Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the excellent gameplay, overall performance, and well-executed controls of Metroid Dread. Many appreciate the engaging story, exploration, and action-packed nature of the game, while some find the difficulty to be a positive aspect. Criticisms include concerns about certain boss encounters, the price point, and the limited presence of music. Some players also felt the game was a little too linear and that the EMMI zones became repetitive.

Played many a Metroid title, but never hooked until around the time of the Metroid Prime series debut. This game is beautiful, but if you have anxiety issues..... you've love interacting with the EMMI. Sidescroller games are also great from a mobile gaming standpoint. If you're a gamer, who's not all about the sports titles, this game deserves a spot in your collection.

Excellent game. Whether you're a series fan from the beginning like I am, or new to the franchise, there's a lot to love about this title. The graphics are beautiful, the controllers intuitive and responsive. Fun, tough at some parts, but not too frustrating, Metroid Dread sets a high bar as to what a modern side-scrolling game should be.

I’ve played most of the Metroid Prime series and the GBA games and Super Metroid. And I have to say this is the best Metroid game yet. Challenging yet balanced. Intense and addictive. The graphics are impressive for the switch. Highly recommend this one, if you love Metroid or a great starting point if you’re new to the series.

You can start with this game if you never played the others in the series second I would play Metroid Fusion then Super Metroid. This game starts to get difficult especially with the bosses but that's to be expected in a Metroid game. The controls are super tight and accurate and there is a lot of exploring to do if you want to get 100% completion

As a massive Metroid fan, I have been excited to play Dread and it certainly delivers. This one is up there with Prime, Super, and Fusion as an amazing Metroidvania that isn't a remake. While casuals can play it in a linear fashion that is alot like Fusion, fans can sequence break and enjoy a game as wide open as Super. Expertly crafted and a must play.

Super Metroid is my favorite SNES game of all time. They did a great job with new mechanics and it runs buttery smooth. I love the Prime series but 2D Metroid is my preference. After 20 years of waiting they finally released a full 2D Metroid and I'm happy to say that they nailed it!

    A true return to form

There is a very good reason that this game was nominated for several awards this year. The world design is excellent, the combat feels responsive and rewarding, and the traversal options that this game gives you compared to previous Metroid games feels so clean. By far one of the greatest highlights of this game also have to be the boss fights and the way that it forces you to utilize every one of your newfound abilities in creative ways to find all the hidden items. It does everything that you would expect a classic Metroid game to do, and will not disappoint long-time fans of the series who are looking for a true return to form. The only criticism I have with the game would be the soundtrack, which focuses more on an atmospheric minimal style than a catchy or boisterous theme for each area. This is not exactly a bad thing, but it is something that has been brought up by other people who have played it and I agree. Don't let that deter you from playing one of the best Metroid games to date, and by far Nintendo's best release in 2021. Highly recommend.

This is an excellent Metroid game and is a great point for a new fan to learn about the franchise and provides enough solid gameplay and new features entertain fans who have played previous titles. Nintendo created a beautiful 2.5D world for Samus to explore. I absolutely love how well Dread nails the exploration. You need to explore to gain items to progress but you'll retrace your steps at times to progress. The world is alive and changes as you play. Just when the game starts to feel comfortable you're thrown into a boss fight, EMMI encounter or more difficult enemies make sure you remember that Samus is mortal. You will die a lot in this game, but Nintendo rewards diligent and perceptive players who learn from their mistakes. This is must-play for the diehard Metroid fan. It lives up the name of "Metroid 5" in my opinion. Metroid Dread follows up Fusion perfectly and is one of the most enjoyable platformers that I've played in years!

Definitely the best and most challenging Metroid yet. I have played every Metroid, except Prime, because that one didn’t really interest me as much. The new mechanics are a great addition as well, it’s definitely a pleasant surprise when a franchise adds new things to it.

Excellent gameplay & a story that finally moves us past fusion. Minus one star for no glamor shot of Samus out of her powersuit on the credits screen (yes I'm serious LOL).

Awesome game, nothing really bad to say about it. Anyone who enjoys Metroid games, or likes 'metroidvania' games in general will love this. The difficulty was perfect. Almost too hard for casual players potentially, but even then I think everyone will appreciate earning the boss wins, and surviving the tough sections through trial and error. Makes everything feel well earned. If I have to knock anything about the game, I will note that it is more linear as far as metroidvania style games go. By that I mean, the game will gently nudge you towards the next area you should be going. I tend to prefer other games in this genre that emphasize exploration from the start; finding your way to a dead end and then reviewing every inch of the map to discern where you should try going next. But hardly a criticism, it's more of a design choice that the developers went with. Overall, highly recommend

I’ve played a lot of switch games over the past few years and my library is largely composed of first party titles, as the Nintendo titles tend to always be near the top of the list for quality and game play. Out of all the Switch games I own, I would say this an Odyssey are my favorite games so far. They’re just a pleasure to play and really help showcase all the reasons people love Nintendo games. The game itself is a return to everything that made Metroid what it is today and it’s truly a privilege to have another great 2D Metroid adventure to play for the next 25 years. If you’ve never played Metroid, this will likely make you want to play the original and Super Metroid when you’re done with this. Also, this is the first switch title that I’ve thrown in the console, where there was no day one patch! You put the game in and 5 seconds later you’re in the game. If you own a switch, definitely buy this game! If you don’t, then this is certainly a title worth considering the purchase of a switch to play.

Excellent game with great bosses and slick graphics. Easily the best platform shooter controls ever. Returns to true arcade exploration by removing the handholding and letting you figure how to make your way through the world.

This is a great addition to the Metroid line, with some nice additions to gameplay mechanics, great map design, fun combat, and even a competent story. Boss battles are rewarding without being 'Souls' hard. I will say that I've never found any of the previous Metroid games to be especially difficult, so the difficulty spike here was unexpected. No ducking into a corner and burning down the bosses here. Each boss has multiple phases with patterns that increase in complexity as you progress. Mistakes can be punishing, especially with the EMMI who insta-kill you. Even standard enemies do heavy damage to the upgraded suit. Later bosses can hit for 200 damage. It is all doable though so keep at it, and this one will take you for a good ride.

This game is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. A bit hard at times because you have to go back and forth through multiple planets to move to the next part of the game so I wouldn’t suggest this game for a child.
