Customers frequently mention the enjoyable gameplay and large map sizes as significant strengths of MAG Greatest Hits. However, many also cite the game's graphics and occasional lag issues as weaknesses. The limited gun selection also received some criticism. Teamwork is highlighted as an important element of the game experience.

Like some of the other reviewers, I believe like in other games, some players will not work together as a team. I have seen some people even killing there own team mates in the beta I am participating in. The final product I hope will allow people to get voted out.
Other than team work this game is going to be one to add to my collection.
Game On!

Really enjoyed the Public Beta

So, I joined the public Beta released on ps3 about a week ago, I've had a blast. This game is very team based a rewards your squad by staying together and working as a team. It runs very smooth and even tho the graphics aren't polished like cod 4. It can't be, it plays 256 people online fighting at once with vehicles, air attacks, mortar strikes I mean you name it its going on...and it never slows down. I just wish people would keep in mind it was a Beta, which is basically a test run to test for flaws, glitches, and test server stress. So yeah there will be lag in a beta but I can promise I'm a lvl 24 and the only time i experienced lag was the first day when servers crashed for a few hours but since it has been running smooth. Shooting is not Auto-Assisted, so you have to aim yourself, anyone who plays a shooter can respect this, I love the accesories for your guns, the bipod you actually have to deploy and then can't move past a certain point or you have to undeploy and move like a real bipod. It's a small thing to get excited about I know but its the little things that count. The Groups are good and well balanced, and the levels are overall pretty even but do require some planning and fore thought. Nothing compares to takes Orders from a Squad leader or platoon leader and then coordinating a well thought out plan and just steam rolling the other team. At the least you should rent , this game is worth it. However there is a slight learning curve so the first few levels of your character it may take some time to the character set up and skill point system it wasn't explained well, and so it took me a minute to grasp the concept but I'm sure in the full version it will come with a booklet that will further explain not to mention the training missions will be open and playable so that should also help with the curve.

One of the best online shooters out there!

MAG is a tactical online FPS, where being part of a good team is very important. This is online only title, in which you can play with up to 256 players. The game handles this well without any lag. Graphics are not the best out there, but can be compared to COD4.
I've enjoyed this game a lot more than recent COD:MW2, with its twitchy arcade style gameplay with only 18 players.
I recommend this game to anyone looking for a great tactical online shooter, or someone who is tired of COD recent title.

Honestly, there is absolutely NOTHING like this game out there on any platform. Never before has a video game captured the essence of war like MAG does. 8 maps (could use a few more, and I'm sure we will get some in the future) and they're huge and well constructed. You get split up in 8 person squads; with someone as the squadleader; and someone as the platoon leader. Here's where it gets amazing...each squad is given an objective to accomplish, be it defending a certain position on defense, or attacking an area on offense. The squad can talk amongst each other to coordinate this attack, and the platoon leader and squad leaders can coordinate the whole battlefield!! Air strikes and mortor strikes are called in. If you take out an enemies air defense systems, you can actually parachute in to the battle for a more tactical insertion.
The Weapons??? My biggest complaint in most first person shooters is believability, hit physics detection on your enemy, and ease of use. MAG absolutely nails all of these. My only gripe is having to "equip" a grenade or other piece of equipement instead of it being just a hot key or a usable button. I can overlook it quickly though, due to the intense and quick paced action of this title.
Lag?? Doesn't exist. I'm serious!! These other reviewers must still be on dial up or something. It runs 256 players....SMOOTH.
The customization of weapons and abilities is very good, and the game rewards you skill points based on your combat performance in order to purchase upgrades. Keeps you interested and wanting to play even more. I really thought that i was finally growing out of the video game phase (i'm 34 by the way), but MAG has lit a spark under me and I won't be putting this one down for a long long time. It's totally worth your cash. Pick it up and joing the battle.

