Spider-Man: Arkham City
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellently produced AAA title by none other than Insomniac Games, the dev.team behind, most notably, the Ratchet & Clank franchise, and the even more classic, Spyro the Dragon franchise. The story is well written, and traversing this city using Peter's classic web-slinging has been done to perfection in this game. The combat has a steady progression of difficulty while still remaining entertaining. Parallels to the highly acclaimed Batman Arkham games by Rocksteady can't be ignored in this area. The game mechanics push you to not only get used to attacking a couple to a dozen enemies at once, but also seamlessly dodging attacks from all oncomers, and promoting steady, parkour-esque movement. OST is great. Voice acting is great. Buy the game.

Great game, but maybe not what you think it is
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spider-Man for PS4 gets a LOT right: swinging, combat, story, Spidey's personality, etc. But there are a few nitpicks. For example, the Sinister Six team-up teased is really only about maybe 5% of the game - the majority of the story focuses on Mr. Negative, a relatively new character to Spider-Man's rogues gallery. That's not necessarily bad by itself, but it does feel like there was a lot of wasted potential. The story itself is also fairly predictable, even though it's held together with some really great performances. There is a lot of busywork tasks like collecting backpacks, landmark tokens, research tokens, pigeons (yes, really) that, while not BAD, never feels particularly interesting, either. I also found myself surprised at just how much aerial combat there was, particularly late game, when the combat system frankly doesn't support it very well. The last few fights are more annoying than challenging, particularly the final boss, who feels cheap and unwieldy. There are also occasional stealth segments where you play as someone other than Spider-Man and must sneak past armed enemies. These are usually pretty short and decently-constructed, but every time one popped up I wanted to rush through so I could get back to being Spider-Man already. Overall I definitely enjoyed my time with it, the photo mode is great, it looks and feels fantastic, I love the optional suits and just how satisfying it is to see them in motion, but it's definitely not without some flaws.

Amazing Spidey
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is a total blast to play!! If you're a marvel fan or a spidey fan or heck a gaming fan you have to play this game!! The swing mechanic is just simply beautiful!! So fluid that you really feel like a super hero!! And traversing around NY city is fun, amazing and absolutely gorgeous!! If you have a PS4 Pro you'll be treated to an beautifully graphical game! The story is top notch in the main missions and allot of the side missions as well!! But my only minor issue with the game is some of the side missions and random crimes can get a little repetitive but other than that it's a must have in any body's gaming library!!!

Awesome Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really enjoyed this game - incredible story, controls and combat. The side missions got a little repetitive, but I didn't mind too much because the mechanics were so great.

Great for Spider-Man or action game fans
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been a comic book/superhero fan. Spider-Man is obviously one of the most popular superheroes, so this game had a lot of high expectations to live up to. I can say that this game met and exceeded my expectations. The story is engaging, with many familiar characters from the comics, movies, and cartoons. The combat is fast and fluid, and it reminds me of the Batman Arkham games. Web swinging through New York City feels exhilarating. In short, playing this game makes you feel like Spider-Man, which is what a great superhero game should do.

The best Spider-Man Game
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The action is very fluid and reinforcements always keep you on your toes. The stealth as Spider-Man is also amazing. The swinging even beats the swinging in Spider-Man 2 which was amazing. The animation is upon the best in any 2018 games and the story is new and original and makes you wanna play it all the time. The only problem is that the side missions can get a little repetitive and the Mary Jane and Miles Morales stealth missions are sometimes boring. Overall, it is easily the best Spider-Man and maybe even superhero game to date. I would definitely recommend buying it

