Customers are delighted by the excellent gameplay, overall performance, and well-executed controls of Metroid Dread. Many appreciate the engaging story, exploration, and action-packed nature of the game, while some find the difficulty to be a positive aspect. Criticisms include concerns about certain boss encounters, the price point, and the limited presence of music. Some players also felt the game was a little too linear and that the EMMI zones became repetitive.

- Quick Summary: This game is absolutely phenomenal and is one of my favorite games of all time. If you love Metroidvanias or are new to the genre, drop what you are doing and play this game.
- Exploration: 10/10: If you have ever played a Metroidvania, the exploration will feel right at home, and even though the world is massive, I don't think it will be too intimidating for newcomers.
- Progression: 10/10: The way this Metroid game progresses is stellar as usual, and it finds a nice balance between backtracking and moving to new areas. You may get lost sometimes, however it's usual not for very long.
- Atmosphere: 11:10: This game might just have the greatest atmosphere I have ever experienced in any game. The planet ZDR ranges from desolate laboratories to lush forests, and every environment is both engaging and lively, with incredibly detailed backgrounds that feel artistic yet alive. I can tell that a lot of effort went into the backgrounds, because they really sell the atmosphere of this game and add extra little details, which is always appreciated. I also love how the feeling of isolation and dread is felt exquisitely throughout the whole game.
- Horror: 9/10: I would not consider Metroid: Dread to be a proper horror game, however it does have a lot of horror aspects. This is most prevalent in the E.M.M.I. stealth sections, in which an indestructible GLaDOS Demogorgon will chase Samus in designated areas of the map. When entering these rooms, the player will notice an immediate change in the environment. The music turns eerie, and even the visuals have become slightly dark and distorted. I love how these sections can be pretty tense and terrifying due to the fact that the E.M.M.I.'s are attracted to motion, and how these are threats that not even Samus has the means to take down. My only complaint about the horror aspects of this game is that I feel as if the E.M.M.I. sections could have had better placement throughout the campaign as a whole.
- Combat: 10/10: I can safely say that Metroid: Dread has the best combat out of any Metroid game so far. It's fluid, fast-paced, and requires timing, aim, and skill. This game also has some of my favorite boss battles ever, and some aspects of combat even remind me of DOOM: Eternal, which is a very high compliment.
- Music: 9/10: As usual, this Metroid game has an absolutely stellar soundtrack, full of songs that are both enjoyable to listen to yet also enhance the atmosphere.
- Story: 9/10: I'm not going to talk about any spoilers, however I think the story is handled really well in this game. It would have been awesome to have lore entries like in the Prime games, however I was not expecting this since nothing like that has ever been done in a 2d Metroid game before. I also think that Samus as a character is handled spectacularly.
- Visuals: 11/10: Metroid: Dread is another example of a graphical underpowered game that somehow looks gorgeous due to the incredible art-style and jaw-dropping lighting. This seriously has some of the best lighting I've ever seen in a 2d game and is certainly a contender for one of the best looking games I've ever played.
- Final Score: 79/80

At first I didn’t think I’d like this game due to the change in graphics from Metroid fusion (my favorite game) but I actually really enjoyed it. Most of the new abilities were excellent additions. The different modes allow for fun replay ability. Overall this is a great game and I highly recommend trying it.

Context: I'm a big fan of the Metroid series and have beaten almost all of the games. Nintendo and MercurySteam have accomplished something really special with Metroid Dread.
The game looks and sounds phenomenal, especially for a Switch game. Music and atmospheric sounds are as top-notch as they've ever been in this series. For the first time in the series, I felt like I was really on a planet as opposed to a bunch of interconnected caves. The game performs silky-smooth and load times between rooms barely exist. Samus herself controls incredibly well. Her movements and animations just feel terrific in action. If you're looking for 2D action on the Switch, you can hardly do better.
The story, too, really knocked my socks off. It's sold as a conclusion to the Metroid storyline and in my opinion, it delivered. Samus is cooler than she's ever been and it's great to see her get some closure for events in her past.
Note that this a pretty difficult game compared to Nintendo's usual fare. Bosses will kill you several times before you get a read on their patterns, so you'll need patience and dedication to make it through. I would not recommend this game to younger children or anyone who's easily stressed out by demanding combat. But as someone who enjoys a challenge, I adored Metroid Dread and I can't wait to play it a second time.

