I picked this up when a Pioneer Elite receiver died suddenly. It's my second Marantz (the other is a slimline in the bedroom), so I had some experience. The sound is great, it's amazingly easy to use, it now features the ability to watch an HDMI video feed while listening to another source (so watch TV while listening to Internet radio), and comes with a number of Internet radio options, as well as the ability to play music from my NAS. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a WiFi connection, so I had to pick up a WiFi to Ethernet bridge to use the network features. A little extra charge, but so far I'm pleaed.

Selected the Marantz Receiver to Support my Home Theatre and Multi-Zone Home Audio Requirements. Use the Marantz and a Speaker Selector to drive 2 Zones, with a total of 12 speakers. Sound Quality is excellent and it's got loads of power to drive all the speakers without requiring an additional ampfilier. Used Geek Squad to Install Audio Components, Sony 55" Television and 12 Speakers in a Pre-Wired New Home. The Marantz runs hot in my Audio Cabinet. I will need to invest in a cooling fan module and/or drill more air holes into the cabinet.

This is a great receiver if you are focused on sound quality and performance. It is also easy to setup. My only two suggestions, 1) provide more sound mode options - I modified game mode for sports, and 2) provide a better remote - would be good to come with a better universal remote.

What a great receiver. It takes all your HDMI cables from the DVD, Blu-ray, CD player, etc., and then you just have one HDMI cable up to the TV. It really cleans up the rats nest of wires that used to be behind the TV. The sound quality is outstanding. I used it with the Pro Cinema 600 speaker setup and the range, purity and quality of the sound is just beautiful. The surround sound on the NEO6 setting is great for movies. Separation and clarity are outstanding. I also really liked the USB port in the front of the unit. I put about 2000 songs on my usb stick and now I have my own juke box with all my music. The setup on the remote is also great. It's well organized and very simple and straight forward to use.

I got this to replace an old Kenwood for my main TV set. After suffering for years without any features, this met all my expectations and has room to grow if I want to add speakers.

I have looked at Marantz equipment for many years and now wish I hadn't waited so long! I previously owned Pioneer and Onkyo AV receivers and felt both of these sounded pretty good, but the Marantz beats them both hands down. The Marantz sound is so much more detailed and dynamic that I now hear sounds never heard in my previous receivers. I was considering a Pioneer Elite AV receiver because the reviews all said it's warm sound set it apart from many others in its price range. Then I researched the Marantz line and all the reviews, both by users and audio experts, gave them glowing recommendations. So, I spent a little more and ended up with a fantastic sounding receiver that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Was looking at a slightly cheaper receiver from another company, but kept coming back to this one, sure glad I bought this one! Very well built, and easy to setup with the tv interface. I am using it as a 5.1 with the front speakers bi-amped, gives me all the power I need. Gives me a very clean and clear sound.

After 4 years there is a high pitched tone/noise in the background. It obviously ruins the experience. This product is also not user friendly. Sound was pretty good while it lasted. It's shame that you can't depend on a $1000 product to last longer than 4 years.

I am very pleased with the quality and features of this unit. However, setting zone 2 (speakers in a separate location) takes two of the 7.1 speakers. Zone 2 only takes analog sources (iPod/USB, TUNER, NETWORK, M-XPort). However, zone 2 may play the same audio as the main zone. Unit does not have a phono input.

If you are looking for a quality entry level high end av receiver this hits the mark. Has most everything you will need and it's very easy to set up. The sound quality is wonderful. I printed the manual for quick reference don't be scared it's thick but logically laid out. Granted it has only one HDMI out but the longer warranty should cover any issues. I love the audio synch feature given all the encoding of signals from satellite and cable systems. Not cheap but worth the cost. FYI it works well with the Martin Logan motion line of speakers.

This is a pretty solid receiver. I can say that the UI takes some getting used to, and I had some trouble initially getting sound from the TV to play through the surround sound speakers. You may need an optical cable to get that to work, and I found that you have to go through the setup again to enable TV sound from that cable. It's what you get for a device with a lot of technical features. It has network connectivity, but only through a hard-wired Ethernet connection. WiFi would be nice, but this model lacks that capability. This is a good receiver for the price.

I had recently bought a Samsung HD TV and wanted to replace my old reciever being it didn't take HDMI so I purchase the Samsung soundbar. It connected wirelessly and did bluetooth but it didn't fill the space with sound as I had hoped. It just seemed flat. It was nice and clean looking but I ended up returning it and purchased the Marantz SR5008. It actually has made my old speakers come to life. I didn't realize how much they weren't doing. In addition, I can upgrade other pieces down the road as needed and this will handle everything I want. Great buy at a good price, when on sale.

Sounds great out of the box, but TONS of options to customize your system. Wouldn't recommend as much to someone looking for basic plug-n-play system. If you're willing to take a little time to go through the menus (on your tv), you will love it :))

First the pros. I really like the iPhone App Controller, Airplay Connectivity, and DLNA support. The HDMI pass through is great so you don't need the amp on to watch cable, and you easily boost your experience by merely turning on the amp. It passes my wife's ease of use test. So I really like the feature set for the price point, but I'm a little concerned about the build quality. About a week after setting it up with my older Samsung LEDTV, the TV's screen burned out. I'm not sure one caused the other, but the coincidence was significant. The amp also froze up once in the 2 months since purchase and needed to be power cycled.
