I like the washer and I replaced a Tromm Front Loader with it. I think over all it does an excellent job, has everything, even a mind of its own for balancing and spinning... but it is a little bit noisy

Very happy with my purchase

I was a little apprehensive about upgrading to a new machine. I have been told that appliances are only built to last about 10 years now. My old Maytag was from 1975 and still worked without ever having a repair. After doing some research I discovered it was costing me up to almost $200/year to operate, so I decided I really needed to take the plunge and get a new machine.
I was also a little nervous because I read some very negative online reviews, but found out that there were issues when the HE top loaders first came out, but those have been fixed. I decided to take those negative reviews with a grain of salt, because I'm sure that people who have a negative experience quicker to write a negative review than people who have a positive experience are to write a positive one. Also, some people clearly did not load the washer properly or use the correct settings.
At any rate, I have owned the machine now for almost a month and could not be happier with my purchase. This is a great washing machine. I do not find it to be very loud at all, as other reviewers have commented. It does make some strange noises but even at it's loudest you could have a normal volume conversation standing right next to it. I guess because it is a washing machine I expect it to make some noise. I actually find the strange noises kind of funny--when it is getting ready to spin it sounds like a spaceship powering up, and when it is agitating it does this "er, er, er," noise that reminds me of a dog playing tug-of-war. :)
I'm also very happy with the HE top loading design. While researching I learned that front loaders tend to have more problems than top loaders. Evidently, because the drum is on it's side with the front loaders, they cannot handle the weight of the wet laundry as well as the top loaders. HE top loaders also wash in half the time of front loaders. This washer on the normal setting takes about 50 minutes--some top loaders take up to 2 hours! This is longer than conventional top loaders, but the drying time is significantly less, so that makes up for it.
This washer does a very good job of cleaning! It was able to handle my oversized queen comforter perfectly, and I have washed one complete set of twin sheets, comforter, and the mattress protector in one load without any issue. I even washed pillows in it and they came out great! Everything smells very fresh when it comes out, and I have no issues with tangling or wrinkling as I had read in other reviews.
I got this on sale for $467.49 so the value was great also, and I would definitely recommend this washer to anyone. I also got the matching dryer and I am equally satisfied with that.

GREAT UNIT FOR PRICE

I bought unit to replace a 5 year old whirlpool top load (needs replacement of transmission) . I was surprised at the quietness of unit. The amount of water it uses will take some getting used to. I would not put it on 2nd or 3rd floor because of minor vibrations.
Over all a good unit.
I would recommend that it had a digital countdown timer..

I bought this in lieu of a front loader, because I have a laundry "closet" and am not able to fit a front loader in at this time (washer is partially behind a wall). Wanted the additional water/energy savings over traditional top loader - and given that this one was reasonably priced, I think it's worth it.
The features all seem fine, everything works like it should. It's nice not to worry about putting in a small load but forgetting to lower the water level, this auto senses everything. It makes odd noises, but you are warned of that in the manual and I hear that's standard with the HE's. It does a great job of spinning (I am not having much movement of the machine at all, but we spent a ton of time leveling) and the savings in drying time makes up for additional wash time, I think (though I don't think this takes nearly as long as most front loaders take to wash).
My only complaint is that it seems like it's rough on my clothes. Maybe it's that great spinning action, I don't know, but things do come out of the wash pretty tightly wound. I've noticed some seam unraveling and my towels are suddenly fraying where they weren't before I got this. Only had it a few weeks, so maybe I'll learn to tweak settings better and avoid this, but at this point it is an issue for me. Still feel like it was worth it, and it's possible my old machine was such junk that any machine would seem like it was beating my clothes up - not sure!

This washer is quiet and does a great job of cleaning clothes. Of course make sure to use high efficiency detergent and it works well every time. Wash times seam about the same as my old washer and does about the same as a good non efficient washer but this will save you in the long run as it uses way less water and electricity. Everything is of course built well as I've come to expect from maytag.

I really enjoy the ease of use and the settings. The one thing that seems odd to me is that when I wash a sheet or larger item, it seems that all of the other contents end up underneath the sheet and all you see in the washer at the end is a muffin looking bundle all tightly tucked in under the sheet. This probably happens because there is no middle rotator post. I like that it auto senses how much water to use.

I only just received my maytag bravo washer and dryer, so i'm only about 3 loads in. So far everything has came out great. For the people complaining about vibrations -- READ YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL AND LEVEL YOUR WASHER!! Mine rocked a little when it was delivered, but after we leveled its super quiet. I love the fact that their is no agitator, that increases your load size by at least 30 percent. The low water doesn't bother me, as long as its cleaning my clothes. It actually makes sense that less water would clean your clothes better -- your detergent doesn't dilute in a huge tub of water, instead it concentrates in on your stains. There's not a huge amount of bells and whistles on this machine -- but I personally don't need a washer that looks like it could take off into space, just one that cleans to a satisfactory level. If you're wanting a great low frills HE washer, this is the one for you! I will check back in a few months and speak about its long term quality. FYI -- the noises are a little strange at first, especially when its thinking (sensing), but once you get used to it its much more quiet than a standard top loader.