Graphics, gameplay, storyline, and soundtrack is incredible! It still maintains the feeling of exploration and figuring out puzzles without showing too many tutorials. The cutscenes subtly show how to fight bosses and enemies instead of showing a whole tutorial or cutting to a practice arena. The only con is unskipable cutscenes when you die and return to the same area you died.

Metroid 5, takes place after super metroid and metroid fusion....classic metroid style game with new world to explore....new weapons and techniques. Goodluck with the run speed block puzzles. For 100% completion they are tough but doable dont give up. Only thing in dread was the soundtrack was pretty bland compared to past games. More of a mood ambience music than true orchestrated songs like past metroid games. Either way game felt like any other previous sidescrolling metroid which is all i wanted. Loved it!

This game is a lot of fun. The graphics are beautiful and the sense of scale is really impressive. There have been several areas where I’ve just stopped to take in the scenery. The controls are tight and very responsive. I would recommend playing with the pro controller though. I also like that they don’t hand hold you. The game really reminds me of the old SNES and Genesis games. Hard but fair. You will die many times. But you will learn the patterns and get through it. Honestly, if you’re either new to the series or old enough like me to have played the original Metroid when it was first on NES you’re going like it.

I played fusion and the continued story is actually pretty good so far. It doesn’t explain much and running from those nonKillable unless you find the power is a bit of a pain but overall great game

SPOILER FREE REVIEW
I went into the game blind, I saw the one teaser trailer and that was it. So I didn't exactly know what to expect.
The game is solid with only arguable nitpicks I can throw at it.
The problems/nitpicks:
-You cannot use the dpad for movement. Something I wish I had the option for. The reasoning is likely they want you aiming precisely with your arm cannon but I find running around in a 2D platformer with an analog stick to be clunky and annoying.
-The game's framerate can be oddly inconsistent, some have suggested this is a memory leak and COULD be patched. It's by no means a deal breaker, but it's really obvious when it happens.
-Almost zero options, you can't remap any buttons, there's no alternate control schemes, you can't change the difficulty . The usual Nintendo thing they do for some reason.
Onto the good:
Visually the game is a treat, they capture a lot of detail in all the environments you explore, effects look really good and they have awesome art design that really shines through when you get a bit further.
Audio wise I think it sounds really good, the weapons hit hard, the ambient noises are solid and the music is more atmospheric this time but it's fitting considering this game is leaning harder into the more tense horror.
Story, without spoiling anything I will say this: They treat Metroid as a series and Samus with a lot of respect and do the series and Samus as a character justice.
The game is highly replayable, not only is there a lot to explore, there's a lot of power ups and going faster & grabbing 100% of items is always a big draw to the series. Also this game has a bunch of sequence breaks and ways to deal with bosses because of that, that makes this game way, way more interesting on repeat playthroughs. I beat it and on my first playthrough it took about 7 hours.
The game isn't a cake walk though and can challenge you for sure. I 100% recommend this game, it's a fantastic entry to the series and sequel to Fusion- a game I never thought I'd see them make a sequel for

If you're completely new to Metroid games, the general idea is that you have big world to explore at your own pace as you gain new abilities and powerups. Metroid Dread is one of the finest in the "Metroidvania" genre I've played - great fluid controls, fun exploration, challenging boss fights. The game's difficulty rewards players who approach the combat as a puzzle, as each enemy & boss has patterns you can learn to counter, which is super rewarding to accomplish. Compared to many video games nowadays it is more challenging/difficult, but far more satisfying to beat. Can't recommend highly enough

I love the Metroid Series, but since it had been so long since the last 2d entry in the series, I was a little skeptical if it would hold up compared to the others. Anyway, it totally does, and I could easily imagine this being someones favorite game in the franchise. I mean, its not my favorite... but its an exceptionally polished and fun experience, and a must play for fans of the series.

Solid entry into the franchise; level design, controls, and gameplay are overall excellent. It's very directly inspired by and a continuation of Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, with no references to the Prime series. Much of the zone music is either a remake or inspired by the music from Super Metroid, which was admittedly a classic soundtrack, though a little more originality would have been nice.
The only real negative is that the EMMI units that make up the 'Dread' part of the game are difficult not in a rewarding, challenging way, but in a cheap way where dealing with them is kind of a chore you have to slog through to get back to the actual fun.
