being disabled), there were no players that exceeded the 70's in the draft or free agency. Almost as if programmers were forced into quantity rather than quality. To me the PS3 Madden 08 is not worth the extra 10-20 dollars with the expectation of even a better year as has always been the case. It's still fun, but I'm not as happy as I hoped. Buy the PS2 version of Madden 08. Yesm, I own it too!

This game lives up to the whole "Madden Reputation" as in its the same game we've all come to love. But then again its the same ole madden we've been playin for years jus newer and better graphics. One of the things they hav fixxed in this years version is that the Bomb uptop to T.O. doesnt work anymore, but then again they also made this game a little too DEFENSE DOMINATED. Its fun to compete and talk trash to yours friends like you always do in your home madden games but thats all its really good for. After a while it gets borin and jus another game to put on ur shelf and brag about havin to your friends. Hopefully next year's versoin will hav some new things to kick it up a notch.

+excellent graphics, the uniforms are nicely colored to depict their real life counterparts uniforms, the SHINYNESS of the uniforms is a bitt too much but that doesnt matter.
+excellent overall presentation, period. the menu's are easy to navigate, the team select screen is Very Attractive and everything is candy for the eyes.
+the running game is great, its like real football when the RB pounds it up the middle for a pickup of 5, excellent job...
-half the time i hiked the ball, i was tackled by 3 defensive linemen within a half of a second, it was as if my offensive line was not there at all :l
-there is a glitch where if you throw the ball to a reciever and a defender sticks his hands infront of the ball to intercept it, the ball will GO THROUGH BOTH OF HIS HANDS AND WRISTS and into the hands of the reciever...and iv watched the replay and slowed it down enough to see the ball travel through both of the defenders hands/wrists....terrible. this glitch is actually in NCAA Football 2008 as well...but that glitch is farrr worse than this one.
-some of the players movements are not realistic at all, they run like theyve got something stuck in their butts, very mechanical movement.
-the sideline players and the crowd look terrible...especially for the 360, they could have done better than that...
-as well as the faces of the players, theyre very Rock-like and do a poor job of capturing emotion. All-Pro 2k8 did an EXCELLENT job at this...
this was a great rental but because of the ball traveling through hands glitch..and for the fact that im STILL playing NFL2K5 Religiously...and tampering with the idea of purchasing all pro 2k8 now that its only 30 bucks at wal-mart :l this game is an easy skip over. NOT THAT ITS NOT FUN...if youv got two players and you want to get a game going, this game is great for that...but in my opinion all-pro is graphicly and gameplay-wise a better game...as well as nfl2k5...
great looking game though :)

This game is a great game. A must buy for the sports fans. BUT BUYERS BEWARE!!! This game is an offensive game. Defense is easy to pass on for the most part and hard to run on. I have been playing madden since '98 and loved it every year and this year is no different. The online play is good except for the kicking which is nothing new to the series. One thing i suggest for playing online is going to www.leaguedaddy.com and trying to find a league to play in. These leagues set up schedules, rankings, playoff systems. Its just like an actual NFL season. They do the same thing for NCAA.

I play madden alot for the ps3 and when a new game is coming out it is like christmas for me, but when i got this game a can easily say i was dissapointed. the graphics are great and the gameplay is great but the plays are complicated and i can barely see the playbook, and picking the formations was tough to figure out as well. Other things i dint like about this game is that there wasnt any good celebrating after a game. there was nothing that grabbed my eye. The super bowl game didnt even have any kind of differnt celebrations like the older games had. So yes the the gameplay was good but there just wasnt any other things in this game that really caught may attention or wanted me to play the game more.

This is still a great game and I will continue to buy the new versions yearly...despite not many changes besides for personnel. My complaint in this game is that the fumbling seems to be off the charts for people that in real life don't put the ball on the ground. The game is more competitive playing the computer at least so that it's not a complete anhialation. I can't wait to see what they keep making better about the game, hopefully the make the online quicker so there isn't such a delay.

Good Game, but does not meet the hype

The game itself is good, but as with all Madden Games it has it's quirks. The game play is a little on the slow side, the announcers are annoing, for example, you get in the red zone, it's first and goal, every down before the snap the announcers will say "they are now in feild goal range", or "this appears to be a makeable kick" it gets old quick. Online play is good, I not crazy about the kicking on line, there is a little bit of lag in it. But other then these things I think the game is fun as all Madden Games, they have added alot of new features, but unfortuitly they have removed some also.

