The Motion SLM XL delivers everything MartinLogan's Folded Motion tweeter promises: articulate, grain-free highs and remarkably clear dialog reproduction that puts most traditional on-wall speakers to shame. Voices lock in with real presence and intelligibility — a genuine strength for home theater use.
That said, the "XL" in the name shouldn't set expectations for low-end weight. Six 4" drivers in a slim on-wall enclosure simply cannot move enough air below ~80Hz, and the bass rolloff is noticeable on anything with real dynamic range. These are not a standalone solution — a capable subwoofer isn't optional, it's mandatory to realize what this speaker is capable of. Crossed over properly, the combination is excellent. Run full-range, you'll feel like something's missing.
Build quality and form factor are impressive for the price point. Gloss black finish is clean and the slim profile does what it promises aesthetically. Installation is straightforward.
Bottom line: buy these if you're committed to a proper sub integration. If you're hoping to run them without one, look elsewhere.

I already had the Martin Logan motion SLM’s now these XL’s blend perfectly together to complete my home theater sound. Every word spoken is crisp with dynamic action range.

These are a great match with the Onkyo AVR and Martin Logan woofer. I am very happy with my purchase. Best Buy had them ready when promised.