During the first open beta I played this game for about 30hrs. There are many things I like about the game a few things I don’t. One of the things I like the most is your weapon load out option. Strategy takes place from the start. In your load out you have a weight limit for the weapons and armor. This to me makes the game fair because you can’t just pick the best armor, the most powerful gun, a rocket launcher, grenades, and a medic kit and so on. You have to sacrifice some equipment to get others. The game play, to me is great. In my experience, during the last few days of beta, load times for a game were less than a min. when you are brought into the game lobby you are only there with other players on your team. This is big to because if you guys played other fps shooters you know pregame lobbies are full of n bombs and other stuff. During the game one of the biggest complaints I hear are about the distance of spawn points and the spawn time. The distance is not too far from the action but far enough to almost insure that you will never have to deal with spawn campers. Also the spawn times can go up to 15 seconds only if you are the only player dead. This is also good because it prevents you from having to travel back to the poi alone. These so called issues about spawning also promote team work. If you want to win you better have people on your team willing to help bring you back to life before you bleed out. Another problem I here is people not having a mic. I have to things to say about this. One, there is a clan option. I don’t know if it will be as extensive as socom but nonetheless it’s there and it’s something almost all fps lack. Second, this was a beta. That means it was free. That means everyone and there momma could be "trying this game out". When the game is released, and only players who like the game will be playing, there will be far more users with mics then without. The graphics are decent. But I still think they are better than games like halo that rely on blocks with bright colors. I also experience almost no lag. During the 256 player maps there were some frame rate issues. But I guess that’s to be excepted when you have 100 players in one area launching grenades and gunning it out.
If you are a cod addicted and loves a run a gun one shot in the foot and your dead style game that involves zero strategy no matter how much you try to put a game plan together style game and you don’t want to have to put effort into getting wins then this is probably not the game for you.
One big thing to remember is that the beta was only 3gbs. From what I’m reading the actual game will be over 30. So there is gonna be a lot more than what people have experienced so far.

Being a long time fan of Zipper Interactive (mainly from SOCOM) I had to get this game. I like playing with 256 people at the same time, although you still only see about half of that due to the different squads being in different locations within the same map. It's nice to be able to level up and unlock the abilities to call in air strikes and other strategic maneuvers. However, the graphics are not the best, most likely due to the size of the maps and the amount of people playing. In order to make things this large something had to be sacrificed. Unfortunately, this was the graphics quality. It's not terrible, just not great. I would call it somewhere between PS2 and PS3 graphics capabilities. The skill points are a little annoying. Each time you level up you are given a skill point to spend on something of your choice. It could be upgrading a gun or increasing your sprinting speed, etc. I'm still waiting on SOCOM 4 since Zipper is back on that one. I would recommend this game since it's so massive and each time you play is different.

First of all i amnot going to base this game on call of duty like some of the other reviews wich were not helpfull at all that being said i will get to the point now 265 players in one multiplayer map looks like a magnet to consistent lag well it Does Not !! one interesting feature in the game is the leaderboard system because it is based on overall performance not the points you have gained from kills wich is pretty cool i also like how the maps are huge wich makes the battle more intense the graphics are pretty good but it was sacraficed for the massive player count wich i understand now this game is no were near call of duty but does not mean this game is game is awfull overall i think this game is great

Great game to plat if you love FPS, the graphic is so -so, but many features that I love is the ability to shoot down on coming air-strikes that most games don't have. No more crying for somewhere to take cover! It's a hit or miss moment! The level of difficulty depends on the person playing the game. I don't think it is hard. In fact it's about the same as C.O.D on veteran mode for me which was easy to beat on a PS3. The other issues is lack of communication between players. Some players tends to be "Heroes" and jump into battle like a crazy maniac with a gun and ruin an entire strategic plan. Also people who have no mics... use body language please... shoot the ground or something to get somebody's attention, or go buy a ps3 headset. All- in-all this game is a must have if you desire large battles online and love to play strategic battles.

Very awesome game. Play Sabotage not Domiantion! Sabotage had the fastest Que up in the beta but considering only about 350 players played Domination and about 300+ For each side played Sabotage (32 vs 32) Domination would have the longest que up as only about 120 players played Domination as Raven, 250 players played as S.E.V.R and about 300 Players played as VALOR so finding a Domination game in the BETA for Raven took a long time.
I played most of my 20 Hours in game in Sabotage and only played DOMIANTION twice. Game is very enjoyable. MIC However is a MUST! If you don't have a MIC.. go BUY ONE! <_< This is one of those games that NEED a MIC.

