I bought this unit to replace my old Magellan Maestro 4700. I was looking for a unit with an updated POI database (the Maestro is no longer supported), more efficient route editing and zoom functions and I really thought the speed limit functions would be very useful. Overall, I really like the new menu structure and how you interact with the unit (i.e. swipe and pinch zoom functions, the ability to instantly zoom out to see your entire route, and the use of the route pause function), but the software database really killed it for me. The roads depicted in the display have random jagged sections everywhere, even when the road itself is perfectly straight. It frequently shows roads expanding from two lanes to four lanes when the road has been a constant lane structure for many miles. As the unit navigates through the jagged display sections (often through roadway intersections), the entire display will "flip" plus or minus 60 degrees of screen rotation. This happens continuously and is very distracting, especially at night. Several roads in my local area (central MS) are not even shown in the database (they do appear accurately in Google Maps, however) and I've already discovered one address I could find, but my Roadmate could not. Additionally, the speed limit display function is all but useless. I would estimate 25% of the speed limits on the roads in my area are accurate. The rest are completely wrong! I often travel on fairly major highways connecting major (by MS and AL standards) towns/cities. These highways all have posted speed limits of either 65 (in AL) or 70 mph (in MS), but my Roadmate often lists the speed limit as 35 mph! These highways are not new, and they connect most of the larger towns in AL and MS. I am very disappointed with the performance of this software/database.
