Fun Switch 2 shooter and Metroid Series entry
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't beat the game yet but I am having fun with it so far. It's my first real experience with one of the Prime series of Metroid games and its entertaining so far. I can't give it 5 stars since the story and gameplay are fun but nothing that blow my mind. The puzzles are pretty basic so nothing that has tripped me up so far. A fair amount of back tracking as powerups are hidden behind later acquired upgrades but I believe this is pretty standard for the series. It does run well in 4k and I haven't noticed any frame drops or control issues so far. I would say any Metroid Prime fans would enjoy the game and would enjoy having it in their collection!

Metriod Prime 4
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The reason why I give this a four star rating is because the graphics on the game is clean and the frame rate is also fast. I also like how you can use one joycon controller for a mouse and it really works well. I enjoy the gameplay and also the story is interesting. But it follows the same formula as Metriod prime 1, 2, and 3 nothing really new besides her psychic powers.

A Waste of Development Time
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some of the best visuals on the Switch, smooth performance and well designed combat that action fans and players new to Metroid will probably enjoy. Those of you looking for a return to form from Prime 1, Echoes or the 2D games should probably avoid wasting your money. While the desert hub isn't quite as bad as many make it out to be, visually, it's very boring, with almost nothing interesting to discover and no real landmarks or points of interest outside of area entrances. Exploration is almost nonexistant, with a majority of rooms in the game being hallways with only one way in or out unless there's a save room, so each area feels like you're going in a straight line to bosses. Enemy variety is surprisngly small, with more and more new enemies just being recolors of earlier ones as you get closer to the end. Lastly, the game's hint system, which cannot be turned off, is one of the most frequent and hand holdy of any Nintendo has had. The game constantly treats you like a child, to the point where it even forces you to look at where the exact same early game room you'll need to revisit is, no fewer than six times throughout the entire game.

Its a good metroid prime game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I came into this game having beaten prime1 and played abit of prime 2 during GC era. For prime 4, i have put in about 3 hours so far and i am enjoying it. Graphic wise, it definitely feels like a prime game. You can feel its an evolution of prime art direction and gameplay. I bought this for sw2 even though i also have sw1 as well. Based on what ive read n seen of videos, sw1 version fares really well since prime 4 is built off sw1 hardware so you wont be missing much if you purchase sw1 version. Prime games i normally play slowly, enjoying the sceneries etc, it is not a fast paced game. Dont go into this game expecting the usual first person shooter like doom etc type of gameplay. Nintendo coined this game as fpa - first person adventure game. If you like previous prime games, you wont be disappointed. Those who are disappointed in this game usually isnt a fan of metroid primes or going into this thinking its a face pace fps game. I read about the bike segments turn off some ppl but to me, its just a way fast traveling. No big deal. Overall, i think this is a good follow up to previous prime games. I hope it does well so we can get a prime5 on sw2 hardware.

Great game, not worth $70
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here's a quick list of pros and cons. Pros: -Great Characters -Stunning visuals, runs great in both 4k60fps while docked and 1080p when not docked. Great job Nintendo! -Gameplay is fast-paced and deep. Cons: -Difficult control scheme. -Baffling story. -Strange combination of large empty maps and too small areas. -Way too much backtracking. For a more in depth review, the game itself is pretty fun but not worth the price tag. I am a huge Metroidvania fan, having played a double digit number over the years, but this was my first foray into a 3d one. I was surprised at how quickly my skills transferred over, which I believe is mostly in part due to how intuitive aiming and the various movement options in Metroid Prime 4 are. Over the first few hours, I found myself both fairly challenged by the game and genuinely impressed at the visuals I was seeing. As of right now, this is easily the best looking Switch 2 game. The side characters, who help guide you and direct the story, are actually pretty fun. They are not particularly deep characters, but they serve as a great source of levity in an otherwise incredibly depressing game, story wise. After about 6 hours through the game though, it started to falter a bit. I was suddenly getting constant reminders during the hub world segments in the desert to head to the next area. It was incredibly infuriating being constantly reminded by "why don't you go do this Samus?" and having the map forcefully shoved in my face. I could tolerate it for a little while longer, and honestly the first trip back to most of the locations was pretty interesting, being able to use new mechanics and such. However multiple areas you have to traverse 3 times. During the first two I made a point to collect as many secrets as I could, so when I came back the third time to each there was nothing beyond the necessary story beat. This would not have been so bad had the control scheme been designed better. I frequently found myself hitting the wrong menu button or equipping the wrong special weapon due to the tiny buttons on the joy cons during tense moments, which is annoying. However, I am also not that good at video games, so your mileage may vary. The worst was the final two hours. Genuinely spoiled the whole experience. Sylux, who is barely present in the main game, decides he does actually want to be the antagonist, and then has the single worst boss fights I've ever played. I would not recommend trying to fight him blind as what you are supposed to do is indecipherable, just use a guide. In addition, without spoiling anything, the story just kinda ends without resolving anything. It felt like I wasted $70 and 10 hours of play time at that point for 2 hours of work. TL;DR: When the game wants to be fun, it's an amazing achievement and really showcases what the Switch 2 can do. The rest of the time, it is unfortunately Metroid Prime 4. Don't buy this game unless you either really like Samus, or it is on sale.