First off, it does not copy MW2. It just seems that way when you play as Valor. It starts off a little slow, but after you get going, it is really fun. The amount of teamwork the game seems to really focus on is lacking, but when you get a good group in your squad it is a lot more fun. It also lets you respec your skill points that you use to get new weapons and stuff so if you decide to change your mind on something you can. The graphics anen't quite the best(a little cartoonish) but they are very smooth. I have also never lagged out of a game. I had a litle lag once but it was ok. I lag out of other games like call of duty all the time. Overall, great game.

I just wanted to say that all the people who say this game sucks doesnt even know what they are talking about. For example, yes I love Call of Duty but its so unrealistic. All the people who hate MAG like COD because ALL players have Auto-Aim Assist on. So they think they are super pro. But they arent. You just have Auto Aim on. But in MAG everything is realistic. The guns, armors, skills, and maps. And they dont have Auto Aim Assist setting in it. So youll have to rely on yourself predicting where the enemy is going. And people hate games where there is no auto aim, because they are so use to games with the Auto Aim Assist on. And I agree it lacks campaign. But then they wont have enough space on the disc to incorporate 256 online multiplayer setting. So to sum it all up, Buy this game for its realistic and fun qualities. This game can help you become a better player of all FPS games. Call of Duty....they have Auto Aim Assist setting for you to have on or off. So basically the game helps you to aim...not yourself

I purchased MAG on release day and began to play. I read beta reviews and from the sound of it they made the game seem like a 50/50 chance of me liking it. Let me tell you, Best game I have played on a game console yet!! If you are a person who plays Modern Warfare 2 and wishes people would work together or form a strategy and perform that strategy during play than get rid of MW2 and buy MAG!!
Yes, there is the occasional 5th grader who doesn't obey orders but for the most part the people who want a strategy and team work game are playing MAG and therefore listen to the commands and orders given to them. So every now and than you get a bad group but if you find a group that performs well try and add them as friends and play with that group, you wont be disappointed!
The servers are crazy good. I have not lagged once while in a 256 player battle...not once and my internet connection isn't amazing. Also, the graphics aren't as bad as the reviews have made them out to be. apparently the reviewer must of played it on a old tube television. I have a High-def plasma 1080p and I think it looks pretty nice. not as detailed as MW2 but i will take less detail over choppy server.
My last comment is to all those who are thinking about picking up the game because they want to just kill in a 256 player match. This game is NOT TEAM DEATH MATCH!!! it is a strategy game which doesn't always mean get the highest kill death ratio. in fact, if your all time favorite game is modern warfare and you like to snipe all day...please, please don't buy MAG!

This game is great. I have played the Beta and then I bought the game. It's fun, especially since you can play with a ton of people. Many people try to compare it to COD MW2, but its a completely different concept. This is more objective based, which means you have to work as a team wich I like. Some people complain about graphics, they aren't the greatest, but there are 256 players in a room... they aren't amazing graphics, but its still pretty good. Also some guy complained for maitnence, well hes just not very smart, ignore him. It gave a warning during gameplay saying it would be down for 15 minutes for maitnence. It was only down for 15 mins, they had to make sure everything was running smooth. If it didn't get maitnence it probably would have been a bit sketchy. I experienced very little lag in a room of 256 before maitnence. I haven't experienced any lag since (I don't know if that is what they fixed but thats just what happened for me.) Game is fun, although its not just a "run around and shoot" you have to really try to work as a team to get to take over a point, or defend a point. I love it.