Amazing (HA) game!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd read the reviews of this game online but never any "in-depth" reviews as I was pretty sure I wanted it and didn't want any 'surprises' to be spoiled. This is probably my favorite console game ever. I'm a huge comic nerd, and I've always liked Spider-Man, so this game is right up my alley. It's "open-world" --so if you've ever played an open-world game you know what to expect. It's a main story, lots of side missions, towers that have to be unlocked to reveal a map, etc. There is nothing super-unique about any of it....save for the fact of how well it's all done. The creators appear to have really built New York City from the ground up! The details of the map are just incredible--from Central Park to Radio City to The Empire State Building it's all there, and all where it should be....with a few Marvel touches of course (Avengers tower is a prominent feature of the skyline). The story is fun, without really following the comics canon to a fault. This game is set in it's own universe with some interesting touches--Norman Osbourne is the mayor, MJ is an old flame, etc, but the pieces of the Spider-verse are all there, with lots of great easter eggs for old-school fans. The controls are a little wonky from time-to-time (the chase missions frustrate me to no end) but for the most part they are pretty easy and feel natural. Once you get the fight mechanics down you want to go looking for fights because they're so much fun. The best and most fun of this game BY FAR is the web-swinging mechanics. Swinging around the city is an absolute blast, and really feels like Spider-Man. I probably could have completed the main quest by now, but I've had so much fun exploring (and random crimes come up all the time so there's lots of action breaks) that I haven't been in any hurry to get it done. The side missions are fun...for the most part. Some, obviously, are more fun than others, but a couple get a little repetitive. You'll want to complete them all just to unlock all the other cool stuff like... The spider-suits!!! I've only unlocked about half at this point, but they are awesome---suits you've seen on alternate universe spider-men, the suit made just for this game, even some surprise suits (and some I had never even heard of) are unlockable in this! The level of detail in the suits (like the rest of the game) is just stunning. Overall if you like Spider-man, action games, open-world games or just plain fun games (that are suitable for the family) then you can't go wrong with this. I'm actually glad there's downloadable content coming--I will get whatever they release so long as it leads to more playtime!

Very Fun Game with a Good Story and Voice Acting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're a fan of Spider-Man and superhero games in general you'll love this game. It's what you're used to in open-world superhero game: unlock towers to fill out your map, collect items and complete main and side missions all for XP to upgrade your character. That being said Insomniac does it very well. A close comparison is the Batman Arkham games in both exploration and combat (though Spider-Man combat is more creative). They really nailed web slingling and I often found myself just roaming around NYC. Overall this game is very fun and any Spidey fans will get a huge kick out of it.

For any Spiderman fan or not
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another classic PS4 gem. It has been an amazing adventure. The open world of Manhattan is breathtaking and pretty nailed down. The story follows well for a Spiderman game or even movie. The fighting mechanics are tight and fighting someone doesn't feel boring or a repeat. Side missions can feel someone repeating at times; however, the story is one you will definitely enjoy if you like Spider-Man, Marvel comics or superheroes to some degree. Definitely worth getting and at a good price.

Must have game!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, the game is seamless in its story telling and sand-box open play. Insomniac hit a home run with the making of this game. Web swinging is spot on as I've spent countless hours just zipping through Manhattan, never getting bored, and times playing as Peter Parker is on the money. I'm a Spider-Man fan and a very hard critic when it comes to video games made for this genre. This is one of the top 5 Spider-Man games ever made and would be money well invested. The only question you have to ask yourself about buying this game is ... WHAT AM I WAITING FOR?!

Love Letter to Spiderman 2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Anyone who played the old Spiderman 2 game on Xbox or Playstation remembers it fondly, and wonders why no one ever went back to try that again. Well, Spider-man is back, and he is spectacular. New York is beautiful, and the swinging is so much fun. Once you figure out the combat, it's a flurry of improvisation, speed, and is just so good. The story is funny, tragic, and heroic, like all Spider-man epics should be. And if you don't own a PS4, well, this game should convince you to get one. If you love games and/or comics, you have to play this.

Fantastic superhero adventure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I knew going in that the reviews for the game were great but then I played it. The city is beautiful and immersive and the gameplay is addicting. I love web swinging through the city, its possibly one of my favorite parts. The different kinds of tricks and small nuances really make the experience worthwhile. The battle system is reminiscent of the Batman Arkham video games but still massively enjoyable. The story is very fleshed out and full of life. The ending is a surprise and pulled on my heart strings. Such a fantastic experience.