I was not sure about buying a high efficiency top loader but I absolutely love it. I have done about 20 loads now and everything comes out clean. It even took out some old stains. YOU MUST READ YOUR OPERATING BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!! It tells you what each cycle does and there are actually cycles that add additional water. I have loads of bulky soft pj pants that weigh nothing - and the BULKY cycle takes care of them by adding additional water. Normal just would not work but I would never have known had I not read the booklet. And to all the naysayers - yes your clothes can actually get clean without all the water - detergents are advanced and they really do work. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS - I got the 500 - enough cycles for me and not too large.

we recently purchased the set of the bravos washer & drier, the efficiency as far as the lower amounts of water used is great from the washer, the drier dry's fast & has many different settings.
The negative is that it is not very fast in completing the loads.. is is very slow actually & we have to get used to the various noises and sounds the high efficiecy washers make, and the rapid shaking ect.. in fast spin cycles, other than that it seems to wash the clothes well and is very energy efficient.

i have had this washing machine for a little over a month now. i think it is a great washing machine. i save on water use and don't have to run the dryer as long. i also started using less soap. i don't like the fact that the soap is more expensive; therefore, i use less of it. clothes still come out clean.
i had one issue right away. a load i was washing was still soaking wet after the cycle. it was an easy fix. i ran the spin cycle one time, and that took care of the issue. other than this, i have enjoyed this washing machine.

When my washer broke, I only knew one thing that I wanted in a new unit. I didn't want the washing arm to be in the center of the basket so that I could wash blankets and pillows without washing them one at a time and then praying that it wouldn't be out of balance.
What I got was the Maytag Bravos. It does an excellent job, from putting the amount of soap and softner to shutting the lid and letting it decide the water level and everything else. As my 86 year old Mother in law says, it is a beautiful thing, put clothes in, shut the lid and hit start. So excited with the new washer.

I really like the watter effiency aspect of this washer. I also like the automatic settings on the top board. It is easy to use and easy to make adjustments. It is a bit noisy because of all the new features. I doesn't make noises like the old washers. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because when I add oxyclean to the top of the laundry it doesn't always get mixed in thoroughly. Am going to try layering as I put in the load. Overall it is an excellent washer and I will buy the matching dryer next.

I was a little reluctant at first because of some other reviews, but it was what we could afford with the features that we wanted. Never in my history of having a washer, has my whites come out soooo clean as they do with this washer. My clothes come out fresh & clean every time. I have no problem washing comforters, sheets or any of the like as in other complaints. I also made sure to use an "open mind" when we first got it, as far as actually reading the directions...IF YOU FOLLOW Manufacturer's directions, you should have no problems. The sounds DO NOT bother me, as with other reviews, other then the sounds its suppose to make, it is relatively quiet. Also, we are saving a ton of money on HE laundry soap, since we have to use to little.

I have done about 8 loads of laundry so far and so far so good. I read all the reviews and was a little nervous about moving to a HE but I wanted the extra spinning and more room it gave. Of all the reviews I read my overall impression was that the people who didn't like it had not followed the directions or used the correct soap. I have done a little bit of everything so far and I did experience the "muffin" as one other reviewer called it where the towel stretched over the top of the rest of the load. It did look funny but I checked everything as I pulled it out and it all seemed clean so no worries. I think it depends a little on how you load it because my sheets did not do that but my towels did. Everything so far has come out nice and clean and I love the extra spinning because with my regular Maytag Centennial dryer bought about a year ago my drying time has cut in half! I will agree that the wash time may be a bit longer but that seems mostly because of all the sensing it does and with the faster dry time I think my overall load time for wash and dry has been shortened. The noises it makes are completely different than my old washer but oh well. My only concern now is I hope it lasts!!

I rent a house, and the washer that came with quit on me. I told the landlords I would just buy one and if I ever move will just keep it! We looked at reviews online and there are so many different opinions. I love this washer and we picked it out at the store. It determines the amount of water it wants to use which is nice because then your mother that visits can't say you need to use the extra large load size for more water or whatever. It works great and holds alot!

replaced a 25 yr old maytag conventional. clothes are very clean and fresh. this machine makes some "unusual" noises due to direct drive but overall is quieter. even with fast spin all the loads remain balanced even with towels and comforters. best buy price matched a sale at another retailer. overall very pleased !

I have had this machine since April 2011, and have used it for all functions allowed on the machine. The only complaint I have is when I wash my daughter's blankets (they are about the size of a throw for the couch) the machine does not seem to drain all of the water off the blanket. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong, but I just put it on the spin only cycle and it seems to be good after that. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. It even sings a little diddy at the end of the wash cycle.

Good Washer for the Price

It is not as amazing as higher priced washers with steam and such, but it is great for a small family such as myself. It cleans my husband and I's clothes efficiently as well as our baby's. It took a little while to figure out all the buttons and cycles, but it works well and saves both water and electricity.
We Love It as much as one can love their washing machine

Do not assume it operates like the old style top load...read the manual, if you want sucess. It's reasonably quiet and fast. Seems to have adaquate functions for regular clothes. Does not stress or add as much wear to clothes as my old style top loader and it gets my medium dirty clothes clean. (I don't do anything that would get me in the heavily or nasty soiled catergory). Have had a month and I'm glad I got it. Thumbs up for the new generation of toploaders.

Great Large Capacity Washer

This is my first washer purchased November 2011. Therefore, I have nothing else to compare it to. I did research for a couple of months before purchasing.
The lack of an agitator is no big deal. Just follow the directions and load the clothes loosely around the basket. And yes, the noises from the machine sound different...but just different. I find that the low level water does clean my clothes each time. I have used the additional rinse cycle for very dark clothes to make sure no detergent residue is left behind.
As for size, this washer can hand 12 pair kids' jeans size 7 or 7 pair of adult jeans. It can wash a king size comforter with no problem and even small loads. I appreciate the fact the washer detects the load size. I will say the washer takes a little longer to wash (45-60 minutes) but I am busy doing other things so it really doesn't matter.
Overall, I do like this washer.