I picked up MAG a few days ago at Best Buy after hearing so much about it. What actually intrigued me most was how there seemed to be such a division between who liked the product and who did not. This grabbed my interest since situations like this usually mean a niche type of product (rather than just a standard FPS, for instance), and I usually enjoy these quite a bit. I had heard "great graphics, "horrible graphics", "great team-play", "horrible team-play", etc.. etc.. MAG seemed like such a mixed-bag I had to check it out, and I am glad I did.
MAG has, so far, provided a game-play experience not really like any other I have seen. Sure, MAG is a first-person shooter, but not one like we have seen before. It takes the basic elements of a FPS and adds in more customization and an actual "community" the player becomes a part of. Each side seems to cater to a different style of player. Each of the three PMCs has their own advantages and disadvantages as well as community. Your progress is tracked as you earn skill-points and develop your character. As your skill-points increase, more options are available to customize your character. These customizations include weapons, weapons attachments, skills, equipment, clothing, and camouflage/paint. You can really tailor your character to your play-style and make them your own.
Opinions on the graphics seem to go in either direction depending on each person's opinion. To me, the graphics seem very clean and clear. The environment is not covered up in a huge amount of "bloom"or other "Special" lighting. Environments are detailed and offer quite a few avenues to approach objectives, there are also plenty of spots to attack your opponents from. You really have to stay on your toes in this game since there could be somebody right around every corner. The Immersion level is high and there is a greater feeling of "scale" to the maps of MAG, rather than what most people are used to in standard FPS fare. Character models are well detailed and the rag-doll animation, though a little exaggerated at times, is also quite nice. I really have no complaints about the graphics other than one thing...: Every shot from your weapon seems to be a tracer with a trail. It sort of ruins the immersion at times.
The sounds are well executed. There is a clear pop/bang to the weapons sounds for the most part with the grenades being a particular favorite of mine. The sudden bang/boom is a pleasant change from the other silly grenade sounds out there from other FPSs. Weapons sounds really add to the immersion, and can make a good game that much better (see that, Infinity Ward? Recycled sounds = bad). Overall, I am very impressed with the sounds.
Controls are tight and do not seem to be sloppy at all. I am not a well-seasoned PS3 player and come more from the PC side of the house with some XBOX 360 tossed in there. The PS3 controls have always bugged me for some reason, but I have not had any problem with MAG. The movement and look controls are responsive and allow for a solid amount of control over your players actions. I was very surprised as I was expecting to be all over the place with my aim and movement.
MAG does have some negatives though. First and foremost, you can only create one character at a time. In order to create another player for a different PMC, you have to delete the prior one. Yes, that's right, delete the prior one. What this means is the player is unable to have more than one player at any given time, playing or not. So, in essence, the player really should try out the different PMCs before choosing which one to go with. If you play one for a while and decide to try a different one, you will be required to delete your current charcacter and start over.....this can be a royal pain if you have progressed a ways with your character. This, I am guessing, was done to motivate the player to be loyal to their one team as opposed to always hopping around from side to side. The one redeeming quality to this, as I mentioned earlier, is each of the PMCs does seem to cater to a different play-style/character make-up so once you are with a group you will more than likely stay there. The weapons are different for each PMC as is the look of each group. I would guess the chance of somebody liking Raven (clean-modern) and then all of a sudden liking Sver (rough-guerrilla) is probably fairly far-fetched so the player being locked to one character may not be a big deal to many. Outside of this, MAG is multi-player only. There is no single-player in this game. Not really a complaint, just a statement. If you are looking for any type of single-player activity at all, MAG is not for you. Another shortcomming is the limited customization with regards to your character's look. The face and clothing/armor can be changed, but the hair/eyes/nose/ears/scars/etc.. can not be modified. Each "head" option includes with it a pre-set complexion/ethnicity/set up facial features. Not a big deal to some, but may be an issue for others.
Teamplay online can be a mixed bag, which will always be the case in any online game. There are times where a team is really working together and hitting objectives hard, waxing the other team left and right. Other times, it seems like your team is comprised of a bunch of lonewolf Quake 1 Deathmatch players. This type of play does not work well in MAG. Running around, jumping, and trying to be the "one man army" will get you a whole lot of nowhere really fast. You will die all the time. Running up that hill to "get the big score" will have you charging head-first into 30+ people, probably working as a team, waiting to shoot you. In this game, it does not take an entire clip to kill you either. So, if you are thinking you can run up the previously mentioned hill, adsorb some damage, and still have time to whip out your knife and stab a few people, than the jokes on you.
MAG vs MW2. Outside of the fact that both are video games, both have guns, both are online, and both are set to represent military operations, there is not much to compare. So, if you are looking for a MAG or MW2 bash-fest, than please look elsewhere. They are both different products.
In conclusion, I have really enjoyed this game thus far. Does it have the best graphics? No. Does it have a gripping single-player campaign? No. What it does have is a fun and addictive online component that has grabbed my interest and held it since purchase. I have read reviews online that have referred to MAG as "just not fun". I am not sure where this stems from, but I am assuming (yes I know the breakdown of the word assume) that this mindset is attributed to the fact that MAG is not a run-all over the place-jump everywhere-shoot and knife everybody-type of game. There are other games out there if somebody is looking for that. MAG is directed at the teamwork oriented and slower tactical style pf play crowd. Now, it is now old-school Rainbow 6 type of tactical game-paly, but it does seem much slower paced over all. However, keep in mind that with so many players online, things can get quite hectic. What's strange though is even with the number of players being so high, MAG is still not a "typical" fps, it still maintains somewhat of a slower tactical nature that is difficult to put in words. It is an interesting experience to say the least. The fluid performance ties the whole package together. I have not experienced really any dips in framerate at any time playing MAG. No matter is going on on-screen, the framerate has stayed solid.
Zipper has accomplished quite an achievement with MAG. There is definite room for improvement, but the overall package is solid and fun. MAG does quite a few things very well, rather than doing one thing fantastic and then coming up short in a variety of other areas. Would I recommend this product to a friend? Most certainly.

