While I did not play the original Metroid 2, this is a remake of it with improvements such as those from Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. It does add a new melee counter move which is different than previous games. It is a great mix of exploration and combat. Highly recommended if you love Metroid games.

Great game. If you liked super metroid for SNES then this is right up your ally. Many of the same great things you loved from the past game and more with a bigger map, more game play, and special features.

Let me start off by saying that I've always been fond of the "Metroid" series. I own the original on my NES, have all of the entries in the Prime series, downloaded Super Metroid on the Virtual Console years back... and they're some of the best games ever made. But there was always something about them- they seemed like "chore" to accomplish. Not so with Samus Returns! The pacing of the game keeps you engaged as you hunt down Metroids. The puzzles elements of the game are challenging, but not in such a way where you want to walk away from the game. I beat the game in 21 hours with 100% completion - I couldn't put it down! Try to beat it in 20 hours or less for the best ending. Visually, the game is graphically impressive, and the 3D depth effect gives everything a nice pop as you explore the caverns in the game. The soundtrack and sound effects are impressive - listen with decent headphones for the full experience. Another solid 3DS title - scoop it up if you can!

A friend of mine had this game and let me borrow it . I was hooked. I had to buy one for myself.

This game is a must buy for any Metroid fan! Gameplay is a blast and the graphics look incredible!

Metroid: Samus Returns is a solid remake of the 1991 Gameboy title Metroid II: Return of Samus and corrects nearly all of the shortcomings of the original but loses something in the process. With the shift to 2.5D, a focus on melee combat early in the game and having been co developed with Mercurysteam, the game lacks a certain Metroid design and polish fans have come to expect. This by no means means the game is bad and it's great that the game exists at all but it's something I feel that's important to know before going in. Some long time fans might be over critical and over look the more praise worthy aspects of the game. If you own a 3DS or love Metroid, do yourself a favor and get this game.

I played this game on Gameboy in the 90s. It is a great remake of a great game and great series.

One of the best final 3DS games! Any fan of classic Samus games will love this. Great exploration with some different mechanics and game play. Highly recommending if you enjoy Metroid and/or Super Metroid.

Awesome game with good replay value. Some of the best 3d on the system, I never turned it off.

Good game to play on the 3ds. Graphics are not the best that the 3ds could deliver, but they are good. Also it gets a little repetitive, but if you like grinding and metroid you will love it.
