I would like to note that I have only made it to chapter 3 in single player; with that said, this will not be a full review. However, I would like to share my initial thoughts thus far. That being- I am having an absolute blast. The gameplay so far is tight, brutal, and well refined. They make great use of the bullet time and I by no means feel over powered (playing on hard with free aim). Well, no more over powered then you would expect from a John Woo style shooter. If I get shot twice, which happens a lot, I am going down. Max Payne 3 is a breath of fresh air so far in a market of mostly standard FPS fare. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy FPS's, but this is a very welcome change up. Story wise everyone should know the deal by now. But, the way it is presented is what I love. I feel like I am playing Man on Fire. I must admit that the overlapping editing can get annoying at first. By act two I didn't even notice it. Actually, I thought it lent itself to Max's addictions and it gives MP3 a unique visual flare not found in other games. I can see it being a turn off to some, but I enjoy it. Rockstar created my favorite game of all time which is Red Dead Redemption and GTAIV not trailing far behind. While I don't see this being my favorite Rockstar game, I absolutely see it being another great addition to my Rockstar collection and worthy of the critical praise it has been receiving. But, you be the judge and try it yourself. Rockstar seems to have made a name for itself for building products that are technologically sharp, well told, and polished- MP3 so far does not negate those foundations.

Third Person Shooter Classic

A true shooter classic. For many who enjoyed this game on previous platforms, you will NOT be disappointed by this third installment. Everything about this game rocks. The graphics are insane, that it self will keep you in the game for much longer then you anticipated. Smooth game play, easily change from one gun to another, and let's not forget bullet time ( it just looks so Good ). Bottom Line is, there is a lot of shooters out there that claims to be the best, Max Payne doesn't claim, it delivers. You will not be disappointed.

I can't describe how much i have enjoyed this game, The amazing storyline, voice acting and graphic treatment are complimented by extremely fun game play making this a game you will gladly sit and play from start to finish. I have not tried the online portion yet but I will be jumping online as soon as I finish story mode. I hope the next GTA has a whole lot of Max Payne touches as it raised the bar for action dramas.

Great sequal to a great franchise

This is an excellent continuation of what was one of the best franchises out. It takes a new approach on the past 2 games by taking Max to a new location with a lot of new levels and landscapes. The graphics are leaps and bounds above the previous entries, and the story takes on a new twist on the old games, while starting a new story, so even if you haven't played them, you can still jump right in.It controls almost flawlessly, with aiming, moving, and using bullet time ( which if you are unfamiliar, is where you go into slow motion for a few seconds, giving you time to take out a lot of enemies at one time). But be aware, there is a horrible glitch, when you duck into cover, 3 out of 10 times you get stuck. You can't shoot or move, which is extremely annoying! If this happens, roll backwards away from the wall, that's the only way to get unstuck that I could find.

Simply the BEST shooter on the PS3... Period.

If you liked the multiplayer action in Red Dead Redemption, you will be blown away in Max Payne 3. Similar controls but with the addition of bulltet-time which slows down anyone in front of you. Make it count if you do it.. you'll jump into the air and the player in front of you will be slowed to a crawl as you jump. Kill them before you land... or you'll be a sitting duck laying on the ground once the slow-no stops!
The graphics are even better then RDR, the game in simply intense. The single player campaign is unbelievable. Easily the best of the Max Payne series.
Buy this game if you love 3rd person shooters, you WILL NOT be disappointed.
Enough said.

Entertaining but not without its problems

While the location and color palette has changed from the previous Max Payne games, the gameplay remains as fast paced and fun as ever. There is now a cover system, which fits in better than expected to the existing gameplay. The graphics are also quite impressive, with detailed environments and excellent lighting. However, the visuals are marred by unsightly post processing effects that warp the colors and blur the screen. These effects are meant to represent Max Payne's substance abuse, but it is vastly overused and becomes almost unbearable at times. It's a shame there is no way to disable these effects.

(Before I get started let me say that I really enjoy the Metal Gear Solid series, the Uncharted series and Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2. I have probably played those games more than any others.) Max Payne is about an x-cop who takes a body guard job for some rich folks in San Pablo Brazil. The story was very good and made me want to keep playing the game. I will not go into the story in detail. The game itself is tuff. I played it through on easy and I may have made it through 2 scenes without Max getting killed. Most of the time he got killed multiple times in a scène. This was annoying to me to say the least. This game is not like Uncharted, where you have times when you need to figure out a puzzle. It’s cut scenes and shooting. Unlike Uncharted you don’t hide and wait to for your strength to return, you survive on pain killers you find and if you keep getting killed the game will slowly start to give you some. There are fourteen chapters to play through. Every now and then you have to perform so great acrobatic move while shooting multiple people in order to move on. That was cool. There are clues that you can find in each chapter. They really don’t help you do anything it just makes the game more interesting. Would I buy the game again knowing what I know now? Yes. Would I pay $60 for it? Probably not. If you are into cut scenes and outrageous gun fights without any real puzzle solving and starting a scene over and over a bunch of times this is for you. To me it was somewhat frustrating at times.

This game is definitely worth buying, the story is amazing but the online is the best. You can join crews and challenge other crews in game while your fighting them, this deserves game of the year. Buy it, you wont be disappointed just check the trailer but for the love if god, play the online. The multiplayer is way too fun

I have not played multiplayer yet. The campaign is a blast. I personally love the cut scenes as they progress the story and give you a breather for a moment. Bullet time is fantastic and gives me the edge I need when facing a room full of foes. I love the new cover mechanic. Shoot dodge works perfectly. I wish Max could pick up and throw explosives back. OVERALL a FANTASTIC game.
My only complaint is save points. It sucks to be just a few steps away from a save point only to be killed and have to start from the begining of the level again. DEVELOPERS, please include the save anywhere feature in your games please.
Also, Rockstar actualy included a manual in their game. AWESOME and thank you.

This game was really like watching a movie. No load times but only small interruptions in games to tell the story! This is one game that I wanted to go on forever! Only thing missing is grenades in single campaign that would have been really useful at times.