Last Person's Review is nonsense!

I would doubt the last person who wrote a review for this game and gave it a 2 even played it. I haven't had any frame rate issues and the controls are completely responsive. I don't understand how anyone could experience anything else...maybe if you have an LCD TV that has a slow response time...The graphics, while not amazing, are definitely not last generation quality. You have to make sacrifices in order to put 256 players in one map so you won't see anything like Modern Warfare 2 graphics, but MAG easily looks just as good as any game that was made in 2008 which is still much better than anything on the PS2. I have had A LOT of fun playing this game, and though it works better if you use team tactics it isn't completely necessary and you can still have fun. So PLEASE people, if you are wondering whether to buy this game at least rent it before you take some people's negative remarks as truth. I would bet that you will agree with the comments I have made rather than any negative comments about MAG. Just the feeling of running out with at least 32 other players at once is amazing!

so far this is the best online experiance i have played. there is virtually no lag at all, even with 256 players. team work is the objective so if you are in to call of duty you will need to change your tactics, run and gun doesnt work well here and if you are not helping your team you will probably lose very quickly, unless your team is good enough to make up for your short comings.
the downside to the game is there isnt as many weapons as other shooters like call of duty and all weaopons are almost the same besides cosmetic differences in factions (each factions weapons are about the same but look different). there also are not many vehicles to use unlike bad company 2. if you are looking for an online game i would strongly recommend this game as well as bad company 2, both are worth purchasing and both are extremely fun online.
also VERY IMPORTANT, i have heard some stories of people not being told this or reading it on the box, MAG IS ONLINE ONLY. if you do not have high speed internet capable of playing games on ps3 online DO NOT BUY THIS GAME as there is NO SINGLE PLAYER MODE.
to sum it up, buy it, use team work and help win the war.

MAG is not the kind of online game you can just pick up and be great at. It takes time and some amount of intelligence to be good at it. It has games of 256, 128, 64 or 32, but somehow even in 256 player games you (one person on a team of 128 can make an impact).
I wholeheartedly recommend this game... you'll need to give it a chance however. Like I said in the first sentence, you can't just pick this game up and be good at it. It's an FPS like no other... and it will reward you like no other FPS game is you put in the time and learn the way this game is played. It is a great game to play with friends online. Get your friends and you friends friends together and play!
It seriously is the best FPS game on any console right now if you're looking for a tactical game you can play for years to come. Zipper Interactive has already announced that they are working on DLC. Buy this game. You will not be disappointed.

First off I've never played COD MW2 and frankly am tired of the endless comparo's with it.
This game requires time to truly appreciate and I would recommend leveling up to at least an 8 or above before passing judgement. Once you start upgrading your character the game starts to slow down a bit mentally and you can really dive into the tactics. If you're lucky enough to be apart of a cohesive squad where you systematically engage and defeat one enemy/objective after another you will be hooked for sure!! You can lone wolf on this but do expect a short life span if you do. The graphics are acceptable but not really a selling point of the game, but really, if you're focused on the clarity and resolution of the cover you're hiding behind than you can expect to be taken out via head shot anyhow! :-) The game has gotten progressively better the more I play which is why I reserve a 5/5 until I've really leveled up pretty high. I strongly recommend a mic for optimal gameplay. Overall a great game if you've the patience to let it be!
