Become Spider-Man.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before Robert Downey, Jr. popularized Iron Man, the most well known of Marvel’s superheroes was Spider-Man. He stood apart from other heroes because, when he wasn’t fighting crime, he was a pretty ordinary kid with relatable problems. He’s flawed, and funny, and trying to have a normal life, despite having these awesome abilities. A Spider-Man game was released earlier this month, available only on PlayStation 4, and set when Peter Parker has been Spider-Man for eight years. His relationship with Mary Jane Watson is strained, and he’s struggling to pay the rent on his tiny Manhattan apartment while working as a research assistant - and, of course, taking out street thugs in his time off. Familiar villains, like Doctor Octopus and The Vulture appear, as well as a newer villain - Mr. Negative. You start off with a few signature abilities - being able to swing from building to building, sticking bad guys to walls, and a good ol’ one-two punch. The game gradually unlocks new abilities, letting you learn how to control Spider-Man without having to stick you in an hour-long tutorial before you get to start playing. This works out fantastically, especially since it’s rewarding just to swing through the surprisingly accurate recreation of Manhattan. When I first started playing, I just swung around for 30 minutes, admiring the city - and when I stopped, I hadn’t realized it, but I landed right next to the Guggenheim. There have been lots of Spider-Man video games, which have ranged from horrible to pretty good. I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the news that there was a new Spider-Man game in development, since I figured it would be a movie tie-in and just be an average beat-em-up game. And then, when the game was released, I saw a flood of people on social media raving about it, and I’ve never been so happy to be wrong.

Almost perfect.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Almost everything is perfect. I wish that the range to web things for swinging was a bit longer, and there are few instances were I feel like I'm telling the game to do something, and the conditions for what it requires are met (and does so 95% of the time when told in similar circumstances), and it disagrees with me about that and so it feels like it's ignoring button inputs, which can be super frustrating. I feel like there could be some adjustment on the button layout to make things smoother. Those issues weren't so common that they really detract from everything else the game does well. It looks great, it feels great. The story is easy to get invested in, and I want to follow it into sequels. I would note that one of the things many people complain about are sections where you're not playing as Parker/SM, with a largely stealth-focus. I enjoyed them. I enjoyed the game taking time to show other peoples perspectives, stepping back from SM's powers, giving them time to develop and shine. The sections aren't perfect, they could definitely be improved, and I hope a sequel maintains them while fleshing them out. I don't feel the game can escape comparison to the Arkham "Quadrilogy" (though not in a bad way, as of yet). Of that series, Asylum had a narrower focus on location and story that made a stronger package than its successors. The follow-ups, while still mostly solid, diluted the experience when they expanded scope and focus, and it came with a loss of quality and over-use of mechanics/concepts. Spider-Man already matches Arkham City in scope, though it does manage to have a story of much higher quality and emotional resonance. My hope is a sequel that can expand the gameplay mechanics, while continuing to maintain the story-telling quality that I feel diminished as the Arkham series progressed.

Best Spiderman game ever!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is hands down the best Spiderman game ever for the best console ever. The graphics are simply superb alongside the easy control schemes. Web swinging has never been easier and it makes you want to spend the time web swinging than traveling fast to a location. So many fun missions and familiar hero/villain appearances. The best part is all the gear and costumes your able to put on especially from MCU. This game makes the MCU come to life. Very good story too!

Addicting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the best superhero games I've ever played. The amount of detail in the game is amazing. The way you can swing through the city landscape in an open world format is so fluid and just a lot of fun to do. Seriously, I glide around the rooftops looking for random crime for a while before I hit missions again. The combat is insanely fun and often very challenging. But I found learning the controls to be very easy as they've set them up very nicely.

Awesome!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a life long spiderman fan and so happy to finally get a game that has done it justice. The side missions are a little repetitive and the story could be expanded in areas. I'd give it 4.5 if I could. The web swinging and combat is amazing, story and characters are really great.

Best superhero game of all time
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Game is amazing! If you like spiderman, if you like superheroes, if you like open world's, if you like a great story (in my opinion the best spiderman plot ever, all movies, games and tv shows included) then get the game. Web slinging and combat is fluid, story is great, only complaint is some of the side missions are boring but most of them are fun. Must buy if you have a ps4 or ps5

The best Spider-Man game ever!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Insomniac Games have outdone themselves with the latest iteration of a Spider-Man video game. The web swinging is fantastic, and allows you to feel as if you're really zipping around the streets and skyscrapers of New York. The combat is simple to understand. There's a lot of collectibles/missions. The story is a breath of fresh air, doing something different than what most people have seen in the movies and TV shows. Can't wait for more Spider-Man!