Beautiful game with a bit of a miss on the story
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The visuals in this game are stunning, especially at 4k and 60fps. Samus controls pretty much the same way as in Prime Remastered and controls are pretty customizable if you need to change a button to avoid accidentally going into morph ball like I do. The main complaint is the story. I found it very bland and Sylux just isn’t an engaging antagonist like Dark Samus was (or the metroids, of which you fight none). The ending is also completely out of character for Samus which did knock this game down. The “open world” desert is just that, a desert with nothing intriguing or engaging. I would still recommend this game, but wait until ots on sale.

This is Prime, but needed more.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Welcome back to true 3D Metroid! The gameplay is fun and engaging. The controls work well. The biggest issue is the repetitive Vi-O-La parts of the game, which ends up being a lot. There is very little variety in enemies during the "desert" sequences and they basically filled the area with "collectibles" to exchange for unrequired weapon enhancements. For most of the game, though, I loved being back behind the helmet. The ending kinda sucked, though.

A great game with some glaring flaws
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably the best looking game on either the switch or switch 2, the gameplay is a marked improvement over prime 3. The npcs are not as annoying as some people say and the Moter cycle is very cool. BUT: The desert is boring the human story is full of cliches, the alien story feels like it doesn't matter, and the villian story seems incidental to everything else. Thr ending was just bad. Thst doesn't make the game bad, but it is a missed opportunity If you liked metroid prime 3 this is better, but as a story it's definefly worse than 1 and 2

A mixed bag for sure
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Visually beautiful. Just some incredibly jaw dropping vistas and sequences. Wonderful sound! And the gameplay is some of the smoothest you’ll find in an FPS. On the negative…it’s not wha you would expect from a “Metroid” game. The 3 previous Prime games are masterpieces. This one will be forgotten. Way too much hand-holding. NPCs that chatter the entire game and tell you exactly what to do, leaving no sense of wonder or exploration (or even thinking) up to the player. Very little variety in enemies though there are a few great boss battles. Good game? Yes. Good “Metroid Game”? Debatable Did I have fun playing through it. Yes.

Great Starter Metroid game.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Game looks beautiful, plays really well. Powerups are fun but unlike many other Metroid games there doesn't seem to be a point to use your powerups anywhere other than very obvious locations and I don't remember there even being an enemy that was immune to weapons of any types. If its your first time playing a Metroid game it's a great start. For veteran players it's an alright game. I know I bought the Switch 2 version of this game but the price is too steep for what I got from it. Finished it in about 14 hours 100%.

Great game
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Quick heads-up: there isn’t a confirmed game called that—people are probably referring to Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Great game. The graphics look amazing, gameplay feels smooth, and the exploration is super immersive. If you’re into sci-fi and action, this one’s definitely worth playing.

Excellent game! Just what I expected!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The visuals are awesome. It has great graphics and the music is eerie and intriguing. The action is fast paced and fun, levels have a great unique field to them and it’s just the right balance of challenge and progression. I enjoyed the game very much. I’m still working my way through it. I’m about 80% done. Another great thing about this game is that it calls us value versus games from other consoles because it’s only on Nintendo so if you purchase it the rest assured after you finish it if you plan to sell it, you will get a lot of your money back. This is a great buy. I hope to see them make more Metroid games.

Underrated gem
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great game. I think it's really underrated. It's got the perfect amount of action and exploration balance, and the mouse mode on Switch 2 controls like a dream. The desert overworld is a little bland, but I didn't find it so bad that it ruined the game. I highly recommend it.

||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Metroid, so take this review with that in mind. I really like it. Found the gameplay very good and the world interesting to explore. While I know Metroid fans have mixed thoughts on this installment, I really like it

Not bad, but not great
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Prime 4 plays fine but is unfortunately hindered by an unnecessary and empty-feeling desert hub that connects all the duneon-like areas. The lack of connectivity between the areas feels a bit bad but the overall exploration of those regions is generally fun and atmospheric in isolation. This game feels like a GameCube/ps2-era action-adventute game. But not entirely like a Metroid Prime game. It is worth picking up on sale.

Great Addition to my Switch 2 Library
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the Metroid Prime series and 4 is a great addition. The only downside of 4 is the new motorcycle mechanic. It is just boring and doesn't feel good to drive or fight with. Everything else is great. The game looks great on the Switch 2 and plays just like a Metroid Prime game should. It is also on the cart and not a game key card.
