Mario Tennis Aces, A party that's all the racket!

One of the best coop Mario experiences I have had on the Nintendo Switch. Excellent for parties/get togethers and plenty of single player content in the Adventure Mode to keep you entertained. Free DLC content in the form of extra characters like Chain Chomp, Boom Boom, Pauline, Kamek, and Dry Bowser! Online Tournaments with a chance to unlock alternate costumes for fan favorite characters like Wario ans Waluigi. 10/10 Would Recommend!

Mario Tennis Aces is an absolute ace when it comes to combining the joy of Mario with the thrill of tennis on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has once again struck gold with this fantastic addition to their ever-growing library of Mario-themed sports games. From its vibrant visuals to its engaging gameplay mechanics, Mario Tennis Aces serves up an unforgettable experience for both casual players and competitive tennis enthusiasts alike.

Much more than just a tennis game. Yes you can just play tennis but there are also Quests & story line to challenge yourself. Play solo against the computer or with a friend.

Game is fun my only gripe and it’s a bit late now but I’m just now taking the game out of the package (a month later) and the game case is completely destroyed. Seems like it was stepped on. Game is fine, just the case is badly damaged

I bought this on Switch after really enjoying the Mario Tennis release on 3DS. The Wii U version was okay, but lacked a lot of content and features. This version offers a lot of additional characters that were unlocked over the course of a year, now all of which are available now. Basically a new character would release and which you could unlock by participating in in-game online matches. After one month this character would be free to everyone owning the game. It was cool to keep the online community going with this feature. Eventually (I think March 2019) it was announced there would be no more new characters and the game would in essence be finished. In all this game is great with a good online experience, story mode, challenge mode, and a slew of features and different clothes and gear.

A game that brings old school and new school together. All your favorite characters. Easy swing mode for the kids and button mode for those who choose a bit of a challenge. Everyone who ever played Nintendo should own this game.

    Good But Comes With Caveats

Mario Tennis Aces has a quirky storyline and a nice presentation, and its Tennis-related challenges that you must complete to progress (and unlock additional courts) steadily become more challenging. Beware though: some of those challenges tend to become very specific, and mastering the numerous button presses/combos can be a bit of a pain. The main draw for me personally though is the local multiplayer which supports up to four players simultaneously. But as of launch the game offers no ability to play an actual, traditionally-scored match of tennis. "Instead" (quoting from Nintendo Life)," it’s the best of three games wins the match. As there are no sets, it’s possible to win a match in eight points. Users have reportedly searched around, and so far have had no luck changing these settings." Hopefully Nintendo will release an update that adds this seemingly obvious option, but until then potential buyers should know what they're getting into before deciding.

Classic Mario Tennis with a Twist

This game plays like all of the other Mario Tennis games but it adds in a "Super Shot" that each character has once you fill up a meter. At first I was put off by this but you can play with it OFF and even if you leave it on it is not overpowered. Whenever a Special is used you can actually return it easily enough with enough practice. The only negative I see is the really short single player campaign. This game is definitely built more towards Online Multiplayer.

So first and foremost this is a game best played if you have friends or children that will play with you. The single player content is lacking and is completed within a couple hours of owning the game. The online multiplayer has tournaments which are fun but get boring if that’s all your doing all the time. I’m sure in the future they will drop more patches to add quality of life improvements to the game so I would recommend this game.

I was very excited to hear the next Mario Tennis was being developed by Camelot and would have a single player mode. Mario Tennis Aces is a wonderfully crafted game that has added a lot to the game to prevent the Mario Tennis series from becoming stale. The new meter building and the shots that come with it are a fantastic mechanic. Racket breaking however is something I’m on the fence on. It can be used to win and takes away from the overall experience imo. The story mode is really fun but feels like an extended tutorial for the most part. The challenge isn’t all skill based due to the fact there are distractions and obstacles on the courts and the AI knows how to use that to their advantage strongly in some cases. The boss fights are really well done and are challenging but enjoyable. The real longevity in the game comes in the form of the online tournaments. These serve as the way to get new characters as they release and is enjoyable to play against other human opponents. Overall I think Mario Tennis Aces is a fantastic entry with a well done story mode and the addition of tournament was the spark needed for the series.

This game starts out simple and can be played by anyone, but also teaches you advanced techniques for more experienced and competitive players. The 4 player mode is also wildly entertaining and this is a must have party game for switch owners!

I haven't owned a Mario Tennis game prior to this one, but after logging almost 30 hours into this game so far, I will surely be purchasing future Mario Tennis games! The controls feel great and the online tournament is where the fun is at. The single player mode, although short, is also a lot of fun.

This game is a wonderful addition to the Mario/Nintendo sports games they’ve done over the years. This game is definitely challenging though. Learning the shots and skills are vital to winning this game. It can be frustrating at times, but it is still fun! If you can get this when it’s on sale, it’s worth it. I don’t feel that the $60 they are asking is worth it.

After the extremely disappointing Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, I was hesitant to purchase Aces. I’m glade I did though. Those of you new to the Mario Tennis series may be wondering what makes it special. Of course, there’s the inclusion of characters from throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. Of course Mario, Bowser, Donkey Kong, and Peach make appearances, but the game excels in adding smaller characters to the mix as well. Baddies such as Chain Chomp, Spike, and Blooper are also featured in the game’s roster. Unlike in Mario Kart, where characters are split into weight classes and and all characters in the same class play the same, characters in Mario Tennis Aces are split into 6 playstyles, and each character has their own unique characteristics. New to the Mario Tennis series is the introduction of an energy system. By charging up your shots, you can build up your energy gauge, which in turn can be used to activate special skills. Zone speed slows down everything except your character, giving you time to get to a far-away ball. Zone shots allow you to send powerful, accurate shots lasering into your opponent’s court. Trick shots can be used to quickly move across the court to return a powerful shot. If you’re able to fully charge your energy meter, you can unleash a special shot, which if not blocked with perfect timing, will shatter your opponent’s racket. For the first time since Mario Tenni: Power Tour on the GBA, Aces contains a single player story mode with light RPG elements. The story itself is mediocre at best, but it serves as a great way to hone your skills before jumping into the surprisingly competitive tournament mode. Tournament mode is by far the highlight of Mario Tennis Aces. It pits you against randomly selected online players, and builds a tournament based on single-match elimination. Because the game doesn’t create the entire tournament at once, and instead matches two player in round two together, etc., wait time in between matches is always short.

I was lucky and got this game for a great price, $35. For $35 I rate it at a 4 out of 5 for good multi player and average single player. I would not purchase for anything over $40 and wait for it to come down in price. This is about 5 hours of fun on single player before beating it. The appeal is to more diehard Mario and Nintendo fans.

Friends and I had a great time playing together and getting good at the game, but it didn't hold my interest when I was playing by myself for very long. If you play mario kart, mario party, or other mario sports games with friends often, I would recommend this game, but as a standalone single player game, might want to look elsewhere.