EA sports continue to stay above the rest of the competition when it comes to NFL football. I have been a Madden addict since it was released in '89 and one of the main reasons is EA's ability to enhance the Madden product every year.
All right here is what's up with Madden '08. Graphics are much improved, as expected, in-game play is much the same although unless there is an option to turn it on I believe the QB vision has made an early exit. Training during franchise mode has improved drastically allowing you to train multiple Players through out the entire season with more NFL Combine like tryouts.
Deeper into the business side are of cores Hire/Fire coach, Training staff, and the newly added “Scouting” which to tell you the truth I have not figured out yet, but I love the concept. Rebuilding stadiums have taken on a new life with different designs, but upgrades and relocation have stayed the same. The draft had a little improvement while the rest of the off-season continued to look familiar. I am sure I have overlooked something, but I gave you the meat of the game it’s up to you to get up and purchase it to find the gravy.

Menu navigation out of games is terrible.
Gameplay is a huge step above last year's game. Similar to NCAA 08 if you own it. Really miss the cleaver remarks of Madden and Michaels. The EA Radio guy is boring.
Online is really nice and the serious gamers will really like it.
Superstar mode offers a camera angle to view the field now.
Only dissapointments are commentary and menu navigation

Madden has put out another solid game. This years version include player "weapons" which distinguish the great players from the good. Gameplay is great but unfortunately not as smooth as the Xbox 360 version, 30 fps for the ps3 version as opposed to 60 fps for the 360 version. I have played both and the 360 version is smoother. This is still a must buy for any football lover.

The gameplay is much different. It's smooth and extremely realistic. The defense actually holds its own. The only peeve I have on Madden 08' is the online gameplay. There are way to many delays and frozen moments which sort of disengages the user, but with SO many other options, it's not a significant loss. Madden is hands down STILL the king of pro football franchises.

The madden games never interested me, until i got an HDTV and that made a difference. The characters are in detail and the grass never looked more alive. Just becareful in online mode since most people know how to beat the system and make it difficult to be beating, it's no fun after a while. Other than that, it's a game worth investing in for playing your friends.

I love the Madden series and look forward to see what each new release adds to the game. The graphics are phenomenal and the game play is very similiar to last years version of Madden. New features include mini games, read and react modes and new player moves. Overall I think this is a great game. At first I was not sure if it was completely worth the money since I own last years version but the more I play the more I am finding new features that make it worth every penny.

I have always enjoyed the Madden series. When I first played the PS3 version it took a while to get used to, but once I got used to it, I really find it to be a solid football game. Good graphics, although I feel the 07 version for PS3 had better graphics, except for the fans. This year is good, especially the superstar mode. I recommend this game.

Before you read I would like to remind you I mostly talk about Franchise mode. EA sports should have focused on improving the things in 07. The Madden for PS2, i think, is better then this. They should have gotten rid of the role thing in the offseason in franchise mode or made it faster. They focus too much on graphics. When you are playing someone else the playcalling seems like it gives the play away. I wish they would go back to the screen where you have three plays to chose from. It seems like the weapons thing is kind of ridiculous too. You can just throw it up to Larry Fitzgerald and he will catch it almost all the time. It seems unrealistic. There are other things that are annoying. You can only have one profile that keeps your settings for team offense and defense. You can't reorder your depth chart automatically. It doesn't show you what your draft pick's ratings are in the screen that you sign them in. It seems a little difficult to sign the exact coach you want. I also wish there were real commentators too, not just the stadium guy. There are some pluses though. The off-season in Franchise Mode is way faster. The Espn sports ticker and Espn radio sportscenter is cool.

Gameplay is fun, but there still seems to be some bugs to work out. The cutscreens look a little washed out. Animation in the stands and sideline are laughable.
There is a learning curve for an older guy like me that hasn't played a Madden title in several years.
AI seems pretty intuitive. I haven't tried online yet.

I have been a die hard Maddenite since 89. However I was a bit dissappointed with its latest addition on the PS3. You can tell that they sacrificed the gameplay for improved graphics and abilities. It seems like you are always running in mudd. Great looking game but for the $599 I shelled out for the PS3, I was expecting much more. Why cant the speed of the older PS2 game be on a system that costs twice as much!
