I love Metroid games. This one has streamlined a lot of things in a very good way and the parry mode and other powers really mix things up. However, the progression, pace, and vibes are very subpar for Metroid. Getting the Varia suit is normally a big deal, like something after a major boss fight. Not here... it's just... in a room. Still, it's a new 2D Metroid, enjoy it. Yes I played AM2R - it's fantastic but these games play vastly different from each other.

Among the best Metroid games ever! Terrific to see Nintendo finally go back to the franchise's 2D roots for a game that'll keep you glued to your DS for hours on end. Top notch graphics/sound for the console too. Hope there'll be more installments like this in the near future!

The Metroid game we all have been waiting years for. A beautiful game full of excitement and it own sass on difficulty. Once I started the game I didn’t want to put it down. Such a great retro feel to the game. If you enjoyed Super Metroid this game is definitely for you!!

Finally we get a real Metroid game! Metroid Samus Returns is a remake of Metroid 2 which only appeared on the game boy. The remake is awesome and plays fantastic. The remake expands and makes the game better in alot of ways by adding more to explore and making it less linear than the original game. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the new melee attack. Enemies will often flash signaling that they are going to rush you and you can counter them with a melee. Usually if successful you will kill the enemy (if its not a boss) with one shot of your beam after a counter. I feel this really changes how the game is played and I didn't like it as much. Some of you might like the melee counter alot, but for me it didn't click. However, it isn't enough to bring the game down since the game is still fun.

Metroid has a fairly impeccable record in terms of quality (minus one or two minor bumps), and Samus Returns, a remake of the sequel released for the original Game Boy, is no exception. The exploration, gunplay mechanics/upgrades, and eerie atmospheric score are all present. The game rewards remembering secrets and inquisitiveness. A ton of fun overall. If I have one complaint, it’s that not all of the bosses are entirely up to snuff compared to some of the earlier titles in the series, but there are still some awesome moments.

Been waiting for a triumphant return to the old school Metroid for years and this does not disappoint! At first, i wasn't into the game, which I was down about, but as I progressed, learning the rules that this game established, i found myself in a flow that felt natural and that reminded me of previous games. I've now played through it three different times, once for each difficulty, and am now setting off for a fourth time through.

Metroid zero mission is one of my favorite Metroid games - what that game did for the original Metroid, this one does for Return of Samus. Just nostalgic enough to feel like the same game, but updated enough to have new and exciting gameplay.

If you own a 3DS you must add Metroid:Samus Returns to your game library. It's arguably the best game on 3DS. A+

The game looks a little muddy to me, but I blame that on the 3DS hardware. The main thing is that it plays perfectly, control-wise. This game is great, and this is coming from someone that has never played the original Gameboy version.

While everyone is eagerly anticipating the release of Metroid Prime 4 on the Nintendo Switch, this is a fantastic way to get excited for that game in the way of a re-imagining of Metroid II:Return of Samus. The implementation of a melee move might sound like a turn-off for a traditional shooter, but it works great and actually becomes fun to use, although admittedly gets a bit repetitive.

Though I would rather have sprites instead of 2.5D I am not going to complain when we get a new side scrolling Metroid game. This is a remake of Metroid 2. If you are a fan of the series or Metrovania games pick this up ASAP.

The graphics and gameplay get an A+. I’ve played every Metroid side scroller and Metroid Prime on the cube. This game was done extremely well relative to the others. There are customized bosses that are pretty fun beating.

This is an amazing game for the 3ds. The game is a glorious return for Samus to the handheld. The game is both challenging and fun. The boss battles in this game are a lot of fun. This game would be better on the Switch.

I️ am really loving this remaster of a classic. They have done it right!

I liked the Prime series, but I really love the 2D, so this is great fun. Plus I wanted to support them making more 2D games like this in the future, so I decided to purchase this, and have loved every minute of it.

If you are a fan of Metroid games, there should be no hesitation to buy this game! Even people new to Metroid have a lot to look forward to. The added new feature of melee counter and 360 degree shooting allow for interesting and fun gameplay which gives a different and fresh experience while not straying too far from its roots. The 3D is really nice in this game and that is coming from someone who does not use the feature too often. It just makes that background pop. All in all would recommend.

This is a remake of the Gameboy Metroid II and aside from the expected graphics upgrade for the Nintendo 3DS, there are also lots of tweaks to the gameplay mechanics. The original was a decent enough game but this one turns out to be the best of the HANDHELD 2D games, and just behind the SNES classic Super Metroid. The game also looks gorgeous and has great sound effects and music. Here's hoping they use this engine to make another original handheld Metroid game.

Metroid Samus Returns is an excellent entry point into the series for those new to the franchise and offers a lot of changes from the older games to make it all the better in some cases. While it is definitely more linear than any prior Metroid game (barring Metroid Fusion) it still delivers an excellent experience that feels well paced on the first play through. I recommend it to all people who have an interest in the series or have played any of the other 2-D Metroids. Worth the time.

Metroid is a game that defined a generation of games. This re-imagining/rehashing is no departure from the successful formula that has be copied 100s of times. This is a great game for fans of the series.

Reminds me of the old Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion love this game then again I love all Metroid games. Great for anyone into shooters and puzzles and of course Metroid fans. It does not disappoint.
