tl;dr: Worth it, but only from Best Buy.
First thing: I don't use this with the intended View-Master software, but rather as a Google Cardboard VR device.
And as a Cardboard device, it works exactly like it's supposed to. Split the screen into two parts, one for each eye, get the intended 3D effect. Plus the button on the top right that causes a tap on the middle of the screen where you can't see for various different things, like video re-centering.
There are a couple of issues that likely aren't dealbreakers, but they should be noted.
First, there's no access to your phone for things like charging or cooling (i.e. ice pack to the back of the phone). Depending on your phone's thermal output or battery use, this could be a very bad thing.
Second, there's no way to strap it to your head; you have to hold it at all times. Usually, there's no problem here. But if you want to use this and a Bluetooth game controller, then you've got a problem.
All in all, it's worth it at the $20 price point that Best Buy sells it for. Don't get it elsewhere; it's more expensive, and at those prices you'll be better off getting a different Google Cardboard viewer, with charging access and a head strap.

Fun for the kids

Overall, a fun experience for the kids. Not big enough for an adult who wears glasses, but fine for a child with glasses. The software is OK, but you're also open to any of the google vr compatible apps as well. For some of the VR experiences, you need a lot of room to walk around. On the goggles, it would be nice if there was a head strap to hold them up.

Amazing tech, but needs more content

This is not the view master from your childhood. Instead you slide in your cell phone and are fully immersed in 360 degree video. The tech is amazing and really makes it seem like you are in the video as the video moves when you turn your head.
What takes this tech down a notch is the amount of good, quality content. You can use any of the Google cardboard apps or YouTube. The vr apps are mostly videos and not that interactive. There's some good content on YouTube, but if you have an iPhone, the YouTube app does not have Google cardboard view on ios.
Construction is solid and the phone fits snugly into the unit. Everyone was amazed at some of the demos. Just wish there was more content.

My son enjoyed watching this but he also wished that it is like the oculus or other VR tools that will have a strap that he could put around his head and be handsfee. Otherwise, it was good for its price and our son appreciated it. We like the samples it came with especially the one pertaining to space. Our young son found it cool.

I had been interested in trying a Google Cardboard viewer, but was hesitant due to most products being made of actual cardboard. I appreciate the sturdy feel of this plastic design. I have no complaints about the clarity of the display, but for anyone wondering, the focus is not adjustable on this model. I spent very little time with the included demo "reel," but I've been able to open any app designed for Google Cardboard.
As a fun bonus, the design is a throwback to the Viewmaster slideshow toy I had growing up. Bottom line, if you're intrigued by the VR phenomenon, this is a great way to try it without making a major investment.

Best Cardboard viewer out there and worth the money. I was also pleasantly surprised that I was able to fit a Samsung Galaxy Note 4.Only downside is that it does not have a head band and you have to hold it up all the time. However, since it is light, this will not cause much problems.

It is a great gift. However didn't realize how important a smart phone was in use of product. Wasted battery on Christmas day, as we did not buy any extra discs. Phone got very hot 30 minutes of in the View Master. Still good gift if you are aware.

Great for the price, for kids, for the novice! The price is right, the feel is right, and I'm sure it will fit all phones. It won't do anything too special, but will work on most VR videos, on Youtube.

This thing is awesome! I got this for my nephew for Christmas and he loves it. I do have a warning though. Don't put a phone in that has a case on it. The latch on the front is a tight fit when you don't have a case on so when you have a case on its nearly impossible to open.

Fantastic for Google cardboard, comfortable and easy to set up. The only small catch is the lack of a strap, makes titles that can utilize a controller hard to enjoy properly.

This works really well. It uses the Google cardboard standard so there are lots of Mattel and Google content that can be used with this. It works with many different cell phones, but I would make sure your phone doesn't get too hot. It's good for kids and adults. You have to insert your phone into the case so it helps if you have a case that comes off easily or small enough to fit in the case.

I scanned the the bar graph, then I was able to get some game apps from the google play store and found it to work very well. The roller coaster apps were almost like I was on the actual rides. My 8 and 9 year old nephews loved it also. I was a little concerned because I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S-3 phone, But it worked great. The price was also very reasonable for the fun it gives me.

Bought this as a gift for my son-in-law. He absolutely loved it! I didn't really need to buy any "reels" but I did. It is used with a smart phone and he downloaded amazing apps. Everyone loved having a turn. We "went" to downtown Indianapolis, as well as Japan and even some creepy places. It makes you feel like you're there. Reasonably priced too.

This is well built entry level VR which supports Google VR apps. It has its own AR portion also which is OK.
If you are looking for a better VR than Google cardboard and other cardboard headset. This is best bet.
Fit phone with size upto Nexus 6P ( 6P is exact fit ). No Headstrap , so you need to hold it while watching.

View Master (the company whose 3D disc slides we all remember from our childhood) has stepped their game up a few notches and joined the ranks of Samsung and Google with their very own virtual reality viewer. Compatible with every Google Cardboard app and usable with most newer Smart Phones, kids today (and adults) can now do things with a View Master that we only dreamed of thirty years ago. This device takes you to new worlds. An excellent bargain for the price. The only thing missing is a hole for plugging in headphones. But hopefully that will be included in a future model. For now, the speaker slots on the side work just fine. Don't hesitate. Buy one of these bad boys today. They really are a lot of fun and can even be educational depending on what apps you download or purchase at the store.

I bought the Viewmaster one of the many times it went on sale. I use it primarily for viewing Google Cardboard media on a Nexus 5X. I have not used the Experience Pack App software.
1. Durability is way better than actual cardboard. It's taken a few tumbles and the worst that happened is the front plastic popped off and was easily put back in place.
2. ease of use
a. you have to take the phone out of any case to put it into the Viewmaster. This isn's so bad, but be careful while transferring the phone into and out of the viewer.
b. I wish the black rubber light/eye guard cups was wider. I wear glasses and not anything outrageously large, but I never thought to take them off to use the viewer. Well, your glasses will get stuck. I am near sighted and I could use the viewer without my glasses. I am unsure how someone who is far sighted might fare.

The Viewmaster VR is a modern day kick to the classic 3D reel viewmaster. It is really cheap for a nice Virtual Reality kit. You can use it with the experience packs and the Google Cardboard. One problem is that sometimes the lever doesn't work very well so you have to click it again.