Solid start to a hopefully long lived franchise
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spider-Man is going to be a game that's nominated for a ton of awards, but likely win very few. That's not so much a knock on the game itself as it is the stellar competition it's up against. It's an entertaining and unique experience in it's own right, but there's a decent of repetition that drags it down. The game itself reminds me a lot of Assassin's Creed 1 or Arkham Asylum. I fully expect the inevitable sequel to blow this game out of the water. Web slinging feels spectacular and is extremely fun. Kudos to Insomniac for giving you the option to fast travel around the city though I'd find myself slinging from point A to point B most of the time. JJJ podcasts helped provided some entertainment which added to the experience. You also can pick off a lot of side missions along the way. The story surprised me in how confident it was told. I loved seeing Peter as an experienced Spider-Man, a new version of MJ, and a fleshed out Miles Morales. As a fan of the comics this definitely felt like a fully realized alternate universe version of some beloved characters. Things were familiar, but new and I could easily see this as a graphic novel or its own series. I loved the take on all of the new characters. There's a decent amount of gameplay where you're MJ and Miles and thankfully those missions don't feel like a chore to get through. All the supporting villains and characters really added to the world especially in the context of an experienced hero. There are references to a bigger Marvel universe which are hopefully allusions to a much bigger sequel rather than just Easter eggs. Playing through the game is a pretty easy Platinum Trophy if you're into that sort of thing. I was able to get it after completing the final mission of the game though you can always go back and take on the side quests after the fact. TBH I don't know if i'll be getting the DLC for the game though they sound like they're solid additions to the game and not just pure money grabs. There's a much bigger sequel to be made both in terms of gameplay and story that I'm looking forward to. Who knows what platform it'll come out on, but this game is enough to make me so much more.

Best Spiderman Game to date
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Marvel Spiderman is hands down the most fun I've had playing a video game in recent memory. There is not a negative aspect I can say about the game without sounding like I'm nitpicking. The story is excellent and is easily in the same conversation of quality as Marvel's current movie universe. The gameplay is nearly perfect, with the swinging mechanics an absolute joy. So much in fact, that I had no problem 100% the game. In summary, Marvel Spiderman is a must buy and a wonderful addition to the playstation exclusive family.

Superhero games are back
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spider man for ps4 is a masterpiece for a superhero game. There hasn't been a good Spiderman/superhero game since Spiderman 2 on playstation 2. The game makes you feel like you are Spiderman, the story is awesome, the combat is sick and the best thing is web slinging in the open world of New York city. When I first turned it on, I was blown away on how good the game looks and feels. Hopefully this is just the beginning for more superhero games. Insomniac and plantation really hit it out of the park wit this one.

Living your dreams as Spider-Man
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far the best game I've played this year. The only contention that may come is when Red Dead Redemption 2 releases. Anyways, the swinging and traversal is perfect. It feels exhilarating to swing through New York, which is beautifully created. The combat is simplistic yet it provides options to perform various moves that look amazing. The story is superb. While the game took about 20 hours to complete, I was invested in it the entire time and I didn't feel like any part dragged on or wasn't necessary.

Probably the best super hero game I have played
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Spiderman game for PS4 is absolutely fantastic. The graphics and voice acting is amazing, the story is solid and fresh. Hands down however, the best part of the game is the web slinging. It is polished, easy (but not too easy), allows for creativity, and is just a joy to do. I could do that part alone for hours. This might be my favorite super hero game I have ever played. And that is saying something considering I was a big Batman Arkham series fan. Definitely a must buy for any Marvel fan.

Amazing! Ultimate! All the above.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.New York never looked so good or so real. One of the reasons I bought a PS4 Pro was for exclusive PS games like this. The controls are smooth, swinging is amazing and the story is excellent. Being able to also step into the shoes of Mary Jane and Miles Davis gives this game a unique overall feel. While I might agree with some reviews about the repetitive nature of some of the fights, I was never bored. Highly recommend and look forward to what else this studio will put out.

The best Spider-Man has to offer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It may not win GOTY but is an absolute contender. It may not have the quantity of busy work Assassin's Creed has, but it makes up for it in quality. This is a game made by people who love all incarnations of the source content. It's my favorite portrayal and series of story beats in any medium and I liked SM2 (game) and Homecoming quite a bit. It's funny, human, wild, fun, and tragic. The swinging is absolutely perfect and has very little I would change about it - maybe more style moves in mid air. The combat is really fantastic and varied. If you take time to master each set of enemies it's possible for it to become a little too easy at times. However, it always keeps you thinking and moving. Some emergent game play bits need work, but not all. The story really is incredible at mixing crazy characters with actual humans and creating something grounded but still very akin to a comic book. I recommend it for everyone at every age. It's worth it and I'm excited to see what Insomniac does in the DLC and the future.