Best Superhero Game Ever
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is honestly the best superhero game ever made. It's an amazing open world that feels like you are part of the city and not just running around doing missions. There is so much detail in not only Spider-Man history but broader Marvel as well (but mostly Spider-Man of course). It has a very original take on the mythos that adds much more depth to all the characters. This is game made by Spidey lovers for Spidey lovers.

Best Game of 2018
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Many people are saying that this is the best Spider-Man video game ever made and I would most definitely agree. Not only is the story and graphics of this game unparalleled, but the game succeeds in creating the most immersive Spider-Man experience ever. From web swinging to fighting to wall crawling, this is the ultimate Spider-Man game. I can’t wait until they publish a sequel!!

Truly Spectacular
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was skeptical going into this one. Worried about the general issues open world games typically have. I ended up really enjoying it. Not too many side quests or collectibles that overwhelm the player. Side Quests are there, but they are high quality and there aren't TOO many of them like many games. The movement is great, best web swinging to date. Good writing with a story that keeps you hooked and ends nicely.

GOTY Contender
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In a year of releases that includes God of War and Detroit: Become Human, Spider-Man may very well be the best game Sony has to offer. While there's nothing groundbreaking about the Assassin's Creed-esque map towers or the Crackdown-like side missions, it has everything you could possibly want: the graphics are phenomenal, the controls are tight, the story is gripping, and, to put it succinctly, the game is FUN.

Man this game is good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Graphics are phenomenal, music is awesome, story is pretty good and voice acting is surprisingly great. No expense was spared in bringing a great superhero game to the PS4. Web swinging is super fun, easy to pick up but with plenty of nuance. The optional content is generally fun enough that you might find yourself taking long detours away from the main storyline just to enjoy some variety! Highly recommended

Best Spider-Man and game this gen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I waited over 10 years for a great Spider-Man game and got the best game this gen next to Arkham knight. I feel like Spider-Man just like I felt like Batman except Spider-Man combat is more dynamic and acrobatic. The story is very well done with fun side missions. The web swinging is exhilarating and perfectly executed.

Great PlayStation Exclusive
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic game. Story is well written and very interesting. Combat and movement both feel excellent. You really get a sense of being Spider-Man and swinging through New York. Combat is very unbalanced however. I do recommend playing on the easiest difficulty level for a good story telling experience. On medium difficulty the first boss encounter almost made me stop playing.

Amazing and entertaining.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Naughty Dog created this game, who are th guys who made the classic Ratchet and Ckank series. They did a wonderful job creating the open world in a Spider Man universe. The swinging is great, which is probably the most important element of the game since that is how you will be adventuring through a wonderful portrayal of NYC. The story is awesome and the battling is a lot like the Arkham series.

The best Spider-Man game yet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I pre-ordered this on a random compulsory purchase and I'm very glad I did. To me this is the definitive Spider-Man game. Web swinging has never felt better, or as casually calculated. Story was good, graphics were very impressive; some of the best I've seen on the PS4 Pro. Combat was fluid, fun and varied enough for me to never find it burdensome 10/10 would recommend to any gamer of any age.

Better than the films--a GOTY contender
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a casual Spider-Man fan this game still checked all of the boxes. A vast open world with best-in-class traversal? Check. One of the best stories of the year? Check. Fantastic sound and graphics design? Check and check. My only gripe would be repetitive side-content, but as long as you don't try to mainline those activities (space them out), you'll have a fantastic time with this game.

Underoos!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game has Marvel's success all over it. Love, love, love this game! Gameplay is similar to all the Batman games by Rocksteady which I love. Open world concept is amazing. The graphics has some minor issues on it but it doesn't really matter to me because the story, the dialogue & the humor all makes up for it. Great job insomniac! We need more games like this, simple but yet satisfying!

An amazing superhero game from start to finish
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is easily one of the best PS4 exclusives ever made. The graphics, story, voice acting, and gameplay are all top notch. It really makes you feel like Spider-Man as you web swing all around New York, taking in all the sights and taking out all the bad guys. Plenty to do, missions and collectibles are scattered all over and playing around in different suits are great!

I am Spider-Man
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been waiting for this game for some time, and I am not disappointed! My favorite super hero video games were Arkham Asylum and Spider-Man: Shattered dimensions and find this game has a better comic story and is the first open world feel to a Spider-Man video game I have been waiting for! Good graphics and I enjoy opening up a new costume and ability for doing what a spider can!
