Everything is on full aggro so you have to stop and use the counter mechanic every half second... It lost all its charm cause you used it too often. Exploration is disappointing in that there's too much boring dead space and monotonous ball maze detour puzzles. There's also unnecessary segmented abilities that takes you out of your control comfort that get scattered usage but ultimately feels very lame and uninspired. The only redeeming thing about this game is that it allowed you to free aim, which adds a neat layer, but it never gets utilization on puzzling. Overall mediocre experience, the design and setting is pretty disappointing. Reused tracks for lava area was also a dumb lazy move.

I enjoyed this game a lot, because of its new mechanics, however, I hated the handholding. Too much help and linearity. I wish it was more like the original games.

I give it a VERY strong 3/5. It may not be the best Metroid game but that's not really saying much because the other Metroid games are so incredible. I'd say out of every Metroid this would be he 5th best one.

This game plays like the original Metroid games, but the graphics being 3D on a 2D plane does not work well, and everything looks very bland.

As with the original Metroid that I played as a kid on the Original Nintendo NES system, this one is quite boring. It lost my kid's attention quickly.

It's a little better than Castlevania: Mirror of Fate, but the poor controls and repetitive level design make this a game to be avoided.

Never played the originals so I don’t have the nostalgia for it. Was rough on the 3ds, hard to figure out, and not that interesting.

Incredible game--among the best in the series

Believe the hype, because Samus truly is back and boy is it a glorious return to form for the bounty hunter extraordinaire. This is easily one of the best in the series history and, in fact, if I had to rank it among the other 2D entries in the series, I'd say it's right up there along side the legendary Super Metroid. Super is possibly my favorite game of all time, so that's saying something. While playing through this game, it was obvious that MercurySteam and the big N put so much love and care into this title. They really captured the feel of a Metroid game, and it shows in all facets of the experience. From the stellar score, to the fresh and exciting gameplay, it all coalesces to form a game that not only meets, but in my opinion, exceeds the standards set by the "Metroidvania" genre it helped create. There's a good reason why many games seek to emulate this franchises' style and gameplay, and this game is proof that the grandfather of them all still has what it takes to reign supreme. There's a certain something about this series, a certain polish if you will, that lends itself well to it being the epitome of it's namesake genre. I urge anyone who has even an ounce of interest in action-adventure platformers to give this a try--you won't be disappointed.

This is really my first Metroid title that I played myself and it did not disappoint. I knew of Samus from Smash and of course watching Let's Plays of Super Metroid and the Prime series, but I was not ready to experience it myself! There is a learning curve, certainly, but Samus' powerups are somewhat fluid, though that takes some getting used to as well. The boss fights are fun, if not repetitive, and the final battle was an all out brawl! They did a great job with this remake and I can't wait to see what lies in store for Samus Aran in the future!

    Best 3D Visuals Yet

“Samus Returns” is everything a side-scroller should be. This was a great move by Nintendo, and one of the best games that’s been released on the 3DS family of systems. There is a decent challenge level to it, and I imagine it will have replay value once I beat it. As a sidenote, this game is also the very best use of 3D I’ve seen on the 3DS. I’ve literally not found a single other game besides Majora’s Mask that the 3D was a worthwhile investment in. You won’t go wrong with this game. What a nice love letter by Nintendo for its fans.
